I believe he means that he had the same situation come up once before recently and was told the exact opposite of what was said here. Its why people often like to get official rulings so they know something isnt wrong

Yep so most will leave instructions like this
I will use protected if I will take more than X damage or
I will use protected if it will knock me off of....
Often you give protected to a person who has 3-4 good clicks not just one and in this case it would be lousy. He either takes one damage or he uses protected takes one damage and gets pushed. If Protected was not optional you would not see it nearly as much

Yeah theme pc gives a token to the character using the PC, and I will not use it on Lady Lark's successful attack. Will get my turn up tonight.
