No, Spider-Man's defense is 19 and Hulk's is 19. Hulk does not get a 20. Hulk shares Spider-Man's defense of 18, then Spider-Man and Hulk each get a hindering terrain modifier when Bulls-Eye targets them.
My reasoning is like this: What if Bullseye were ONLY targeting Hulk? No question, Hulk shares Spidey's 18 and adds the "htm" (hindering terrain modifier) for a defense of 19.
So why would it make a difference that Bullseye is targeting both? How does targeting Spidey make Hulk's defense go up?? Common sense says Hulk's defense would remain 19.
So that's my common sense arguement. If I had to make an arguement based on the rules, I would point out that "htm" is a modifier and thus should be applied last to any figure being targeted. Thus, Spidey would have to use his Defend ability first, in order to set Hulk's defense value, then Hulk and Spidey would get to modify their defense value with the "htm".
Originally posted by TheSpirit and melon_head, you're correct... I think. But does it even end there? If both are targetted, does the circle ever stop? Is there any reason Spider-man can't share his Hulk/Defender inflated defense back to Hulk?
I don't know.I have to Assume that you may only use the Defend/er ability once to avoid an infinity loop...Then again, this is involving figures from"Infinity Challange"

1) Bringing common sense into a rules argument is like bringing a banana to a gun fight.
2) Where exactly in the rules does it say when you apply modifiers, again? 'Cause that ain't in my rule book... well, actually, it is in my rule book, just not in my WizKids rule book...
it would stop with both having twenty because you can only count the hindering terrain bonus once. I completely disagree with what the spirit and remy are saying but am pointing out the end of the loop they have started. Try to point out the ridiculousness of what they are arguing.
My reason is that the defend has to apply before the attack is declared. Therefore they would both have 18 DV. Then for the attack they each get to add a +1 to their defense for HT.

I know exactly how ridiculous it sounds. That's the whole point. If you take the wording of the rules as they now stand, this is the logical, albeit crazy, conclusion. In other words, there needs to be a rules change to ensure this clearly cannot happen. Nobody here is arguing for this particular rules loophole; we're just arguing about its existence. There is a difference.

And again I say, show me in the rules where they discuss such timing issues. Show me where it says you calculate defense before the attack is declared.
I'll save you the time - it doesn't exist. And that's why we keep having these problems.

Why?Where does it say you have to declare using a defensive ability before the need arises? They are both targets,so if You stack it correctly,Spidey gets 19 Defense w/HTM,Gives it to Hulk, and then he gets a HTM to make is defense 20.I don't see the difficulty here. The Hulk in question(THANK GOD!!) is a Vet,so leave the E Hulk/Infinate Defend arguement out for petes sake!!

DEFEND. This character can share his defense value with friendly figures in adjacent squares. (Optional) Any friendly figure in a square adjacent to this character may use this character’s defense value instead of its own.
Spider-Man's defense value is 18. That is the value he can share according to the PAC. The hindering terrain is a bonus that is added after the fact. So Spider-Man shares his defense value of 18, then his defense is increased by the hindering terrain bonus to be 19. The Hulk receives the 18 defense and gets the same hindering bonus, making his defense 19 also.
Remember, it says he shares his "defense value", not his "defense values plus any bonuses". If that was the intent, they would have said that. HeroClix is a very literal game. Look at Pulse Wave and targeting your own figures as proof.
In my day, we didn't have Heroclix. If you were being attacked by Superman with a 3d dumpster, you just had to hope you could outrun him.
