Sigh, yet another set that will be easy on the wallet...I play DF and SW...
Unless there's some serious changes, I wouldn't rely on that reasoning. The RotS don't look to have gotten any loving in this set yet, despite not existing in CA.
Hrm, I feel stupid. I forgot that the Cyclops or Warhammer IIC might have a 23 (I don't have stats on everything...). LEs too, gotta count those among things that could have 23. And vehicles.
The Gyrfalcon is 55 tons and the Tiburon, Storm, -AND- Eyrie are all 'apparently' 35 tons. Kinda light, eh?
Of all those, and I'm recounting from memory here, the Eyrie, Gyrfalcon, Storm, Tiburon, and Vulture have 18 defences. Or less. Gyrfalcon (or its LE) could have 17. And that's for something that costs over 200 points (I think). The Vulture almost probably costs over 200 (though I don't know). The Thor has only a 21 (and trust me, the other stats are completely lacking to redeem it for the high points cost it's at). The Shrike, weighing in at an 'impressive' 300 points, has 22 defense with heavy armour. Worried yet?
Extras- SalvageMech MOD is a repair 'Mech. It actually looks good, I like the idea. It seems they could be quite effective at what they do too, and still manage to be able to put up a fight. Then again, I haven't seen complete stats.
Those Sylphs? They're 16" buggahs with move mode VTOL. Correction on names, it's 'Flamer Team' and 'Sniper Team.'
There are three new pieces of SE, all green on damage.
Liao get a Panther, but it sucks beyond reason. Sorry Warzog, don't know if SC have one. Hopefully they will so atleast SOMEONE will feel satisfied with this set.
There's other stuff, but I think I've let enough out for everyone to get pissed at for now.
I'm not quite sure how much of this has been balanced or atleast changed, this was all leaked to me a month ago. Some or pretty much all of it may be completely wrong, but it's something atleast. If someone that has the power to change some of this sees this, please do
Here's the 'spoiler of the day.'
Merciless. When this unit makes a death from above attack, roll one six-sided die and add the result to this unit's attack value for that attack. This unit does not take any damage when it makes a successful death from above attack. This unit takes one click of damage when it makes an unsuccessful death from above attack.
Sweet. Thanks for all the possible info. It would be great to see the Panther and Griffin as non-uniques. Especially if Dragon's Fury gets a Panther (But Sword Sworn will probably get it *shakes fist*).
And clan Sea Fox? Shouldn't if be Diamond Shark? Or are the Sea Foxes going to be a splinter group who decided to take up their clan's original name and go defend their assets?
After their Abjuration by the Home Clans, the Diamond Sharks changed their name back to Sea Fox. They also split the Clan into several nomadic bands, called Khanates.
IIRC the Touring the Stars articles about them are still up.
Hmmm Here is a disturbing vision. Cut to design room for up coming Falcons Prey Expansion. You know guys there seems to be distinct lack of DFA in this game all any body wants to do now is charge are Arrow 4 things to death. Ohhohh I know lets give a Crusader Clan a Faction ability that will fly in the face of Clan Battle Doctrine and combine a HTH weapon damage roll with DFA to encourage more DFA. On the plus side it will finally make Jump Jet equipped mechs cost effective again and they may not notice almost all the new mechs defense's blow and cost a ton in points to field and run screaming like school girls from Highlander Mechs.
I could understand some mechs with 20 or even 19 defenses, but 200+ point mechs should have AT LEAST a 20 defense, and that means something else rocks hard to compensate.
The Gyrfalcon stats out seem balanced enough, in theory. For low defense you get speed, JJ, strong and consistent attack values, long range, and wicked damage. Makes it a bit difficult to play, but at least there is something there worth it.
On one hand pieces like this may make games go quicker; they can kill enemy mechs in 3 hits but suffer the same weakness. If not for a select few things (namely tank drops and the SS A4) it would promote a more fluid, maneuver oriented battlefield. I'm afraid of tankdrop being used even more now though, with those high cost, low defense mechs.
I will however withold judgement. I am at the same time skeptical and hopeful.

hehe, the HL design paragim has frustrated many an opponent,
i just hope the sculpt for the templar is awsome
I hoe they do a pre sale at origins, i wanna get som enew HL's for my forces early
@Flushmaster
it seems like a fair trade, but with all the charge out there, and a swift DFA from liao mechs low defense is almost a taboo,
my HL mchs have benifited many times from overconfident chargers :devious: those fails hurt
This could have some potential IF they are planning to implement Move and Shoot for mechs.
It would then explain the lower defenses and higher attacks. A mech might not need a high defense if it can then move and shoot. If they dont implement move and shoot these rules combined with the new low stats for defense might just possibly drive me away from the game.
I really hope not but I will be patient and wait and see. I see a lot of potential to be really good or REALLY bad if these new things are true.

Speed? 9 isn't fast, hasn't been for some time now.
Long range? Again, 14 isn't long. Long is a charge, artillery attack, drop or VTOL move n' shoot.
It isn't balanced, not in the slightest. It's a fragile, medium speed Mech, packing a wallop, but far too easily salvaged by far lesser points to be playable.
Also the rumoured Faction Abilities are pretty much worthless in making it playable.
