i agree that themed teams are more fun, but that's primarily when everyone is playing a theme. i love playing Avengers teams, but not if i have to face OWAW Superman carrying around psylocke with a bunch of con artists in tow.

on of the most fun games i ever played was when a friend and i played a little interdimensional invasion. he had his veteran FF, i had blastaar and annihilus leading an army of skrulls, AIM, and Hydra thugs. it was immense fun to dogpile thing, smack the human torch, and then get incapacitated to death by an invisible woman on her last couple clicks. it played out just like a comic book.

oh, x-men blue was mentioned earlier. i did the math once (i don't have all the figs so i can't do it) and if you take the vet versions of cyclops, psylocke, wolvie, gambit, beast, and rogue, and throw in a professor x, it comes to exactly 600 points. i thought that was kinda cool, though i don't know how well it would work in a game at that level.

I'm at the point where I feel pretty confident about winning tourneys (not trying to be a jerk) if I bring a competitive tourney team.

Because of this, I've found I have more fun playing theme teams against typical "boring same figure" tourney teams. Keep in mind...to the purist...a true theme team (Avengers, JLA, X Men) is made up of only those team symbol figures.

I agree with Thugit 100% that a pure X Men team has the highest chance of victory. For a tourney several months ago (when the old rules were still in use), I brought:

E Wolfsbane
U Shadowcat

to a mixed Marvel/DC team. I placed 1st out of 9 players, never being defeated even against Nightwing/Doombot/Ninja teams. So it can be done. In fact, I'd say that team can still be a threat with a few tweaks.

I disagree with Thugit that the JLA aren't as tourney worthy. In fact, their great range of figs, IMHO makes them much more playable than a Brotherhood or Avengers team (in a 300 pt setting).

It was bloody...but it was a victory.

I still say that a true test of playing skill is to win under a theme team condition. Save the same old 'always played tourney figs' for the people that can't play any other way.

I recently played the most fun game I've ever played. It was a 3 way 500 point Marvel battle. I had the FF, My sister had Avnegers and my little cousin had the X-men. It really was a good time. Comic based teams can work but are hard. It's best to use them when everyone is doing the same

Hey Alfred should have had support, since he's always healing batman, but I can see where they didn't want to make him too broken (can you imagine a stealth token with support). That would be nuts.

A medic would do wonders for the JLA.

And the Avengers.

And the Brotherhood.

And the Syndicate

Especially the Masters of Evil.

There are two schools of thought on theme teams. Some allow medics and minor supporting figures. Purists like SL and myself just prefer a pure banner lineup.

Vet Batman..or so named the useless one :P

I got one off a lot on ebay and I still wanted the figure even though it has no batman team ability. After I got it on saturday in the mail, i went to a tourney and bought a two boosters of hypertime. My first pull was a vet batman. I had got 3 boosters and I never played a sealed booster game so I figured Id use the peices from my 3 boosters against everyone elses constructed teams.

My first game I played a vet mandarin and a vet cyclops. Anytime I moved batman anywhere near my opponents team, batman was at least taking two clicks of damage or more. The 16 defense with no stealth really hurts. After healing him a few times and some of my team was getting wiped out in the process I healed batman, and luckily he was on his 3 damage with CCE. I put him right next to cyclops, he ended up clearing house, he took out mandarin and cyclops in a matter of a few turns. Of course I had vet deathstroke I pulled to run interference.

So basically I just dont think the extra points are worth it, I'd rather use my unique batman and get the 17 defense and 10 attack. The 3 with CCE is nice though.

For a theme game, he isnt too bad, just make sure he isnt out front, and kudos to you for using him instead of the experienced we see all too much

I alwais play "only" comic scenarios with my friends. Is more fun alwais, I alwais see the HClix like a collector, its the way. I ws play a lot of comics scenarios like:
