It's a Shakespeare reference. "Puck", that is, not "Eugene". That's a town in Oregon.
You know Shakespeare. He's the guy who replaced Len Wein on Swamp Thing. The book went downhill fast after Will left. *
* But that's just another Internet opinion.
A shakespeare reference?? No way.. I ran with the whole Alpha flight being stupid canadian references.. shaman (the native american medicine man), windego...puck and I figured the last went like this..
Hey guys, Canadians like hockey right? Lets name the last guy after a hockey puck and dress him all in black? His power is that he can be hit into people and stuff!
Amazing!
I will have to look into that though, it is just a fairly large coincidence to absolutely no effort
Jubilee is particularly offensive when you emphasise that's she's Chinese, and her mutant power is to create fireworks. Literally such a massive racial stereotype, lol.
Cliff Notes version: while the group was around prior to the character, the group didn't receive national attention until after the character was introduced.
(By the way, if you click the link, please read responsibly. You can literally lose days of your life reading everything that's there...)
You have used a censored word. Please remove this word. <-- Please kiss that word.

You really can't blame characters from the 60s-70s for corny names, more of a product of the time when comics were still, more or less, for children. It's the more modern characters with terrible names that bother me: Anti-Venom (it's such a "see what I did there"?) and Mr. Negative (because he's like backwards colors you guys) come to mind.
It's bad enough when it's at least a relevant word, like Fire or Ice, but even those are incredibly dumb, as was pointed out in an issue of JL(I) shortly after Green Flame and Icemaiden changed their names, as there was a wacky conversation about Fire's fire.
That's bad enough. But when it's just some random word like "Cable", "Gambit", or "Bishop," that seems sooooooooooo dumb that to me it's inconceivable that anybody could like such a poorly named character.
There are exceptions, when the word is a verbal noun ending in -er, such as Punisher or Terminator (okay, that's -or not -er, but same idea). Other one word names are just dumb.
Also, pretty much any name containing any of the following words: death, dead, blood, kill, maim.

Agreed on the one-name bandits that reek of "90's creations." I've noticed with a lot of 90's creators at DC under the nu52, we're getting them again as evidenced in the Teen Titans set: Ridge, Leash, Grymm, etc.

DC? You mean Image, right?
