Maybe I'm too much of an "old school" gamer and don't like the idea of fusing tabletop gaming with computer apps.
I'm kind of a tech geek myself so I love the idea. There's SO much that can be done on the app side!
If you haven't already, go over to boardgamegeek and check out the pics that have been posted for it. The fig detail is incredible. If you have the time I'd also recommend going to golemarcana.com and reading the "lore" section. Good stuff. You start to understand the factions.

I've looked at the game extensively and keep checking for updates. Based on what I see, I should be more excited by the game, but I'm not. Something about the game "feels clunky" to me.
Hmm... I don't get that feeling at all. In fact, quite the opposite. I think having the comp there will make things move smoother. No debates over LOF, rules, damage dealt, modifiers applied, etc.
Can you put your finger on what it might be that's bothering you?

I think the issue I have is that the physical aspects of the game look great and don't need the computer aspects.
I also think the computer aspects look great and the game could be developed into its own turn based computer game, without the need for the physical figures at all.
In other words, the game feels like it is split between two different mediums, when one is all that is really needed.
"The Valkali Colossus hosts a crew of three Golem Knights and has six arms, two of which wield 40 foot long blades while the other four cast powerful spells. Which spells a Valkali is capable of casting depends up on which faces she "wears". The huge Gudanna Valkali Colossus pre-painted plastic figure comes with eight different faces, and each face represents a magical spell. Players "snap on" four of her eight faces each game, to indicate which spells she may cast."

Does it NEED the digital aspect? Nope. The game could be played without it (in fact, I'd bet the rules are "deconstructed" within a week's time even if all modifiers and such aren't spelled out). But relating it to HC, look at what's on the table. Map, figs, objects, action markers, character cards, other tokens to mark effects on the cards, etc. Now what if you had an app that took care of everything except the figs, objects, and map? What if you didn't have to measure LOF? What if you didn't have to calculate all the modifiers and replacements... checking cards and dials, remembering outwit and perplex?
And what if you didn't have time to finish the game, needed to pack up and go, and could just save where you were at?
What if rules were always current, there were no players guide, and no reason to keep track of errata? What if a figure ended up so undercosted (BenCrawler) but could be adjusted on the fly?
And what if, in order to add a new character to your force, you could just tap and download?
What if, during big storyline events where WK tracks overall results, those had an actual impact on future game play? Think of the No Man's Land event where gangs were tracked... what if territory actually shifted to rival gangs, bonuses were applied to gangs that gained turf last week, win conditions changed dynamically due to how the city was now carved out?
Yeah, HeroClix is run without an app but just think of what COULD be done with one. And that's what Golem Arcana WILL do.

Sure it could. But that's not what Jordan wants. He still wants to bring people together to play games. He wants the game to be a real, physical thing with the app only adding to the interaction we all share, not diminishing it.

I think it's the next step in tabletop gaming. Evolutionary? Maybe not but certainly revolutionary. Jordan is laying the path that more and more games will eventually journey down.

I don't see it as evolutionary or revolutionary, I see it as gimmicky, but that's just me (old gamer syndrome I suppose).
I hope it gets funded so you and everyone who pledged get to play it.
I just don't think you're seeing it being utilized to it's full potential is all.
Its not that, its just that I don't NEED a game to do those things and therefore I don't see the point in having to pay for it, thus I see it as a gimmick.

Then you just need to pledge the "A la Carte" level and just buy the minis. As I said, I'm sure the game will be 'deconstructed' for those that don't want to play with all the "bells and whistles".

Then it is a better deal to just pledge the new Bones kickstarter where their minis are now under $1 each.
Yep. Given this I am amazed it was over $1MM the first day. Still, an amazing deal for anyone who plays tabletop minis or RPGs.
I agree. I got in on the first Bones because it was such a good deal when it was all said and done. And I don't even paint minis or play games that would require them! I may get in on round 2 as well (however, the figs they've put forth so far are much less interesting than round 1 figs were...so we'll see if I jump in).
Having said that, trying to compare Golem Arcana to Bones is apples and oranges.
