Munchkin Noob question. Are the themed games completely separate? Can I play if I only have one of those? I tried to find the original on eBay, but it's expensive for a card game.

It's all the same basic concept, but all base games are playable on their own.
Or you can mix and match.

I have Munchkin Bites! And that's a stand alone game that also works with Vanilla Munchkin.

Good to know. Thanks guys. I'll be buying one today and hopefully actually understabnd the game before this starts. My group has been looking for a new game to play every week since our one player (who for some ungodly reason doesn't like clix) came back.

It's really simple: All you need to do is kill everything in your way (including other players, if you get the chance), and then take whatever valuables they have.
Keep in mind that the standard Steve Jackson rule for creating a 'variety' game is to add one new mechanic... so there's always something in every edition of Munchkin that is unique to that game. It also means the earliest games are the least complicated...
