As someone who has never voted for Orgins till now (and yes I have been aware of them and have seen the old print ballots)
I just couldnt vote for WK.
Attack is far better than CF or Indy clix,
Warmachine minis just rock,
And i dont play MK so i had no opinion on the tiles.
Why do I get the feeleing that WizTopps trying to tout their horn like this is backfiring?
it was tight but I voted for a game of thrones. It's funny the news section was to bring our attention to the voting but it seems like everyone is voting for any game other than WKs stuff. Ironic.
Actually, his quote was that the LI set had a specific issue - Liao was not supported enough in the set to be a 'full blown' faction.
Your first post implied that Draddog did not see Liao Incursion as a suitable nominee for the award. And your claimed 'point' is that Draddog's statement indicates he believes there are greater issues with the company.

Yeah okay...not even close

I voted for WizKids' products.
"Why?" the confused masses may be asking while scratching their heads and preparing to lynch the sensible Quid.
The answer is simple, I enjoy playing their games. When I go down to the local shop to play MechWarrior, I know that I will have a good time. When I bust out my collection so the my brother and I can play a friendly game (or try out some wicked competitive army ideas), I know I will have a good time. When I pull out my Crimson Skies figures for a small dogfight, I know I will have a good time.
Sure, their may be some issues with the rules. Sure, their may be some issues with the company itself. I don't care. None of those issues have interfered with my enjoyment of the game.
Maybe this is because I win more than I lose. Maybe this is because I can ignore the problems of the game and just have fun playing it.
I voted for WizKids' products because they make games that I enjoy playing.

You know, Liao not being able to form a faction on it's own for one set wouldn't have been such a big deal if it weren't for the fact that we've had almost exclusively Liao based campaigns for the last half year or more. When was the last campaign where I could play my DF or SW army in tournament faction pure? I've played DF pure in head to heads, but you definitely suffer from a disadvantage when people field the SH Aesir, SSw AIV, Liao Targe, and who knows what else.
You should try those three games that I mentioned because they are extremely fun to play and vastly superior to WKs stuff in every way.
I'm not challenging you in what you enjoy. But since it is a vote on the "best" boardgame. I had to vote for what IS the best boardgame. If you haven't tried those games it's hardly fair to vote I think. I myself actually own all those three games, really it was a hard choice between AoM and Game of Thrones.
But honestly Creepy Freaks? Indy Clix? Unless you play those games (not many people do) then a vote for WK product for the sake of it being WKs in the boardgame category is very biased.
Originally posted by Legerdemain The nascent Crimson Skies fanbase seemed pretty much dead on arrival due to whatever reason it was that held WK back from publicizing it more properly, but I wonder if their complaints revolve around the game system nearly as much as MechWarrior's do.
Those of us who play Crimson Skies think it has the best game mechanics of the various clix games. Strange how Creepy Freaks could be nomimated but not CS.
Angelius is right. It is not an accurate reflection of "best game" to vote simply for one company's products, no matter how much you like them or their other products. Creepy Freaks was hideous. I spent two days demoing it at Gencon last year and while kids were intrigued, I knew right away that no one was going to buy it. Not when they can buy Yu Gi Oh, Duel MAsters, etc. for cheaper.
As for the minis vote, WK minis are good, but Warmachine minis are better. Superior in fact. The game itself is very cool but the figs are awesome; so much better than WK and even better than GW ones (the GW ones I've built at least).
Blind allegience is never a true indicator of what are the best games available. I'm glad WK made us aware of this, if only so we could all get our votes in for some truly good games.
Originally posted by Legerdemain This is a serious problem. ...snip...
I just wonder if we might be able to pinpoint exactly where people seem to think things went wrong.

Is there anything that WK could possibly fix that would satisfy people or is the whole situation so tangled that the company shouldn't bother to try changing anything?
Even if anything changed, rules or otherwise, would anyone care anymore?
IMHO Wizkids screwed the pooch when they took a game that was advertised as a simple, "everything on the dial" game and started adding more complicated game dynamics.
Secondly, I think they were surprised by how well the game was received. I think they wanted to give everyone what they said they wanted, so they could sell, sell SELL! And in giving everyone everything, they forgot about "simple" and "everything on the dial." They let their fans dictate where their game went, and consequently we wound up with a dictionary-sized FAQ. Wizkids should have designed the game, and told everyone to play it as it was written. You don't like industrial mechs? Too bad. They are a part of the fiction (well, they started out to be anyway...). You don't like hoverbikes being able to capture? Too bad. That was the way the game was designed (in the beginning...). Etc, etc etc. Wizkids let this game be designed by a mob, and it's current condition reflects that.
Thirdly, by rushing to give everyone everything, play-testing suffered. Either not enough of it, not enough time for it, or not enough emphasis on listening to the playtesters... something in the playtesting system is broken. See the FAQ if you want to argue this point...
What should Wizkids do? IMHO they should split Mechwarrior into two games. MW:DA should be the original, simple, "everything on the dial" game it started out to be. Updates/expansions should occur once a year (at most) and only after playtesting every aspect of how it will integrate into the "simple" and "everything on the dial" game concept. The other game should be a more complicated game with all the different aspects of future warfare. Wizkids should STOP everything with Mechwarrior and redesign the game, playtest the heck out of it, and NOT listen to all the "what I want to see" whiners.
So, you asked and I answered. ;)

MW needs to go back to it's simple roots. By trying to fix the problems that they have created by making terribly undercosted relative to regular units. (Which should never happen in the first place) They have compounded the problems even more.
MW needs a remake to the degree that it is a simple game once again.
A wonderful example is playing HC, with the no duplicate rule. Heck playing faction pure in HC is even better. Actually let me restate that. MARVEL HC...
The game is so basic, and well balanced with the no dupes rule. (As well balanced as you can get) Instill a faction pure rule and wow we had the BEST tournament last week. 400pts faction pure. We had a FF team, JLA (it was open afterall), Xmen, Avengers...it was great.
I think the problem with MW is that WKs didnt see how complex multiple base types (Inf, Veh, Mech, Vtol, Art) would be.
Also the CBT fanboys basically wanted "realistic" battles. Which basically translated was "Make MW into CBT". Need I remind everyone that CBT is erm not realistic in the first place? This of course made MW into the Frankenstein of rules it is now.
WKs needs to overhaul everything. And banning (oops retirement) is not the solution. Because When FP comes out you're going to have a period of unbalance etc. No good. Terrible "quick fix".
They are trying to balance artillery (which ever rule version we are on today).
They are trying to keep us all calm about FP (the units will be neat and all really useable in tourney play).
They are trying to get us to buy MK relics when we only play MW.
They are trying to get us to vote for other MK games when we only play MW.
Well, WizKids walked away with 6 awards. Note that the awards mentioned above were only for the "Gamer's Choice" awards. Any other awards WizKids won were industry awards.
