Honestly, as far as rules go, you are the only one not seeing the clarity of it. Yes, you can argue there isn't a comma but it clearly states you can only use multiple relics if they are legion rings only. I honestly don't get how this is so confusing. It isn't even like this is to the point of game breaking that it needs to be looked at word for word, punctuation for punctuation.
That first sentence of the Legionnaire Flight Ring's special rules is very clear, something that is not all that common from Wizkids. Your force may include up to 3 of this relic regardless of its type. Nothing more. Nothing to say that it may be the only relic on your force. What are you reading that "Clearly states you can only use multiple relics if they are Legion Rings only."?
The strategic value of including Legionnaire Flight Rings on your Force along with another Relic (such as my Mother Box example) is irrelevant to the legality of a force that includes both.
What relic? This one. The Legion Flight Ring Relic.

I AGREE!
The two Legionnaire Flight Rings are part of the force without regard to type. Since their type doesn't matter, the third object can be whatever I want, thus Mother Box.
But that is precisely my problem - there isn't a "One Relic" check, just limitations based on type. And the Legionnaire Flight Ring can be added without regard to type. Since I am pretty sure you check force legality after all is said and done (rather than with each addition), wouldn't you look at three objects on the finished force, and see one object that is immobile and two that say "We can be here regardless of type?"
It can be added regardless of type, but it is still the type of object it is, so the other relic would not be able to be added, because you already have an object of that type. When you go to add say the M'Kraan Crystal Shard, and have a flight ring, it will check and see that there is an immobile object (even if it is in the light object slot) and cannot be assigned.
The two Legionnaire Flight Rings are part of the force without regard to type. Since their type doesn't matter, the third object can be whatever I want, thus Mother Box.
The problem is no other relic can be added to your force if there is another immobile object. So:
Assign Flight Ring 1
Try to Assign Mother Box
-Immobile object already exists, it isn't assigned because Motherbox doesn't allow itself to be added regardless of Type
OR:
Assign Mother Box
Try to Assign Flight Ring 1
-Immobile object already exists, it isn't assigned because it has to be assigned before the wording on the card takes effect. So, the first Flight Ring has to to to the whatever spot, because before it is assigned there is nothing saying that it can ignore what type of object it is.
I don't know that I'd consider being game breaking to be one of the reasons that something shouldn't receive scrutiny, although I can certainly understand when game-breaking stuff does receive a light degree of it.
I just don't see any wiggle room in this.
I agree everything should be errata'd that needs to be, however witht he SLoSH set only being out for a few weeks now and all the other game breaking mechanics in it, I don't see how this should get top priority over say, the SPO.
I guess I just see things that break the game more getting minimal treatment for the health of the game where as people running two different types of relics won't take away from the fun as much.

The third object can be whatever you want, provided it's not another immobile object and therefore illegal.

I understand your point. I suppose I was being somewhat pedantic in response. I'd certainly agree that this is low priority, especially within SLoSH.

And this is where we keep talking in circles .
The Legionnaire Flight Rings - by their own text - are added without regard to type. Why are you (royal you referring to everyone since I seem to be on my own here) reading that the "type" of the Legionnaire Rings matter?
Putting two Legionnaire Flight Rings on the force, when you go to add that third object, it is either another Legionnaire Flight Ring (which can be added because type doesn't matter to it), or another Relic (because the only objects already on the force don't place any restriction on "type").
Your force may include up to 3 of this relic regardless of its type.
I start adding objects with the Mother Box. Now I want to add a Flight Ring. Is one ring "up to three"? Yes. I should be able to add it "regardless of its type".
Is one more ring "up to 3"? Yes. Again, I should be able to add it.
I read it just as the OP does. Not saying it's correct, but regardless of it's type should mean that other object could be a relic. Clarification is definitely needed.
Boy, I sure have pissed off a lot of people lately on the interwebs. Sorry to all.
What about calling them "Papillomas?"

I do see the point as which the hangup is occurring.
But the other IO has no such restriction. It also is preforming the "can you legally assign me to the force" check. Even if I were to concede on whether "this relic" somehow meant "any relic" (which I'm not, BTW ) then you still can't assign another IO because then that object is illegally assigned. The only IO with the decreased limitation would be the LFR, not the Mother Box.

What he said.

I don't believe the order in which you add things to your force is really relevant to the end legality of the force. (I tried - and failed - to make the argument that it did in the "Vehicles & Resources" thread shortly after the Watch List became a thing)
I don't think any of you are saying that I could start with the other Relic then add two Flight Rings, but couldn't start with two Flight Rings and then add another Relic, are you? That would be silly. The order doesn't matter.
Let's step away from force construction and take a look at if we have a legal force:
When your force is checked for legality, you have three objects - two that can be there regardless of type, and one Immobile Object. Is that legal? Yes, yes it is.
