Speaking for myself, it's because I see the ships and the crew as being different entities. You say that other vehicle combat games do the same thing. Fine, I have a problem with it being done there as well.
Right. But dials and abilities can be balanced out between the races within the context of the Trek universe; Kirk's dial might not be as strong as a Gorn's, but he should be capable of outmoving and outthinking one.
But yeah, Trek character dials would be greatly underpowered compared to Superhero character dials. Simple solution: Don't build a team of Romulans and expect them to do well against The Justice League.
BUT if they do Trek clix characters I will really like them to be not only compatible with Heroclix, also I will like them to be in "heroclix power level" with others characters on the game compared to Watchmen, DC, Marvel characters etc.
In that way we can have a Star Trek Legion of Super Heroes just like in the comics right now.
The ships look awesome but they have to really think in the power of the ships more than in the powers of the people.
Like the Doctor on the Voyager ship. Yes, the Doctor heal people BUT not ships.
But you can abstract to the Doctor going over to the other ship using the portable holographic projector and healing the crew which makes the ship behave more reliably and effectively because there are more crew at disposal to run it. I'm not even that much of a Trek nerd and I can make this work in my head.
I think a lot of this is that people are not used to abstracting in this way. i get it is a little weird at times, but I think I understand what they are trying to do.

I'm not seeing anything in these previews that is precluding this from happening.

Look, people really should stop with the complaints.
Ha! Good one Squirecam....good one.

They sure do. Not sure why it's being thought otherwise.

Well we can have...... 'I'd prefer Star Wars....'
'Why can't WK just focus on *insert other property here* instead of this?'
'Why would I ever play this ship when I can play 150 pt Superman?...Pass.'
And my personal favorite that comes up from time to time..... 'Straight up ship to ship combat doesn't feel very Star Trek to me.....why can't it be more faithful to the show/movies? Does WK even know what Star Trek is?'
And can only truely be made by people who have not tried ST:Expeditions and/or ST:Fleet Captains. And as an added bit of hilarity the #1 complaint I heard for Expeditions and Fleet Captains.............'why don't they just make them Heroclix'

Agreed on both counts.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say you haven't seen the sculpts that are being used...............there are no 'common quality' or 'rare quality' sculpts here.
There is only one quality.
Of the 24 ships from Fleet Captains (and there were some sister ships in there), which all of these sculpts are from so far, the quality is very high.

It is almost upon us! Are you prepared for the Quarmageddon?
These ships seem fun. I think the USS Reliant (Kahn version) is the first ship without a TA.
Will we get a 50pt ship? How about a 200pt ship?
I am waiting for the "Boarding Crew Phasing SP": Some kind of power that allows for a CC attack from range. Kind of like teleporting a few crew members on board another ship.
Also, will we get the US Enterprise from the most recent movie???
Reading throught this forum, one thing is pretty clear: The Trekkies are happy. They ARE the target audience, so one would hope that they would be. While some people have posted pretty obvious and vaild criticisms (most focusing on whether the dial is a representation of the ship or the ship's crew and why the scale of the ships is all out of proportion), the people who plan to buy this will buy it no matter if it makes any sense to the rest of us or not. I can be happy for them, while taking a pass on these, myself.
Let's Play "Whoizzit?"
My Avatar is an as-yet-un-clixed character. If you know who it is, be the first respondant to correctly identify this character I'll send you some free rep!
They should have had feat cards be used to represent the crew members. They could have flavory effects like:
Scotty: (point value). This ship's movement powers can't be countered. When this ship has zero action tokens it can use regenerate with a minimum result of 1.
Mr. Spock: (point value), requires Federation keyword. Once per turn this ship may use perplex targeting only itself, or enhancement.
Lt. Commander Worf: (point value) requires Federation or Klingon keyword. This ship can use Combat reflexes. When this ship takes damage from an enemy attack, it uses battle fury until the end of its next turn.
or passengers...
Ambassador: (point value). This ship can use shape change if it can't already. (the idea is they negotiate to keep people from attacking)
Q: (point value). This ship can use probability control. After resolving an action in which it uses probability control, roll a D6 that can't be rerolled. On a 5-6 this ship must be given a move action to use Phasing/Teleport as a free action to move up to its speed value. On a 3-4, give this ship an action token. On a 1-2, deal it one unavoidable damage and give it two action tokens that deal no pushing damage.
Boarding Party: when this ship succeeds in hitting another ship with a close combat attack, if Boarding Party is attached to this ship, move it to the hit ship. While attached to an opposing ship, Boarding Party deals one damage at the start of that ships turn.
They could print them out on pogs and include them in the blind boosters and starter set and have them as prizes too. There could even be special powers or rules for stealing/beaming crew or passengers onto other ships. It would go a long way towards making Star Trek clix feel like its own thing.
I like that BUT it can't be too much different of the series because it become non thematic like the other Star Trek game is (how is called).
If you put ANY Captain on ANY ship become no thematic.
Worf can be on many ships, Ambassador Spock sure, why not. But when you put Janeway as the Captain of the Constitution Enterprise things become weird.

I remember a Wiz Kids game called Skies something with Plane and Pilots character figures.
I always wonder how the rules were of that and I imagine it the rules were could it could be apply to the Star Trek Universe to have ship miniatures and Characters miniatures on the same game.
@CarlosMucha: yes, but many can argue it's already not thematic as you can team up Khan and the Enterprise to fight the Voyager if you want. This would at least make things more fun and set it apart from Heroclix while using the same rules.

Fair Point.
(and the Khan ship should be archy enemy of Kirk anyways. )
