You know what this delay has taught me? I depend on the Units section a lot more than I thought I did. I've been building SHIELD and Hydra teams without it and it's been a lot more work.
So thanks to the volunteers who keep it running. You have consistently provided me a really helpful service and I appreciate how much time you save me by your efforts.
Is there any way to "block" my ability to see certain posters on the site? People who (a) pay nothing and (b) just throw hate around about the excellent work volunteers do on this site ... I don't want to read their postings anymore.
People thinking they could do what wonderboy does in two or three hours are greatly underestimating what he has to do.
Verifying all the powers, numbers, keywords, targets, range, spelling, etc is a daunting task with 60+ figures every set.
Just doing a copy and paste from the evidence thread isn't really viable since many times that information can have mistakes due to the hurry to get everything in.
Every set this thread pops up, many times just days after the set releases. To me that's insane.
Yes. Very much this. The set released 1.5 weeks ago, and people are going crazy. As perhaps the most outwardly facing portion of the site, I can see why the units section needs to be as correct as possible. Unfortunately, accuracy and speed are negatively correlated. To all those whoop say they could "bang this out in a couple hours" or "multitask and code them", I would bet pretty strongly the number of errors would go up.
Besides, it's not like there's no dials up...

Perhaps adding another volunteer or two would help, but I don't think adding a bunch of people would improve the process as much as you think it would. All the dials would still need to be checked, and I'd guess they want to verify against an actual dial/card, which are not always easy to come by.
In other words, parallelizing the process only helps so much when there's still inherent bottlenecks in the system.

Like many others, I do wind up having a bit free time and would love to help out.
Of course, props to Wonderboy and Emouse (and all the mods and volunteers on this site).
See, this is a constructive way to address it. I also think that with the new team builder tool, the name and point value suggestion is a great idea.
You have to think... would Typhon want you having access to his site in that way? You let the wrong person in and its going to be a big cluster f.
They have to have the skills and they have to be trustworthy.
That eliminates half of us, because I know if I whined as much as some of the folks here I wouldn't expect to be allowed to help

Furthermore considering how poor much of the forum community has gotten this isn't something that should be glossed over. Honestly if WK had an official database how much traffic would this site loose?
I dunno why this hypothetical would be tossed out, given WK hasn't had its own database this decade. And when they did have one, the Realms Unit section was still superior.

Ditto. Looking forward to an easier way to track all those "Changing the World" traits.
A stopgap solution of just entering the figures' name and point value for team building would help.
My guess is that would not result in any returned records as the SQL Join on the Dial would probably return nothing.
You would have to at least enter the first click dial numbers.
The question then is did you accomplish anything or just change the subject line of the OPs post?

I was wondering how long it'll take before people started complaining why the new set is taking too long to show up on the Units section. I guess 9 days is about right.
Hey, while all of us would love to have the unit section updated by now, I really don't think people understand that adding figures to the units probably takes considerably longer than generating a dial through the HCRealms dial generator. Entering and coding all this data to the database is a lot more complicated than people think. That and it's been mentioned a few times that while there's no shortage of volunteers, you still need to be vetted thoroughly as it gives you special access with powers that shouldn't be given out lightly. So with that in mind, I don't think added help can be given to speed up the process for this set. Maybe have more volunteers vetted and assigned by the time the next set drops?
I run HeroClix tournaments at Shuffle and Cut in La Habra, California. The format of each tournament will be posted here.
Of course we are all happy with the volunteers etc. But the website is a business and should be regarded as such. Everyone is aware new sets come out every three months. Either execute a game plan using well defined time management for these times, or get more people to help. Period.
You can't tell me a couple units per day is too much to ask for.
All these guys are saying is that they want to help out. Don't know why everyone needs to be so defensive. The units section is the main reason everyone is here. It deserves a little more attention.
There is a reason Ebontail caught the lion's share of the backlash
Some people inquired about the delay and offered to help or offered constructive suggestions
Some people dismissively claimed they could do better and kinda offered to help/patted themselves on the back for how much better they think they could do it
And Ebontail, well he skipped the offer to help part, jumped right into why this website somehow owed him more and that it's somehow irrelevant that all of the time and hard work are done on a volunteer basis and how all their work so far has been "mediocre"
A lot of people here actually appreciate the hard work and the time that the volunteers and contributers put in around here and we're going to get agitated when some self-entitled *individual* starts talking trash about them and their contribution.

And the standard response is always, "it's volunteer work" and "so and so is busy right now" If that's the case get more people to do it, cus who ever is now obviously can't handle ir.

Even if adding an entire set of units' names, stats, powers, traits, range, targets, keywords and errata was somehow a quick or easy 1-2 hour affair (hint: it's not). Would you REALLY take the time out of your life IMMEDIATELY (since that's somehow a requirement now) to do it for some strangers on the internet for no pay? And how many times do you think you could muster up the desire to do that for not nearly enough thanks before it starts to get old? Once? Twice? a dozen times?
Take a scroll the units section for a minute to realize how massive that thing is and how many times the volunteers have once again taken it upon themselves to update it despite threads like this springing up every single set.
This song was playing in my head as I read this THREAD
Some of you come off like a millennial who's whining that Google or the Internet won't work, and they've got a term paper due the next day. Why don't you try a Library?
My best guess at the reaction: "Well I don't know what that is or where to find one because I can't Google it!"
It's like when one of my young co-workers tells me they can't come in to work because their car won't start. When I mention taking the Bus or a Taxi it's as if I've asked them to part the Red Sea

There are 39 figures from the Nick Fury set in the units section, plus bystanders and alternate starting lines. That's an average of 2-3 new dials per day since the set hit, once we account for the dials that were previewed early.
So yeah, it's not too much to ask for, because it's happening. Try to have some perspective and patience when there are 90+ dials with tons of text in the traits and powers.
