Nope. The stats present in the TRO are all available when browsing through the available units in Megamek. If anything, you'd want a basic understanding of how the rules work in CBT, which would come from the BattleTech Master Rules (Revised).

Megamek has some TRO's in it and it's said that it will recognize HMpro files.
Knowing the rules is the big thing. You can get by without knowing them, but you will be at a big disadvantage.
One thing you need to remember with Megamek is that it functions kind of like chess. When moving be sure it's where you want to be and facing where you want. Once you hit the move button that move is set in stone.
for those of you wishing to recycle your MW-DA mini's for CBT usage.
1) go to you local copy store. UPS, Kinko's are a few that are workable. mind you it will costa fair bit of mony for these maps. but that is an investment as the maps with a littlecreativity can be used for -multiple- layouts.
2) have this copy store blow a single CBT mapboard up by 235% in full color. this will equate to about the size of your average kitchen table. this also allows you to utilize a) mechs, b) vehicles, c) infantry with out -any- alterations of their bases, and or stats and other such infor mation.
3) collect the various rulebooks! gather groups of friends who wish to learn, and play till you feel clensed of the clicky tech influences!
Adendum: eavh hex unthe the 235% blow up allows for enugh space to fit two mech bases (DFA attack) if over laped, a single un altered vehicle base, or three standard infantry bases.
It helps, but MM will also show the weapon load-out, armor, movement, etc. Its a lot harder to make custom mechs in MM, but is possible. I've never done it tho.
Check out MegaMek.net. It's the #1 place for MM stuff.
If you do not have a firewall, you can host games as well. If anyone needs help or wants a friendly game, PM here, and we can set something up.
Downloading and printing quick rules. I'll want all the good stuff though, including the most complicated rules, I'm sure. :)
The biggest hurdle probably is finding players truth be told. But I think I can get into this game much better than I could into MWDA. Just printing out the sheets makes me feel like I'm in the universe, vs. how I feel when I play MWDA, against mechless armies full of mixed factions and VTOLS swarming everywhere.
I'll definately look into blowing up the maps for MWDA figure use. That was the one thing I didn't look forward to. Painting Mechs. I'll paint terrain, just don't want to mess with Mechs. Takes Ninja like painting skills, I swear. Ninja painting. Anyways, I wonder if blowing up the map will make it horribly fuzzy.

All you need to do is find a few others that want to start playing and set up a monthly game in a local shop. Once you get people seeing the game being played, painted mechs, and the fun you'll be having your group will grow. The hard thing is keeping up the intrest.
Relax, anyone can paint a decent mech. It's not so much how well you paint but the fact that you make the attempt. And once you start to get some experience and learn the techniques you'll be turning out ones that are 100% better than the clicky ones.
I hate to break it to you but the up-scale maps I saw had some pixelation from being scaned up. It's not bad, and only really noticable on the woods and rough terrain.
I have been thinking of getting out of MWDA ever since I saw some people playing what looked like CBT with MWDA figs at Origins. It sounds like a great way to get some use out of all of my old MWDA stuff. Especially with set retirement - err rotation on the horizon. I would rather play CBT using enlarged maps or minis rules than play much more MWDA.
It is dead here which is unfortunate since it had so much promise.
