Well I have just been playing for about 7 months but here is my story
It all started one christmas when i was nine i was really into pokemon cards and i hated yguioh cards (i was young and didnt know any better) anyways my mom put 2 packages of yugioh cards in my stockings and i thought "how could mom do this to me?" anyways my friend (lets call him Tanner) was into yugioh cards so i thought i would just give them to him well he came over and looked at the cards and said you got exodia?!!!! It looked like he was about to kiss me (and we are both guys so that is saying something) anyways he taught me how to play the cards. I imidiatly "forgot" about the game. Eventually I caved into the whole watch Yu-Gi-OH! thing and i got really involved in it so i bought my first pack (i got like really lame cards i might add) and ever since then i have been obsessed with yugioh cards (even though no one else in my town is) I go to tournaments every time i can (actually i am tuesday) anyways it taught me all about never giving up (i mean i came in 86th place out of 96 in my last tourney) so thanks Yugioh cards!
The first time I'd heard of Yu-Gi-Oh! was when my younger brother started playing it and watching the show. I didn't think to much of either, but for x-mas i bought him both starter decks, one of the first tins, and three booster packs. He tried to teach me to play, but he put together a really bad deck with just random cards he wasn't using. Absolultely, no strategy whatsoever. Needless to say, I gave up. A few years later, I met my boyfriend, and he told me he played Yu-Gi-Oh!. At first I was like "...ok, whatever." Then he built me a much better deck (a Gren Maju da Eza deck to be exact) and taught me how to play. Playing has definately helped our relationship. It helped bring us closer, and keep us from getting bored. We've had some...wild adventures at tournaments, too.
Back in October of 2002, my best friend(Crazycard70) stopped by my home in MD on the way to Alabama from NY for a job interview. He knew that I love RPGs so he decided to introduce me to yugioh cards and explained the rules, moves. etc. I was getting intrigued by that but resistant at the same time. I have never played TCG before that but decided to give a try by starting with Yugi and Kaiba starter decks and few MRL packs. The rest is the history.
way before i ever heard the word "yu-gi-oh" i was collecting and selling (for sheer profit) pokemon cards through out my middle school. i never had much money on hand so selling cards paid for lunch for about a full school year.i never really played and only learned how to for a free box of 1st ed jungle. about two years later i was screwing around on the cpt when i relized that i had played all the game boy games i had wanted to play (emulator) so i went to a game site and downloaded the top ten requested games... yugioh was one.. so i played it for a bit and liked it.months pasted and i started high school and during spanish class there was a group of 4 or 5 kids that played every day in the back of the class. i figured why not play. this guy lou hooked me up with my first deck (i think he gave me a regeki for free). not too long after i bought my first booster packs and pulled the real change of heart and gate gaurdian(1st ed) and have been playing off and on ever since.i dont find the show all that interesting, i have to say the game has been a great way to pass time and make some money (once in a while).
well 2 years ago when i was first introduced to yugioh it was in school and i saw my friends shawn and lee playing the game on a bench. so i walked over and watched. i had no clue what they were doing. face down cards flipping them over, sideways cards. i had no clue. id never heard of it before. to me it sounded complex. but i did like looking at the cards. i remember the first one that caught my eye. it was the blue eyes white dragon. it was the ultra rare one from lob (didnt know that at the time). i just thought it looked super cool. so i sat down and watched part of the show. i thought "wow, this was a waste of time." and let it be for a year and a few months. then one night i was watching tv during supper and i was flipping through channels. the very first yugioh episode i ever saw in full was the one were seto kaiba was breaking into his own house and trying to hack pegasus' mainframe. after they kidnapped mokuba and tried to kill seto. i was like "wow, that seto kaiba guy is really cool" so i tried to catch the show the next night but i missed it. i ended up watching it every night i could. then when i went to the lancaster fair i went directly to the card tent. bought a lob pack. pulled the super rare celitc guardian (which was one of my fav monsters). so i was pleased. then i bought kaiba and yugi evolutions and a bunch of other packs.
thats kinda how i got into the game. it changed my life from being into older card games (although i never understood magic...) into being into some of the newer things. like if seto kaiba wasnt in the show id probably still be making fun of it. i became friends with some people who previously were just acquaintances.
Ya....all the nostalgic memories..... I remember when I first arrived @ Toronto I didn't know anybody, plus it was my first time being in a western high school system where you havta move around all the time. Back them some1 in one of my classes introduced me to MTG, then I started playing it. But as I soon got into that card game, I found YGO 2 b more interesting, so I started that also. And because of the card club @ our school, I was able to meet ppl who weren't even in any of my classes, as well as ppl who were not in my school. So ya...it was a good social event 4 me ^-^ Now I have 6 YGO decks and is currently building another 4, with a whole stack load of collection (fusions, rituals, holos that look good, even commons).
This game has really changed my life alot, and I can still remeber how I used 2 hate it before reading tha manga. I still remember seeing my little cousins play adn thought it was just plain stupid. Now I'm the 1 who they call stupid cuz they don't play anymore =P undefined
I remember the first time episode 101 (1 for US) aired, I had to play the game not matter what. So my brothers and I created yugioh cards. This was until one destined day at walmart there on the shelves... Was LOB and the yugi and kabi decks... I bought some packs and the yugi starter deck. My bros. got kaiba and some packs. I remember my first rare was final flame (even though my youngest bro pulled left arm, halo monster reborn, rageki). I still have that to this day. Inside that card holds my desire to play... Then of course by the time of PSV a torny started at this card shop in town. It all started off from there.
By the way, i still don't see a lot of chics playing yugioh (in real life, not internet).
It all stared one day at the mall. I was 11 at the time, and had been watching the series. I went to my favorite store at the time (Gamestop) and saw some packs on the back wall. I asked my dad to buy me one (one of the 3 instances where I didn't buy the pack myself). It was a Thousand Eyes Bible, a japanese pack. I was kind of angry, but got over it. A few weeks later, I bought a Pharonic Guardian pack, also Japanese. Then, I bought DDS and the Yugi starter, and thought I was unstoppable. But, finally, I went to Wal-Mart and saw MRD packs. I thought to myself, "probably Japanese, but they look cool" Lo and behold, English! and a Sanga of the Thunder to Boot! Yeah! My Yu-gi-oh career has begun!
Afterwards, I started going to the GameFAQs message boards, where I started to learn basic deckbuilding skills, good cards, etc. Then, I heard of Yugiohrealms. I went, signed up, and didn't think much of it. But, 2 months later, I logged in and saw the Trading Forums. There, I made some trades, learned some stuff, etc.
Sometime in the middle of the last paragraph, I got two friends into Yugioh. The first one, I didn't like that much because I didn't think we had much in common. As I was telling him this, I mentioned that I like Yugioh. Him, having seen the show and learning about the the TCG, rushed out to buy SDK. I played with him over the summer until school started. I told my best friend since Pre-school about the game, and reluctantly he started playing.
A while later, after beefing up my collection with many, many packs. I attended the Duelist League for 5 weeks. Here, I learned and obtained many cards. But, mainly, got a taste of tournament play. Before this, I had an even W/L ratio with my long-time friend, and almost always stomped my other friend. But here, was a whold new level. (BTW, thge time was when LOD came out) My longtime friend and I took 2nd in a tag team tournament. A week later, I lost the second round of a single tournament.
After that, I quit for a loooong time. Then, I aquired an Exiled Force. I brought it here to sell, but learned of the Arkansas Regionals. I immedately started preperation. Three months later, the big day arrived. I went 1-4. Discouraged, I went on.
My next tourny was the Flaming Eternity Sneak Peek. I went 2-1 without pulling much. By now I was running Harpie. I went to the Next Regionals last week, and went 3-4. Now, I anticipate the next one.
Moral of the story, Yugioh has:
Saved a friendship
Taken roughly $300-$500
Helped me meet new people
Given me something to hide from most of my school
and much, much more.
I remember that fateful day at Walgreens when I saw the first two starter decks and thought, 'Hey, those are pretty cool.' So after a half an hour debating on which one to get, I got both. I also remember my first day at my first tornament. Especailly getting whooped REAL bad. It seemed like so long ago. I've meet many people and dueled many duels. The friends I've made I don't know what I'd do without.
I hadnt out of sheer chance turned it on, and saw the Summoned Skull - a monster I thought looked undenyably cool (I'm an artist, of course I noticed the art first). Then I saw yugi. I remember literally jumping up and down with happiness when I had a summoned skull of my own, and I saw yugi use the card on the show. I was like "DUDE I'VE GOT THAT CARD!!!".. So I can understand where little kids come from. That was a long time ago, before I learned how to play the right way. The game has made me a lot of friends, gave me a lot of good memories, and it's just a fun game to play. I even got my first g/f (who is now my first ex girlfriend) regardless that almost every female duelist I know really isn't very skilled.. Note I said MOST, not all so keep the flaming and spamming to a minimum hahaha j/k j/k. Seriously though, Two of my currently best friends taught me how to play with tributes right after they learned, and one of them showed me what a good deck is made of. Those two don't duel much (if ever) anymore. It's a shame, if they'd stayed with it, they'd be really good right now. Course, then I met two other kids who played a lot longer than I had at the time. They both showed me what the good cards were, they took the time to help me make a tourny competitive deck, help me become an UDE judge, AND, and this one is a HUGE one - They helped me replace cards like Raigeki, Monster Reborn and Change of Heart (LONG before the bans hit) for my deck after the whole thing went through a complete wash/rinse cycle. I rebuilt my dragon deck and it beat so many people which is why I'm considering rebuilding it someday. Now they're Tourny Organizers, and I'm a level 1 judge. I owe them a lot hehehe. Is it just me or does that sound like the absolute worst sob story ever? wow.. Ok I'm done..
I remember when I first was introduced to YuGiOh TCG. Before I started buying cards, I was first hooked on the cartoon. But I do remember the day that my card-buying days began.
It was the day after Christmas in 2002. My godmother and I went to the local KMart so I could buy some stuff with the money I had received from Christmas. I spent an hour in the store trying to figure out what I wanted to get, and I couldn't think of anything. That was... until we were ready to leave. That's when I spotted them. Right there by the first register were YuGiOH cards from 2 booster sets... Pharoah's Servant and Magic Ruler (now known as Spell Ruler. I'm still trying to figure that one out). I was curious about what kind of cards they were, so I bought 6 packs of each. When I got home, I started opening the packs. I started with the Pharoah's Servant packs first. The first pack I opened... contained my very first SCR... Imperial Order!!!
My first duel... happened about a month later. I dueled one of my friends, using all the cards I had bought the month before. 108 cards. And his deck, I believe, had about 60 cards in it. But he went easy on me and said that he'd only allow one monster to attack per turn. I had one of his friends coaching me as I dueled 'cause I didn't know what the hell I was doing. We only went one round, and somehow... I managed to win. I was getting the hell stomped outta me from the beginning of the duel, but somehow... I won. The next thing I know, the dude that was coaching me wanted to duel me. So I had to fly solo. Needless to say, he monkey-stomped my a** throughout the entire duel and beat me. But from that point on... I was hel-bent on wanting to beat that dude in a duel. And it happened a few months later. Right around the time that Labyrinth of Nightmare came out.
Here it is... 2005. I duel whenever I get the chance (which is once or twice a week). The only people I've been dueling are my roommate and friends. Right now, me and my roommate are tied 15-15. My Dragon deck versus his Beast deck.
Aaaah, I remember the days...my very first pack was Magician's Force and I got a first edition Dark Magician Girl...My friend had actually bought me that pack too! How I laughed!
Next pack, Magician's Force again and lo and behold, XYZ Dragon Cannon, once again, bought for me cos I was a skint 1st year college student - Believe me, not much has changed!
The first pack of Ancient Sanctuary I got, my boyfriend bought me, and I got The End of Anubis, 1st ed.
Years later, with the appearance of my crappy warrior deck, I bought many packs of LOD (is it LOD?...the one with the warriors/spirits/dragons in) getting two Hino Kago Tsuchis.
Altogether, I've had some bloody great luck with my packs...and my friends, who introduced me to the game, and gave me many a card, including a really tatty (but I don't care) Call of the Haunted, even tattier Black Skull Dragon, and my very first tribute monster...Wingweaver, which, believe it or not, made me start my very first Fairy deck! Which has been revived many a time, but it rests now in it's final, and best form!
Yu Gi Oh rocks! And it's not only for the boys!!!
