Question about PR: Is it as loud as Man o' Steel? Or maybe the right question: is it beyond what an 8-year old might be able to handle? He gets uncomfortable when things get super-loud, but I do think he'd like giant robot fighting as all little boys should.

May vary from cinema to cinema.
I would say its one of the louder movies I've seen, but I did see it in ETX Doulby Atmos.
I was able to see Pacific Rim a few months back at a test screening, and loved it then. Saw it again last nigh, finished and in 3D, and it was just as good as the first time around.
I'm not usually one to go for 3D, but this is a rare occasion where it's pretty much a must see in 3D. A very fun summer blockbuster.
I'm embarrassed to say I avoided The Lone Ranger because of bad press. Generally that never happens. I stewed all weekend because I love the serials as a kid. It got me into comics in the first place. I just took my wife and kiddos and we all loved it. Super fun. We didn't go expecting Oscar worth performances or to see a film that would change our lives so we were all pleased!!! I would recommend it on the big screen if you are going to see it anyway...
Went and saw it with my kids tonight, and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. Johnny Depp was way better than I expected, and the overall movie was way better than I expected (though my expectations were pretty low TBH )

Frankly, I'm wondering what *did* get cut and how much? This was the kind of movie where the DVD is probably going to be packed with them just ad-libbing stuff.
Anyways, I just got done watching A Good Day to Die Hard.
####ing awful. The worst of the series and after Live Free and Die Hard, that is saying something.
I think I might have said this in the old thread regarding Die Hard movies, but it bears repeating.
The DH movies are only as good as their leading villain. Alan Rickman, Jeremy Irons, even William Sadler are lightyears beyond Timothy Olyphant and vaguely Russian-looking generic actor #5.

I think Olyphant is a fine actor, but I agree he doesn't play menacing very well.
Should have gotten Oldman to play the Russian villain...haven't seen the new one, but would have if he were playing him. Just cast British character actors as McClain villains.

See, Oly oly oly (oyoyoy!) would be a fine "James Spader" type of villain. I.e. weasely, sneaky, underhanded... he's not a criminal/terrorist mastermind by any means.

Saw Pacific Rim this morning...great fun, surprisingly touching at times. 3.5 of 5.
Watched Die Hard 2 for the first time since its 1990 release. Liked it better this time around [back then, I was just highly disappointed it wasn't much like "Die Hard," which is still probably my favorite R-rated actioner ever]. 3 of 5.
I do this thing in my new[er] car where I take my portable DVD player and run the commentary track of a movie as I drive. Currently 2/3 through this "viewing" of Super 8 and being reminded of how much I surprisingly loved that film.

Evil Dead was okay, I guess. It was basically like Evil Dead's greatest hits as done by a stereotypical contemporary gore porn. I smiled at the bits clearly meant to pay homage, but overall it was just a reminder of how horror movies just suck nowadays.
As for Astonishing, I knew it was a motion comic adaptation, but I figured it would be truncated to squeeze all six issues into a little over an hour. Not the case at all. It's every panel word for word. Pretty impressive, though since the animation was so cheap, I'd figured they could have splurged a little for a better (or bigger name) voice cast.
Watched it last night with my daughter. It was good. Funny, and had lots of stars for the voice acting. I've always liked that franchise of animated films. Highly underrated IMO.
