Between Wacker's (the editor on ASM and the new "cosmic books" at Marvel) comments and the nerfing (temporarily as it may be) of Peter.... I'm just not really the target audience for Marvel anymore.
Well I am going to wait and see. If it plays out the way I fear it will, then Spider-Man loses after all he has fought for over the last 50 years. He simply loses. I hope I am wrong.
On CBR forums, Wacker is constantly belittling people he thinks "whine on the internet" about his comics. It's actually pretty bad. Go onto the ASM threads (any) or the Cosmic Marvel for Loeb/Nova in the main section.

There for everybody to see.
Why do none of those people ever seem to realize that that kind of attitude is the kind of thing that drives away readers?

This is the second time he's given up. The first was One More Day. And it goes completely against the grain of the character.

I'm glad to see other people can't stand what happened in the book. Did it not feel at all like a Spider-Man book to anyone else..? Also not to be a prude but, I can't believe they would have Doc Ock and MJ kiss like that and I would be revolted to see that relationship take off especially when he's using Peter's body and she doesn't know. I'll torrent the books and keep an eye out for the eventual "ret-con" of Peter but I definitely am not going to show any support for this ridiculous story.

About the only way that it could be more ridiculous is if Heaven had offered Peter a red switch, a blue switch, or a green switch.
AND YES I AM STILL ANGRY ABOUT MASS EFFECT 3 AFTER NINE MONTHS. GRARARARARARAR.

Spider-Man has been giving up since 1967. He always comes back, but that doesn't mean he never gives up.
Well, amended: gives up to the point of no return. Selling your marriage to the Devil, then basically giving up again and letting Doc Ock win and keep his body?!?
Pretty sure Spidey No More didn't have the webhead die. Though it's been a little while since I followed the story.

Giving up and letting Doc Ock win is simplifying the issue, in my opinion. When Peter comes back, which we know he will, it'll prove he never really gave up. Though selling his marriage to Mephisto...yeah....that was really giving up there....
I run HeroClix tournaments at Shuffle and Cut in La Habra, California. The format of each tournament will be posted here.
Well, I opted to actually read the issue before passing judgement on it. Even managed to stay away from spoilers, though that didn't stop a nasty feeling in my stomach from welling up as the ending approached.
I enjoyed the previous two issues quite a bit, and I was hoping for some kind of turn in the finale, but sadly that never came. It basically ended with a mostly pointless struggle where the conflict isn't resolved and the situation from a few issues ago is just cemented. You could almost skip the last two issues and be right where 698 ended.
But structural qualms aside, I think what makes me less interested in Superior Spider-Man is I just don't want to read a comic with Doc Ock every month. He's my favourite Spider-Man villain by far, but even in Peter's body, he's a character I can only take so much of. And if the twist is making him more like Peter Parker, I don't see the point in switching them at all. It almost seems like a cheat to give us a Peter who will be more violent without actually changing the character himself.
As for the future of the character, I'm sure it'll be undone at some point and things will move on, although I'm slightly amused at how angry people still are about various storylines. The real reason I won't be buying Superior is because #700 was $7.99! Comics are getting too damn expensive nowadays.

You're right. I tend to not remember one more day because it was comics blasphemy. This issue was as well. I have zero interest in the superior spider-man. In no way is a villain superior to Peter Parker.
Not to mention the gigantic ick factor with MJ. I mean doc ock did it with aunt may. This whole thing is a nightmare on every street.
