A good list overall. I'm wondering now if vet Cyclops from IC/Universe will make the RCE list rather than this one. Running shot (admittedly low movement, though), 10 range, RCE, X-team. . .
Too bad my favorite running shot piece did not make the list: Crisis Green Lantern. Running shot benfits greatly from both willpower and having perplex available (to bump that range, speed, damage or AV) and he has both. Plus he can carry multiple enhancers to up that damage.
There are so many great RS pieces to choose from that I understand that there would be omissions-- but that's my favorite one.
I think stressing the advantages of combinations with either Ultimates/Superman Ally or Psychic Blast deserve mention as well. The ability to crack either stealth or damage reducers doubles (or more) the value of a running shot figure.
I have always been a fan of REV Blizzard for his Running Shot Pulsewave combo, but I understand your conundrum... does the RS make his Pulse Wave better, or does Pulsewave make his Running Shot better (the same problem for Emerald Empress).
Blizzard is indeed a great figure... but I don't know that you've hit on the reason why...
This figure certainly has other things going for him, but it's the opening Running Shot (10 range, ) that defines his use in most teams.
Hawkeye may make the RCE article...
Captain America is indeed defined by that special power, but without the Running Shot, he'd be easy to deal with; I'd argue that without Running Shot, he'd be about as well liked as HoT Daredevil.
It's so hard to choose what power to list a good figure under. For example, AW Magneto has just 1 click of Running Shot; at almost 200 points, can I really call him 'the Best of Running Shot'?
These lists never claim to be comprehensive. Nor do they claim to contain all the best figures in the game. Some figs (like Veteran Kang) are good due to a great combination of powers, and there's no one power that definitely deserves the credit for that.
IMO, he shouldn't be in the RCE article, only because it is VERY rare for him to use his RCE....it doesn't work with the Running Shot, , or the transporter move+attack...and it isn't as if he's going to be assigned Trick Shot when Thunderbolts is available.
There have been many local players over the years that have serious man-love for that figure, and I've never seen them use the RCE. Often there is Thunderbolts (opting for Ultimates, if facing ANY stealth), but the figure is strictly running-shot, with an occasional use of Transporter M+A if slightly longer range is needed to destroy an object closer to the opponent's starting area.
Fine. It's just every time you click on one of these threads, its just loads and loads of posts saying "x[i] is great too" with i ranging from 1 to n, where n is a really large number.
ABF, that may be true, but you should also note that while most (including myself) whine about a certain favorite figure isn't in an article, those same users also usually mention how it is a nice article/well-written/and that we appreciate the time and effort put into such articles. Additionally, sometimes it is nice to see somebody say, "hey what about this fig?" because you may not have known about that figure or realized that there was a certain strategy to playing certain figures. People like myself, don't necessarily get a lot of play-time in, and these articles AND comments help me to weed out which figs I should/shouldn't play when I go to events like Wizard World or WonderCon.
Black Queen- If anything a Psy Blast candidate, but even at that, she's been outdated.
Emerald Empress- With the existence of Nova Blast, you still think of her as a Running Shot figure?!
Deathbird- Love that fig, but hard to say she's the 'best' at anything she does; lack of synergy and low damage output compared to others on the list hurts her.
Because they're not good...
Which is why I was wondering if BQ & EE would fall under this or the other powers. Empress really wouldn't be as good if it weren't for the RS.
Deathbird should prolly just be in an article of who just excells even though their powers don't mesh. Even today she can hold her own and still make folks unsure how to deal with her.
Annihilus does have the opening 10 range and 3 Dam with an 11AV, his LE sports PW and both have the WC to help them with either Stealth or whatever else you may want to build around. The new one sports PB with 4 Dam.
Don't ask me why I had thought Ultron had RS...
WizKids GamePlay, "You can only play our game if you buy the new stuff. Those old figures are dirty and obsolete."
Record vs VGA d1sc1pL3: W-3 L-0
I'm glad you mentioned Blackfire (one of my favorite all time favorites, though I do prefer the exp version as she is significantly cheaper).... however, how did you not mention Gladiator!? 10 Range, 4 damage (with RCE so you can slap Trick Shot on him and hide him behind LE Red Hood).... oh, and 14 MOVEMENT RUNNING SHOT!!! Come on.

A solid argument; if Hawkeye were to appear, it should have been here.
Thanks for mentioning him; the after-article discussions are where there's room for many more figs to get their props. In the article itself, there's limited space. I'll stand by my exclusion, but only barely.

No, because that would be like saying I'm the ultimate authority on the matter; I don't want that kind of pressure!
I thought about Gladiator, and he even had 2 clicks of Running Shot instead of Silver Surfer's 1, but at the end of the day 210 points is too much with too little Running Shot on it, as well as the fact that, while he has extraordinary reach, he's not likely to live past a second use of Running Shot. He's not the sort of fig you recommend to someone who wants to feel Running Shot at its fullest.
