We all seen it coming. As soon as they announced the set we knew it was going to be delayed. Heck, we all know the next set will be delayed. At least this time it's only two weeks instead of a month.
Now all they have to do is announce that the contents of the prize kit have changed yet again. Because we all know that's coming.

In all fairness, can they announce a "change" when they haven't even announced the contents?
Far too much cynicism on the Realms lately and frankly, I don't understand it. We're getting regular previews, Justin continues to share info (presumably as he gets it), and we have a new set that's coming out shortly (just over a month).
I just don't get why folk are so down on this. It's two weeks.

I don't care about the release date changing really, except for the fact that this will absolutely KILL release events and the sealed events most of us venues would run for the first two weeks.
The two weeks before Christmas are notoriously hard weeknight/weekends to get people out to heroclix.... [hope]...maybe the excitement of a new set will overcome that [/hope]

Sets have been delayed by 2 weeks for as long as I remember. Not sure why everyone is so suprised, unless you are just a new player. It's been this way forever, so it should be assumed.
They are a business company... and being consistantly tardy with release dates is VERY bad business. They loose a lot of money by doing this. If they'd over-estimate the release date (say christmas), and come out with an 'earlier than expected release date' (like the 15th) that'd be a great selling point, even though it was later than their aimed goal of the 1st. Now they are simply seen as an unreliable distributor.

This is the most cogent and rationale response I could find to address your allegations and concerns:

- This is an awful way to do business.
These complaints seem to take root in at least one of two problems.
1. Assumptions about a business model without evidence to prove the point.
2. A lack of consideration to the alternative solutions. (AKA Assuming the alternative must be better)
I am not denying that "it shouldn't take this long to ship from China" or "this will hurt retailers", but I would like to see proof of these assertions.
I worked in retail for upwards of three years and have no reason to believe that a two week delay between December 1st and December 15th will result in significant losses. This product is a tough comparison to other Christmas gifts, as it tends to rely on a loyal fanbase who purchase similar amounts of the product upon each release.
I have no experience with docks, how Diamond/Alliance releases miniature products, or overseas shipping. I would love to be enlightened, but I've seen no evidence as to why this form of mass shipping is predictable or quick.
I find the argument that you should not give a release date unless you can stick to it also problematic. The alternatives to giving an optimistic release date (Dec. 1) are to give a pessimistic release date (let's call this Jan. 15) or to give no release date at all until product is in hand (Dec. 15).
Giving a pessimistic release date results in an additional month of waiting for us clixers or moving up the release date once product is shipped. I have some concerns about moving the release date up. (i.e. Could stores afford for this to happen? Are there unknowns about D/A ordering that could affect this?) I would like someone who runs a comic store or who has intimate knowledge of this system to speak to the idea of whether moving up a release date a month ahead of time is viable. I do think that there would be complaints from this resolution too. People may cry fowl that there is too little time between releases and that the unexpected shift forward will not allow them to buy on the release date. So a pessimistic release date results in either a longer wait for clix or similar complaints. This is an obviously better solution, but I won't entirely discount it without some inside information. (clix pun)
The idea of not giving a release date until product can assuredly be in hand seems like a ludicrous suggestion though. Stores order from the Diamond/Alliance catalog months in advance and to solicit orders with approximately six weeks left before release could be very tricky. Allotment between stores would be determined with very little time before release and stores would have to return order very quickly. Once again, I would love to hear an insider's perspective, but this appears to be a highly problematic solution.
I must take issue with the assertion that this is evidence that Wizkids is a "bad business" as well. The company has stated that their release dates were based on highly optimistic assumptions, in order to get Heroclix back on its feet and running as quickly as possible. The production of Heroclix is a long process beginning in the United States with the creative process, continuing to China for production, before being shipped overseas and distributed by an ordering/shipping monopoly (Diamond/Alliance). Considering that the dates were best case scenarios, I am personally impressed that Wizkids has gotten product out as quickly as they have.
This is not a complete defense of Wizkids. I have issues that I would like to see addressed as well, including better communication and website management. At the end of the day though, with all necessary components and complications considered, they are doing a remarkably good job in my opinion. If we want to criticize a two week delay, then we must do so with alternatives in hand. The vast majority of arguments posted in this thread show that we are frustrated with the delay, but do nothing to improve upon the current process. It is okay to be frustrated, but do not expect change if you cannot see a viable change to be made. Please take this as a challenge to offer information as to how the system works if you have it and to create solutions based on knowledge of the industry, so that Wizkids may act upon it.
Happy to help!

Ah, but they have announced the contents:

Yah, yah, "subject to possible changes."
So I suppose they'll just claim we were "confused" again.
(Yes, I am still very bitter about the WoS change and when/how it was communicated.)

Really? They lose money because it comes out later? Huh, everyone still buys clix in droves. Seems to me sets are still consistently sell out. Come on man. Nobody gives half a #### about it coming out 2 weeks later. People will come on here and complain, which is what probably 40% of this site is (complaining), and they still buy Heroclix product in mass.
Sorry man, it does not lose them anything. If it upsets you that much, and makes them a poor distributor, then quit playing the game. Yes I know that people need to voice their concerns/complaints, which I am fine with. But they are definitely not losing money because they delay new sets. That's a straight up lie. Is it a complainable offense? Yea it kind of sucks that it's coming out 2 weeks late, but to say they are losing money because of it, ehhhhhhh, nah.

I give 3 quarters of half a pound sign, what does that equal?
I don't understand why so many people are upset about a minor 2 week delay when Wizkids is giving us 2 sets within 3 months of each other, and another set already annouced for the end of first quarter in 2011.

If you think losing two weeks of December availablility on your product doesn't cost money, you have never been involved in selling anything.
