How good would the Wolf Dragoons lance be in a 900 pt game. It seems nice: 2 heavy hitters, 2 agile mechs. The centurion is fast, but dies quick...i donno
I think the Kell Hounds would be working for the Steiners, and the Stormhammers by proxy. Maybe even the Wolves in Exile. They are a traditionally Lyran-loyal company, so I do not see why they would change now. I doubt they would turn down a contract from any of the protagonistic factions, unless it conflicted with their nationalism. I doubt they would go with the Swordsworn, as there is probably some animosity still remaining from the FedCom Civil War.
The Steel Wolves would never hire Mercenaries, as it goes against Clan tradition. Then again, Anastasia is known to bend the rules when it suits her.
All the Mercs represented thus far in Dark Age are of the more reputable and honorable type(read: good guys). Mercs who break contracts and backstab do not get any more jobs. I would still like to see some "bad" Mercs. The Eridani Light Horse are definitely good guy-types. I do not think they have any nationalistic preferences.
@Ignition - oh ya, the merc behemoth has an awesome color scheme... thing is that it's dial sucks a big one. Pulled it in one of the few boosters I've bought and though 'eh, well at least it looks cool'. I have such bad booster luck.
Animosity? I suggest you go reread the FedCom Civil War fluff. The Kell Hounds were some of Victors biggest backers. Even going so far as to be part of the force that claimed the throne from Katrina, and fighting Nondi Steiner. I highly doubt they'd quibble about working for the Swordsworn.
The ELH would be most likely to work with the Republic, Highlanders, and Swordsworn. The Republic and Highlanders are closest to the old star league of all factions, and the ELH have a long, and benificial history, or working for Davion.
Hanson's Roughriders would most likely work for Stormhammer or Swordsworn. They were primarily a Steiner merc co, but took a number of contracts through Davion as well.
21st Centauri would almost NEVER work for Liao. They've had bad history with the Capellans, and aren't likely to want to have anything to do with them.
The Ronin are unlikely to work for the Dragon's Fury as they are basically social outcasts from Combine society. Liao might also not contract with them for that reason.
All the merc companies in game are all 'good' guys in almost every sense of the word. They are among the most honorable, loyal, and steadfast units of the Inner Sphere (not just merc units). Well, with the exception of the Ronin, who didn't exist prior to DA.
I have not read about the FedCom Civil War. I should have remembered the part about them bringing down Katrina, however. Good call on that, and knowing the loyalties of the other companies. I was merely speculating.
Maclovia is actually pretty good. Fancy idea, but without a ranged weapon with a 0-2" minimum range...any other agility mech with a ranged attack would kill her fairly easily.
Sorry for the lack of updates, trying to get my hands on the remaining merc units i'm missing. More to come soon....... :)
Nikol Brahe - 174 points
James Odom - 124 points
Uller - 125 points
Mobile HQ - 24 points
Total: 447 points
Nikol is a solid unit to play, plunk her in hindering and let her go to work. James is more of a light harasser with his streaks. The uller has SU AP. Mobile HQ is well....filler. Do note that it takes about 3 turns before its command kicks in.
Units available to the Kell Hounds:
1. Nikol Brahe - 174 points
2. Giggins APC - 29 points
3. Arbalest - 119 points
4. James Odom - 124 points
5. Mobile HQ - 24 points
6. Uller - 125 points
7. Gray Death Battle Armor - 17 points
8. Behemoth II Tank - 98 points
Just for fun - Percentage of units from each merc regiment!
(Correct to 1 decimal place.)
@ smokejaguar4 : Err, there's a link to a .jpg file of all the mercs available divided into regiments. I put up on the first page of the thread. The MWRealms units page one isn't quite complete with regards to that criteria. Hope that helps. :classic:
Ronin Army (Pure)
2 x ForestyMech B - 172(86x2) points
2 x Balac Strike VTOL - 86(43x2) points
Zahn Heavy Transport - 30 points
3 x Kanazuchi Battle Armor - 54(18x3)points
5 x Special Forces Team - 70(14x5)points
Miko's Blades San(Inner Sphere BA) - 18 points
Miko's Blades Yoh(Purifier BA) - 20 points
Total: 450 points.
Pros:
(Again working on the assumption of mercs being able to formation.) The dual ForestryMech Bs are chargemonkeys, pure and simple. They both have 10 attack, and do 5 damage on the charge each. The twinned balacs are there to mop up whatever the ForestryMechs don't finish off. The Zahn is toting 3 Kanazuchis; which are also nasty individually(8IT, 2 DMG energy). Special forces are there to provide support and to harass initially. Miko's San is there for base-break-shoot actions and Miko's Yoh is just there because its a solid infantry piece.
Yes, you are allowed to shout "BANZAI!" as your mechs careen wildly into your opponents units.
Cons:
This army suffers from reasonably poor shooting ranges, and is overly dependant on the twin mechs hitting their targets. This army is fairly hard hitting but fades quickly.
***Disclaimer: These armies are there solely for fun. Don't expect to waltz into a tourney and beat anyone. If you do, you'd have earned the right to rag the person furiously. ;)
Units available to the Ronin:
1. Kanazuchi Battle Armor - 18 points
2. Balac Strike VTOL - 43 points
3. Crimson Hawk - 127 points
4. Zahn Heavy Transport - 30 points
5. ForestryMech B - 86 points
6. Special Forces Team - 14 points
7. ForestryMech MOD-B - 70 points
8. Miko's Blades Ichi(Infiltrator MK I Battle Armor) - 12 points
9. Miko's Blades Ni(Gray Death Battle Armor) - 14 points
10. Miko's Blades San(Inner Sphere Battle Armor) - 18 points
11. Miko's Blades Yoh(Purifier Battle Armor) - 20 points
12. Geof Morgan - 243 points
Eridani Light Horse Army (Pure)
Lori Kyle - 160 points
2 x Blade - 276(138x2) points
Purifier Battle Armor 13 points
Total: 449 points.
Pros:
Lori Kyle is a funny unit. 'nuff said. You'll find her dial full of surprises. Be they pleasant or otherwise. She's fun to field. Try it! You might like it. The ELH Blade is bloody nasty, when 2 are used together, they are plenty nasty. 11 move with evade, 0-10, 3 AP dmg, 270 arc and vent 3. Can you say mobile firepower? Also, a plus for me at least is that it doesn't have a tricky SW-ish dial like a lot of the ELH units.
Cons:
Low attack values. The highest attack value in this army is 10 (on Lori Kyle's 6th and 7th click!) Lori Kyle is tricky to work with. The blades only have 10 clicks of life.
Units available to the Eridani Light Horse:
1. Raiden Battle Armor - 17 points
2. DI Morgan Assault Tank - 73 points
3. AgroMech Mk II MOD - 78 points
4. Lori Kyle - 160 points
5. Corporal Saturina Perara - 28 points
6. Jorges Koffler - 97 points
7. Sortek Assault Craft - 32 points
8. Blade - 138 points
9. Purifier Battle Armor - 13 points
10. Rifleman - 206 points
