Street Fighter? Awesome.
LotR? Amazing.
Star Trek? Thats just way to far. I can suspend my disbelief pretty far, but having Superman outwit deflector shields, run in and punch the U.S.S. Enterprise is just to far.
My problem is ship/vehicle combat in a game that flat out isn't designed for it. How is Spider-man (90 point Fantastic 4 version) more powerful then a space ship?
Maybe because Star Trek Heroclix is going to be relegated to largely ship vs. ship battles? I know that's how I'm going to roll. And that's one smooth roll and I can't wait for it!

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Tactics should have been it's own game period. The symbols on the dial don't even make sense being applied to star ships. This idea is a complete fail to me, which is really a shame because I like what they did with Expeditions.
What symbol in particular doesn't make sense? A stylized wing for flying movement, a stylized fist for attacking ability, a shield for defense, an explosion for damage? I'm afraid I don't see your point...you can find similar symbols to all of those throughout science fiction literature, including the STU.
I'm in favor of not having to learn new symbols, and the dial layout makes more sense than SFC. I don't know about Expeditions, because I haven't played it. But the idea that the symbols have to change (dropping the intuitiveness of the game for current HC players) to something that you think "looks better" seems weird to me.
I think those who chuckle about Frodo slaying the Enterprise are missing the point that the game uses the same rules, but isn't meant to be mixed with regular Heroclix. Yes, the rules are compatible, and you COULD mix them. So WK is giving us freedom here - a separate game that would theoretically allow you to take the two games home and play out a "Twilight Zone" episode or use these for Micronauts ships in a home Marvel Heroclix scenario. Heck, you might even want to have your venue go crazy and play a "invasion of the little green men" tournament once in a blue moon. It's a separate game though.
I'm all over this, like white on rice. I'll be collecting some when they hit the shelves and trying this game out. I may not agree with all the power applications, but from what I see here, this looks like a pretty good start on the simpler STU ship-to-ship miniatures combat game that I've been looking for for awhile now. I love it so far.

That's not even the issue, really. Why the hell does a spaceship use a fist to represent shooting? How are they even able to hit each other while next to each other?
Have Star Trek ships ever used tractor beams to fling space junk at one another?
The whole damn game just doesn't make sense in this shape.
I really think Dark Knight is incapable of creating anything that does not involve 80's/90's pop culture in some way. It evokes both mirth and nostalgia in me.

Arguments over symbols and adjacency border on silly in my view; either you embrace the game or you don't. As elfholme stated, who cares what symbol is on the dial if everyone knows what it represents? HeroClix is well known, so why NOT use its familiar elements to make it easy for new people to get into Tactics?
In Star Trek, lots of battles have taken place at pretty much point-blank range, and that to me feels just fine for adjacent, "close combat" attacks.
Lastly, hasn't Superman (and a lot of other superheroes) fought plenty of spaceships?

I have to give Kaitouace points for hitting the nail on the head.

So here I go adding to Kaitouace's sig again, but he hit the nail on the head. FOOM is very playable.

I still don't see why the fist is a big deal. It's not the first time a fist has been used to represent force of arms in a SF context, and it won't be the last. You *do* realize that the fist symbol often represents ranged attacks in regular Heroclix too, right?
In the STU (and really in most sci-fi space combat), the MOST DEVASTATING ATTACKS happen at close range. Two ships that are adjacent would represent two ships firing at each other with all weapons at close range. The only thing I would like to see is a damage bonus for making an attack like this (all ships should get it). But attacking while adjacent makes perfect sense...you just need to realize they are not punching each other, they are firing at close range.
I don't remember seeing a lot of battles where the ships flung space junk at each other. That one is weird to me.
I think what we're seeing here makes pretty good sense, as long as you aren't purposely taking things too literally (like the fist symbol for the attacks).

This is just ridiculous. Scale, power, everything on these just sucks. There is absolutely no way these should be HC compatible. Theyve reached out beyond their means and I really think this expansion will BOMB.
If the ships are single based teetering around the 100 point mark then the figs will be 3 pt pogs.
Finally, as a completist, I can shed the plastic crack obsession and finally say....pass.

Or simply ram the other ship. Kirk does that a lot (counting the series, movies, comics, and the novels) , asking Scotty to increase the power to the deflectors and jam the Enterprise where the sun don't shine.
I don't really get why people are too vocal of the scale and rules compatibility. Yes, they're not supposed to be the same size as a Mugger. Yes, they shoot torpedoes more powerful than multimegaton nukes but barely dent the Bulleteer. But that's if you actually play them together. Which they're not meant to, but you can and you don't have to make up rules like some people did with Horrorclix. No one's forcing anyone to use these ships into a standard Heroclix game, but you have that option (and look like a moron or act like a douchebag doing it, saying "look, my Ragdoll just tied up the Enterprise by himself!"). This simplifies things, so an experienced clix player can easily grasp how things work. And if a Star Trek tactics player gets interested in heroclix and wants to try it out? No biggie, because the basics are the same.
