The maps are kinda cool but hats, dice, and poker chips for prizes? All for only $100, $200, or $650 to the stores and they really need to provide prize support to boot?
No con figs or factory sets or other actual 'Clix related goodness?
For someone who won't go to Dragon*Con, it seems pretty *meh* to me.
I assume that the con prizes/factory sets will be what you can use your points to purchase on the tgc website.
So people show up, pay to play, get points that they can use for prizes, the store gets the money back plus probably more, and the players get points to use for prizes, maps, etc.
Did you miss the part where you can use your points that you earn for the prizes that you probably think are missing?

I don't think so. I went to the tcgplayer website and tried to do a search for HC in their store. Using the pull down list for sets, they don't even have an option for the last three sets (I checked back to ASM).
It also looks like its more of an ebay-like place where people sell their own stuff. Anybody used tcgplayer for buying/selling? Anybody help with how it works?

They aren't doing any more travel vouchers? Dragon Con was a pretty expensive Con to get too. Hotel rooms were stupid expensive, way worse than Indianapolis for Gencon was.
We reduced the costs to the store by taking out some items (including the Travel Voucher). Plus, Travel Vouchers are just really hard to deal with (from a logistical and tax standpoint). My thinking was that stores would invest the difference from last year's cost and this year's cost into making their local event unique to their player base ... but we're not going to force stores to do anything. If they want to sponsor the winner to come to Dragon*Con, even better!
I want to be interested in this - I really do - but as much as this appears to want to be a "Big Deal" the lack of any real incentive (as Hair10 pointed out and I hate to agree with him) is holding me back.
I organized roadtrips like crazy when I had a small player base for L5R in central IL; we drove everywhere from Kansas City to Columbus to Green Bay; but those events were properly supported by the company that makes the game and had announced prizes that made us want to make the trip.
As much as I really want to do big Heroclix events, I can't justify driving solo and I'll have a hard sell telling people that they can win hats, dice and maybe the chance to drive to Atlanta on their own dime for a shot at an actual prize.

Oh I assumed that tcg had stuff that you could buy already.
Maybe they are going to work together with Howard and them to have stuff available to purchase?
Who knows. If tgc is basically like an ebay store, and the "credit" is only good towards buying stuff from other people (which doesn't guarantee anything good), then that really deflates this for me.

I could be wrong. It's just my impression from browsing the site. Anybody have any experience with buying/selling on tcgplayer that they want to share?

I think you are right. I did a search for Heroclix, and put nothing in the fields, and it brought up everything for sale.
It was pretty much just one of the singles websites, that starts with strike, selling stuff. There were a few random other sellers.
But it's mostly really overpriced, somewhat older stuff.
I'm really hoping they tell us that something else is being arranged. Outside of that happening it really deflates the high hopes I had for this.
Of course I had to see if there was a Florida one and Fort Walton Beach, Fl popped up. I don't want to be a downer, but that might as well not be in Florida. I can't blame anyone but myself. Though Centralized near Orlando would have been great for the whole state. Fort Walton Beach is all the way near the tip of the panhandle probably closer to 4 other states than the majority of the state of Florida. Far as I know you just had to apply and you got a tournament. So if no other place in Florida did that then I guess I should be happy. Though the 3 in GA are probably closer to me than the 1 in Fort Walton Beach.
You should definitely make the trip up to participate in the Super Qualifier I'll be hosting in Warner Robins!

All in good fun. You were the original judge for when I started playing, and it took me years before I could win any serious games against you (all the way back to things like the decktech challenge).

Trust me on this; it wasn't for lack of trying. If you distill what is going on with the event (and follow the money); you'll see that this really boils down to an event that is for players, by players. Sure there's an opportunity to make money (and we've committed to rolling excess funds into future ROC events to grow the prize pool) ... but that's never really been the driving factor behind ROC. For RealmWorx, it's about unifying the community and push forward with a "professional" (read: $$$) event that will put HeroClix on the same tier as all the other "big money" games.
But it's only going to be as successful as the support that we receive from the community and event planners ... and we have A LOT of confidence that it will be successful (investments have been made; product is ordered ... overhead is burdened)!
