Whats the problem? Street Fighter, Gears of War, Indy, Marvel and DC all exists in comics and video games. Others are actually crossover video games like Marvel vs. Capcom and X-men vs. Street Fighter. I don't think it's odd to see these video game figures (that also exists in comics) along side the comic figures (which also exists in video games).
They made transformers/avengers in the comics and also the marvel/capcom, so seeing them in clix is not really far fetched.
The first HeroClix Gears of War series includes five members of Delta Squad and five of the most dangerous Locust enemies who are attempting to take over the planet Sera.
I don't know why everyone is complaining. Ten figures isn't going to break the game. Gears is actually an awesome game, beat them both co-op with my brother. And to be fair, there was/is a Gears comic. Basically the are a bunch of Frank Castles, CCE, RCE, BCF, energy explosion, toughness, stealth, running shot, and charge. Honestly nothing to freightning, unless they throw in a head shot ability, similar to deadshot's stealth ability. Besides that I am excited.
No video game player is going to start playing HC because of these pieces. It didn't work for Halo and it won't work for SF or GoW either.
For all of those who are about to whine about this set:
Now, both of these statements are just not intellectually sound or honest. There could be a number of reasons why Haloclix didn't sell to people who play Halo. It might be because they had no brand support, tournament scene, and were not compatible with the game that did, though the functions of the two games were nearly the same.
Likewise, you have no real means of determining the success or lack thereof of the coming Street Fighter set. I'm going to laugh at these sorts of posts far more than I already do if, when the set hits stores, it is every bit the success Wizkids hopes it will be. Likewise, if it fails to sell, it does not therefore follow that all possible non-comic sets will fail. All it means is that this one set was a flop, which in turn means little because there have been a number of comic-related sets that were a flop.
If marketed properly, there is definitely a market for this sort of thing.
If you don't like these sets, don't buy them. If you don't like playing against them, then don't play against them. No one is forcing you to do either of these things. You can surrender any game that has these pieces if it really sucks the enjoyment out of the game for you. You can choose to not play in tournaments where these pieces are required. Now, if you're going to say "well then I can't play heroclix and that's not fair", i'm going to respond by telling you that it is fair, because this is, metaphorically speaking, the price of admission. This is what is required to play heroclix. I don't like going on the field against professor X, but I deal with it because it's part of the game and it's, metaphorically, the price of admission to play. To do the things we enjoy we sometimes have to put up with other things that we enjoy less because they undoubtedly either bring joy to others or are required to do the things we enjoy. I like driving, but I hate buying gas. However, I buy gas so that I can drive because the cost of the gas is less significant than the benefits I get from driving. If it were not, I wouldn't drive. This is literally no different.
I say all this not even being a fan of Gears of War. In fact, I hate it, which will only make me relish killing these dudes with X-Factor or the Green Lantern Corps.
Is it only people in Comics? so would archie and veronica be O.K. or are they off limits?
thanks to Indy we've had medieval heroes floating around for ages, and you can throw shining knight in ther for good measure. If yo're into pre Christian Gods we also have Shazam, Hawkman, Hercules, Seth, The Norse pantheon, etc. etc.
You want space operas, how about the starjammers or any of the new gods. Or try Guardians of the alaxy - what's Quill's superpower other than space guns. Heck Rocky raccoon is just an alien too.
If Shang Chi isn't off limits why is Bruce Lee, or Kung Li.
Superhero Comics have incorporated ideas from all walks of the fantastic fiction since their earliest days and certainly since their resurgence in the 60s. If the writers can do it I don't see why the fans shouldn't be allowed to.
Iron River Read my wife's comic or I will say mean things about your dog.
I suckered these guys into playing: Feedback Damage
A person, typically a man, who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities
- a war hero
The chief male character in a book, play, or movie, who is typically identified with good qualities, and with whom the reader is expected to sympathize
(in mythology and folklore) A person of superhuman qualities and often semidivine origin, in particular one of those whose exploits and dealings with the gods were the subject of ancient Greek myths and legends
So in that case all of the Gears Of War characters, Lord of the Rings characters, Street Fighter characters qualify as Heroes.
So get over it, Heroclix is expanding and if you don't like it, don't let the door hit you on your way out.
I am seeing a ton of "this isn't to my personal taste so I must whine," remarks to this. You don't dig this set, then don't buy it. It's not like Neca people beat you up if you don't buy every last product they crank out the door.
There is a HUGE crossover between videogamers and tabletop gamers. I personally am happy with pretty much anything they crank out. I am not big on Gears, so I won't buy the set. However, if I have the time for a game and somebody asks me to play, they could be setting across the board with anything that's compatible and I'd go for it, doesn't matter who it is. I can make my team and they can make theirs. That's how this goes.
GEARS OF WAR GOLDEN RULE Hindered lines of fire to this character are blocked. When this character is given an action that leads to an attack, hindered lines of fire to this character are not blocked until the beginning of your next turn.

TL;DR: QQ, get over it.
QFT. Well said. And for those of you that absolutely hate the idea of Street Fighter, Gears of War, and LOTR sets, I shall make sure to always have a team on hand to play against you. doesn't matter if I would lose big time, just to see the look of disgust on your face would be worth the price of admission.
I like it. Will I buy the Gears of War Clix? Probably not. I assume a lot of the people here won't but I don't think that is the point. Having these is a way to get a Gears fan buying Wizkids/Neca products and maybe they buy other ones too.
I doubt we will see a ton of these in tournaments or something as I am sure a lot of the purists are worried about. I don't like seeing mixed DC/Marvel teams or games but that is just me. I also don't like seeing multiples of a non-generic. Do these things ruin the game for me? Not one bit. It would be easy for COG soldiers to fit into either comic universe as just some merc group. Just like the Street Fighters could be rationed into either universe. To me, these fit better than Superman fighting the Fantastic Four does.

How is low cost and low production run sets like these going to hurt Neca in any way? If they do their research and don't make more than they can reasonably expect to be sold then they can only make money. Wizkids almost always sells out precisely because they don't overextend. Ventures like this, timed with popularity of established licenses, can only increase their market share. Over extending would be releasing one 60 figure Marvel/DC set every single month. No one would be able to afford to keep up, even if they were selective.
