I think it will be a new dial icon like the are. I was agreeing with the double incap or the stunning blow feature, but if it is a new dial icon (like I think it will be) then the most logical thing for me would be the built in L/C.
You have: -which is now Willpower
- Flurry light
-which are now
HSS light.
So, I see no reason why theuy wouldn't add a new SPEED icon to symbolize auto L/C to provide for RS and Charge. It is effective, but not overpowering.
Also, just because it is called "Web Shooting Mechanic" it does not mean that it will be Spider-Man only, but perhaps the set in which it was first introduced.
No rest until the great works of Anthony Edward Stark are in clix forms
Soon...his works will be realized... in 2013 the Hall of Armor in clix!
This power is non optional roll a dice, on a 1-6 get ready for the big surprise.
immediately deal all spider-men on the board 1 unavoidable damage. insert character Mephisto from Secret Invasion unit #55 onto the board, decide amongst yourselfs where the heck he shoudl go. all characters named aunt may can immediately use regeneration as a free action. all characters fully or partially named mary jane with 0 or 1 action tokens take an action token, pushing damage is not applied. smoke a blunt if you've got one. everybody do a round of shots and play darts with jeph lobe's face as the dart board. then throw your dice in the toilet

Every once in a while LOL is actually appropriate, this post is one of those times.

First of all, I think it might be a new attack symbol with a little web, a la Sharpshooter. The attack type would indicate that the character always has Incapacitate in the same way Indomitable indicates that the character always has Willpower. Maybe there will be a Stunning Blow element, maybe not.
My second guess is that it will be a special power that will appear on a few characters that will work similarly to Smoke Cloud, but it will place web tokens instead of smoke tokens. Web tokens would not leave the battlefield unless destroyed by an attack, and they would count as hindering terrain.

I could see either one of these, but I tend to think the first one is a little more likely than the second one.
I guess I am still trying to figure out the win on the Webshooter mechanic. What effect is there that is so special about webshooters? I'm trying to figure out how webshooters are used in the comics and what that would bring to clix game. Here's what I think...
1. Webshooters are for dramatic effect. Spider-man doesn't know exactly how much webbing he has left and it provides tension and plot points.
2. Webshooters are for "technical solutions". When they need a "sciency" solution, Webshooters are a good mechanic to use. Parker dumps some chemicals in the webbing mix and is able to use it on the bad guy.
3. Webshooters are for transportation.
4. Webshooters are for capturing opponents.
I can see webshooters getting a SP or a Trait, but on this list, I just don't see a new "mechanic." What am I missing here?

Agreed. Right now my money's on the first one.

It's the wording "mechanic" that's causing such speculation. If they had just said that web shooters would be featured in the set I think most people would assume that to mean that several characters would be getting the Iron Spider's special power. Since it was specified that this will be a mechanic it suggests that we will be seeing something at least a little bit new.

not sure if someone's already guessed this but what if it's an effect that places a token on figure that requires them to escape the webbing before they can be assigned an action, including free actions, it's hard to do much of anything with webbing in your eye's or when your bound.

I see it like it was in the video games, where they can drag someone to them...so it would be like
target someone within X (probably 6) squares from you, and move them based to you...make a close combat attack as a free action *insert some penalty to attack or damage here*
After reading some follow-up, I'm leaning towards what I mentioned earlier...

(2) Spider-Man has incapacitate, he may use it normally OR may make a ranged attack on any opposing figure he has line of sight to. If the attack is succeeds, give the opposing figure an action token and place them adjacent to Spider-man.
I'm guessing this mechanic would have to be ubiquitous enough for differing characters to use it, probably not all exactly an arachnids either.
I could see this "web" mechanic symbol replace the standard damage symbol on spider-man based figures (Kaine, Venom, Scarlet Spider, Spider-man, Spider-girl, etc) but also on non-spider figures who may have similar capabilities like...
Medusa (hair - inhumans)
Dr. Octopus (tentacles)
Whiplash
Mr. Fantastic (?)
I'm sure there are quite a few more that would fit the bill, but it's late and I'm tired...

Dream BIG, but keep the small dreams around just in case...
I still think it will add a randomness as to whether or not Spider-Man can use ranged combat attacks. If I were designing it, every time Spider-Man wanted to conduct a ranged combat attack, he would have to roll a D6. If he rolls under the number he needs, he can make the attack; if he rolls over, he is out of web fluid and can't make ranged attacks for the rest of the game. (Or maybe until he takes a power action to change his fluid canisters.) For every ranged combat attack, you put a "Web Shooter" token on his character card and add that to the die roll.
Every other possibility people have mentioned -- Stunning Blow, Iron Spider's Webbing, etc -- is just a special power waiting to happen. You wouldn't need a new mechanic for that.
I don't think it will be a new symbol on his dial, I think it will be a Trait, so they will use the symbol on the dial face.
I like this but want to add more. You are "captured" but remain on the board. You just cannot do anything until:
a) either an opponent attacks you and deals damage
b) a friendly character "frees you"
c) make a power action to preform a free action - roll a 1d6 on the result of 6 you "break free."
This new game mechanic will most likely be triggered off of character names, keywords or TA's would be my guess-this way they can go back and retro fit all the Spider peoples with webshooter.
Or they will just add more errata to the errata list.
