Now, some argue that Jimmy Olson and Perry White shoulda made the set, but I’m glad they didn’t. I’m not sure what they would bring to the game, and I fear they would have been simply a slot stealer in this set, much like MJ was for me in Web of Spider-Man. As Hulk would no doubt agree, who needs these puny humans? Give me heroes over regular folks any day.
7 – Versions of Superman in the set. Four are Chases, two are LE’s, and all of them are entertaining to play. Sure that seems like a lot of the Man of Steel, but I have a tough time thinking about which one I could 86 from the set in favor of a another figure. It’s way easier thinking about giving a Max Lord the boot.
Others have pointed out that the Chases should be 8 due to WL Supes but I think this one is also an 8. We have Superman, Project: Superman, the two LEs and the 4 chases.
Mercy and Hope are the same sculpt as well I believe. Also I think Ursa and Kryptonian Infiltrator have the same sculpt, although Ursa's has fire added.

Hope an Mercy are very similar, as are Starman and Star Boy, but there are differences if you look at their heads. There are also differences between Ursa and the Infiltrator which is why I didn’t include any of them. Is it lame to have them 95% the same? Sure. But it’s not as bad as just a flat out repaint. Also the LE’s are not included in this mix, because that’s usually what we get from LE’s and have since the dawn of the game so that doesn’t bother me. It’s the recycling among the CUR slots that drives me nuts.

Nah, I actually conciously excluded Weapon X as an outlier, since he didn’t fit the mold of chases being four different looks at the main character in the set. He was the only other logical choice for testing that hourglass mechanic, or whatever you want to call it. And for the record, I like Rohjaz. I hadn’t heard about there being 5 chases in Hulk, last I heard was four. And given what we’ve seen lately I’m still banking on four Hulk chases.

So effectively had I blocked Bus Stop Supes from my mind that I also blocked the WL version of him, who is even now staring at me from the shelf…blankly…like he wants me to make him a tiny sandwich or something. Change made, thanks!
I can tell you who still pays attention to the REV system. You don't have to look far. The various Leagues on this site pay strict attention to it. I doubt NECA keeps it just for them, but it is still used by people.

The only thing we use REV for at our venue are the rare occasions we do "all rookie" games or the like. I just wish they'd be a little more accurate with them. We can't honestly say that any of the Doomsdays are rookies considering how old he is, right? That's a nitpick, but you get the point.

Thanks for reading. We’ll give the Hulk set similar treatment in December.
I disagree with respect to Jimmy Olson. Jimmy could give you a lot of things:
1) the signal watch (which could be like AA Captain Gordon's Summon the Bat, except for Superman),
2) all his weird Silver Age transformations (which could have been like Norman Osborn's AE; where you know he can change into something, but you don't know at the outset what it'll be. I would pay cash money for a Turtle Boy or an Elastic Lad clix)
3) Heck, Elastic Lad might have been a fun addition to the Legion of Superheroes (which I know you weren't a fan of, but lots of people are), and
4) Jimmy would add another cheap-ish addition to a set that didn't have a lot of cheap pieces
9 – Number of figures with the Legion of Super Heroes TA. This seems high to me. Mind you, I have been reading LoSH comics for over thirty years and consider myself a fan, but I never have that much fun playing them. I’m not sure why that is. Maybe they just don’t have as many big guns as some of the other teams. Maybe it’s because they don’t have a monstrous grounded brick. I don’t know. But maybe the new Wildfire will change that opinion a bit.
I like LoSH as well but the fact is that the early ones have cookie cutter dials and the fact like all of them fly makes the play experience annoying. If they give an Alternate Team Ability called Flight Rings where characters can switch from to , or to for the turn they will be a much better experience. Wasting all the movement actions just drives me crazy.

Close your eyes and she's another dial for non JSA Spectre. Really, just look at the dial and powers and it works.

Would've liked all 3 of those.

Jimmy Olson could totally have a "Summon the Superman" power like Captain Gordon has for Batman since Jimmy has that cool wrist watch.
Perry White could be like JJJamison who was on 2 of the top 16 teams at Worlds this year.
6 The number of characters i n the set with no damage reduction. Poor Swamp thing, everyone laughs at your amazing 1 damage power (which in a normal game or with armor piecrcing is game breaking)
I really appreciate the LSH figures, but I think I can comment on this:
In my experience, WK designs too many LSH dials with not enough raw damage, especially for the point cost. 70+ points for dials full of 2 damage (and many case of zero range) just do not make for a team that is competitive by itself. The best part of the LSH starter was that the dials in that set didn't have this problem!
Once you start factoring in that they lack deployment synergy (almost 100% fliers that cannot carry each other), you are left with small forces mostly with dials that require a huge amount of finesse and slow play that simply are not as appealing as other options.
I had my doubts about these LSH figures and at first I was really reluctant to field them on a team but I was pleasantly surprised when I did. It was a game for fun, grant it, so time limit was not an issue. I agree that these pieces are a little slow to get into attack position but their symbol makes it so you can retreat easier then with regular foot soldiers. That's what I did. I lured my opponent in with Wildfire and the rest of my team while Mass Eater was smashing down walls with his Free Actions, Invisible Kid was covering him with Stealth and his trait so he wouldn't get shot up. As soon as my Wildfire got to his Pulse wave dials, I retreated with Starman, Supergirl and Projectra into the room Mass Eater created, Wildfire then successfully made 2 pulse wave attacks for a total of 10 damage on 5 figures. He then died of course but did his job. I then proceeded to clean up with Supergirl, using the smaller pieces as tie ups. It was one of the funnest games I've played yet. The tactics these guys can come up with are impressive but they need time to develop.
SUPERGIRL is a POWERHOUSE, I don't know what everyone else is talking about. On my team, LSH members had the ability to copy either Supergirl SA team ability or Starmans JSA ability, adding to their roster of tricks.
great article. love the by the numbers, reminds me of reading wizard mag. look forward to seeing this again. one suggestion to add: total point value if you played one of each in the set. kinda similar to the average point value, and would be largely determined by set size, but it'd be interesting to see.
btw it's 6611 (main set) + 579 (chases) + 697(BiBtB and LEs) for a grand total of 7887 (using the highest point version of all the split dials)

LoSH generally gets 3 (legitimate) knocks when playing a theme team:
1)the TA has nothing to wildcard
2)everyone can fly, so no one can be carried
3)the dials are mostly finesse pieces
in response:
1)un077 Supergirl, cr056 supergirl and 75a026 superboy provide the awesome superman TA while keyworded. however, su041 starman provides the awesome JSA TA from his dualwield that can significantly shift the LoSH game
2)gi003 colossal boy cannot fly. he is, however, a giant, making him equally uncarryable. i always thought that flight rings made more sense for the LoSH TA's inspiration. "This character can use the flight ability" would have been a fantastic way around the carry issue, and comic accurate! however, the LoSH TA was introduced way back during the flight stand days, so i guess that's why they got spidey TA recycled. the earlier mentioned ATA is a great idea
3)yes. this relegates LoSH teams to fanboys and finesse players. i am comfortably both of these :P

What could a Jimmy Olsen figure bring to the game? How about an irresistable target everytime he's on the map? I can't be the only one that wants to knock out Olsen.
Superman II was my introduction to superhero movies as a child. So I am thrilled with Zod/Non/Ursa in this set!
Yep, me too. And the fact that we got all three in the same set is amazing. This sort of thing doesn't happen as much as it should. Though it did work out for Nextwave (who are a ton of fun to play, by the way). Haven't had a chance to try Zod's gang yet, but I'm expecting great things.
