It's sad really. This use to be a really productive board, but it seems that all the complaining has drummed that all out. Through, all the nonsense, you can still find creative ideas among the sea of garbage.
Yeah, if the creators of the creative ideas are not flamed for advocating change......
My point:

Wow. Are you high?
The costs inherent with installing such a short-sighted, naive plan would drive WK into bankruptcy.
See? Unneeded hostilities....
Thats my only problem with these boards, everything becomes a flame war sooner or later.:(

Prize support ideas is more what i'm trying to get at... the removal of the NEED TO WIN mentality, and the replacement with " tabletop gamers cause we got nothin else to do on a thursday night " mentality.
I really think WK needs to take a fresh look at their Organized Play system. I'm assuming that the whole purpose of the Organized Play system is to encourage people to play the game and attract new players into the game.
While the competive, tournment style of play certainly does encourage people to play, I'm not sure it attracts very many new players. In fact, the very nature of the competitive environment can scare off new players.
Competitive play is a vital part of organized play, but should it be the ONLY part of organized play? I think WK needs to come out with an additional system or format to encourage casual play at venues. This would be the proper method to encourage new players to play the game. Something that is not tournment systel, where someone can stop by and play 1,2 or 3 games against different opponents. Something similar to the Magic the Gathering Arena league. Use a player reward system where players gain points for playing and can eventually trade points in for stuff. Or give "cheap" prize support like dice, rulers, updated rulebooks and SEC card, etc....
If WK doesn't do something soon, MW will die on the vine. One of the venues that I used to play at, has done away with hosting MW due to lack of interest. I spoke with the owner last week and he's not even ordering any Counterassault due to lack of interest. Luckily, I have other venues to play at....
Never thought I'd agree so whole-heartedly with someone with a handle like Dr. Evil.
Just to play devil's advocate, WK might not be amenable to a the bookkeeping involved. Now that the Topps sale is complete, they can remove the corset and blue eyeshadow, and return to the participation program. Remember the one they cancelled 'due to lack of interest'?
If your all sick of the whining post in my "Postitive Thread";)
And yeah, about WizKids prize-support and aproved play... I think WizKids needs to dis-continue some of there games in order to "up" their profit. That way, they can boost play-testing, aproved play, marketing, and so-and-so for their games that already sell, thus making more profit.
i think the easyest way to stop all of this would simply release a le exspantion the thing that magic dose to keep thing going is to keep all unit avalable they don't have any card playable that you can only get from winning turrny's also i don't know how many dollars i've spent on le's that could of gone to wizkids if i could of bought them from them insted of TIMMY THE POWER GAMER LOL
Totally agree with the over whining seditment. Ive been accused of flaming because i basically call all whiners "wow noooo you beat my kool mini with yours it must be unfair." Grant it WizKids did creat some problems like for me tank drop, but there are ways around it....take a higher defense mech.
Also good on yah for giving away the prizes frankly i dont get that many but i have been gifted with uniques and everyone our group down here is pretty generous.

Originally posted by X_Berg I do enjoy the competative environment. I enjoy it quite a bit actually, as i'm sure that many others do as well. What we don't enjoy is a competative environment with a bunch of arsehats making the competative environment poisoned with craptastic armies, lame attitudes, and smug antics. Nobody enjoys that.
I think the biggest problem I have with all of this is the train of thought that tries to weed out "craptastic" armies. What makes an army "craptastic", exactly? Or "cheese" or "broken" or "cheap" or whatever the latest buzzword is on these boards? Is it an army that uses powerful units that, god forbid, do damage? Or is it an army that doesn't indulge the more nerd-centric philosophy of "faction purity"? What makes an army craptastic to you? One that wins? That's a fallacy. Every game played will have a winner and a loser. Fact of life.
I think more than a "craptastic" army being the target of your ire is the attitude of the person playing the army. Now I agree with you about lame attitudes and smug antics; these kind of behaviors displayed in opposing players will often kill the buzz for those there to have a good time.
However, this is not WizKids' responsibilty to fix. Fact is, power-hungry LE hunters are another fact of life. Any time there is a prize to be won, there will be people out there that will go all-out to win it. Hopefully, if a BattleMaster or another player notices these behaviors displayed in a player, they will take the time to single them out and either discuss the behavior with them or have them removed from the venue. After all, no one's fun should be sacrificed in the process.
The old Approved Play program was always meant to be temporary. It just makes business sense. You spend the first year your game is out getting players interested and getting them involved; the first year of any business venture is going to result in a loss, so a smart business will find a smart way to maximize that loss to promise future profit. The Redemption program was a loss for WizKids. A write-off meant to get people interested in the game. Then, once they were hooked, the plug was pulled. The new program rewards winners of any event, and it also awards the people that display good Fellowship. And to boot, they give more types of events, which means more variety of prizes to be won. What more could you ask?
And heinous as this may seem to you, yes, I do find a lot of this thread and the ones like it to be nothing but WHINING. I'm glad you enjoy the competitive environment and I'm glad you do well for yourself, but I fear that so many people on this board have allowed themselves to be seduced by the thought that this game is broken that they let themselves get talked out of liking it. I find it happening to me, too. I can only read so many of Warflail's "arty is killing this game" rants before I start believing it too. But then when I go out and actually PLAY, I have a great time no matter what kind of army I face or what kind of army I field, because I ENJOY THE GAME. You can't let the whining cover up everything good about this game. These are my frustrations. My apologies for the harsh manner in which I vented them this morning, I was tired and grumpy.
Apology accepted. I'm pretty sure you didn't intend for that kind of remark.
Anyway You and i are in the same boat, on pretty much everything you've said. We share alot of the same views.
We're lucky to have a good time when we head out to play, and we don't have to worry about much.
The idea is how to make it less inviting for LE Hunters to go out of their way to make the game annoying.
I'm not about nerfing this SE, and that SE or whatever. In fact i like them the way they are... cept for Charge... i'm glad they ratified that the way they did. But i digress.
The key is how to make the venues more fun and inviting, while making the LE hunters pacified, and the good time boys pacified by providing a competitive environment, with an enjoyable atmosphere.
This is the big question.
Ah.
Non Craptastic.
I play 2 Arrow 4s.
Craptastic
I play all my artillery, making sure i have a steel wolves j37 ready to pick them up at any threat along with a peasant infantry shield along with some mech with grapple, along with a horde of vtols etc etc etc etc.
Its not about the cheese. Everyone likes a little cheese. But if you throw too much on, it overpowers the food. If you understand.
I totally understand that its up to the individual. But its unfortunate that the individuals won't take it upon themselves. In which case, all we can do, is hope that the thinktank in wizkids can think of a better way to cater to everyone.
