What if the search portion of the team builder/gallery app was visually setup something like a dial generator. You would fill out the information just like a dial generator. Instead of generating bbCode, it would generate search results based on the information you filled in. Blank fields and fields with an asterisk (*) would allow any information to be in those slots for your results. It would also give you more control over the results. You wouldn't have to search for a power on the first click or just the same click. You specify which click the power would need to be on to be included in your results.

That might be a little complex. A simpler thought:
4 boxes (L-shaped like the dial).
You can choose a power for each &/or enter a value.
You can also choose a combat symbol (,, etc).
Box for range & # of targets.
A drop-down for keyword.
A drop-down for TA.
Field for point cost with a drop-down for >,=,<
Search button at the bottom.
Very simple. Maybe a toggle for Modern/Golden age.

I was going to ask what people thought the essential search criteria would be and what would be considered extra (compared to the Units section search panel). Is that all that would be considered essential?

There are PDF viewers for Android phones. You could download the PAC PDF to your phone and view it with one of those. I could make something a little more dynamic, allowing easier selection and viewing of powers and abilities.
BTW, I am a completely official iPhone developer. The problem is, even if I were to create an app, I would be wary of putting a HeroClix app on iTunes without WizKids'/NECA's permission. I was (very briefly) in talks with Justin Ziran (initiated by him) about a possible app, but he stopped responding to me after a while.
I'll be starting my new job soon, and may have more time to mess with this on just in case basis, though . . .
Ok. I drew up a VERY rough outline of the idea. Normally when I do app development I have someone in the art department do all the work from my hand-drawn sketches
I figure there could be a menu setting for CLEAR and one to toggle Golden/Modern.
The search results would be a list (sortable?). Click the name for full dial.
Each dial would have an "add to team" button.
If someone is any good at programming, I'll gladly code database info for the figures if I'm given a template. I'd hope there could be a way to code one database for both the Android and iPhone (or at least a way to easily convert).

That's pretty much what I had pictured in my head from your initial description of it.

I'm versed in programming as is Sucrebo. I believe a database is already in the works which should be accessible using SQL. I know the Android has API to access SQL databases and I'm pretty sure Apple does, too. It would be dumb for them not to have that.
For advanced search options, I would look at the advanced search options under the unit section here. I also can commit some time to pushing data into a database manually so we can have all the sets possible in this.
Oh, and this idea sounds AMAZING. Let me know how I can help.
And here's the word being put out. Anyone who is willing and able to enter game element information into a database, please let me know. I'll get you setup to do it.
Tollas and I are currently the only two working on compiling the information. Still looking for more help. The faster this information is pulled together, the sooner I can get applications out that use it.

It's also possible that you'd need to get licensing/permission from Marvel, DC, and the Indy shops too. It can get kind of complicated.
