I ended up with a relatively short range, low defense army. Managed to pull Anima-Cave Lion in the first pack I opened. And in the same pack, I pulled a +1 atk pilot (would've liked the pilot for Lion, but eh), and Reactive Armor. And most of my opponents pieces were outranging me, but had 2 ballistic damage. Fortune smiled on me. I was the only one of the three to pull artillery, so that helped to keep mechs nice and hot. Highlander Hadur's are meaaan suckers.
:^^: JF hatchetman

SC undine ba
SC pal suit

master sgt. BR- M
decoy- L
albion military- L
SW/SH- sa
BR/SSW- sa
HL- fp
i used both the hatchetman mechs and the BR pilot card. the SC sekhmet(nice) and both SC infantry to round out the formation. believe it or not i won :) my dice rolls were great, my opponents not so much. had a great time and look farword to my next sealed event.
I pulled Aaron sandoval and two gear cards i could not use and two 6 point light pilots and i still managed by incredible luck to win our marquee event.
i had
JF mongoose w/ decoy 6 point pilot
BR mongoose with 6 point pilot
BR arty
HL 3 transport with two highlander gause rifles and HL inf.
HL attack apc with SH salamander.
with this i managed somehow to beat an Alpha army ,a milagro army ,and a two DF dasher SS valiant army. the last game took 22 minutes since he missed every charge.
it's better to be lucky once in a while huh.
Traffic was bad so I didn't get to the venue in time to play in the marquee but I bought my boosters anyway. I pulled Caber with Tara Campbell, Persuader with Trebor Ydek, and Twinkletoes. Best pull I've ever had and I didn't get to play with it.
True Grit
SH/HS Faction Pride
???? can not remember it
HK Rapid Strike
Decoy - Lt.
Armor Percing - Med.
Needless to say I whent 1-1 again since It seems Metalman232 beat me on VC 1 by a few points and VC 2 again by a few points. But thats what happens when you plunk a HL Ursa w/pilot & IT in the woods. Oh well there is always next time :classic:
I had good pulls - ended up using the following army and winning the marquee:
"Alpha" Mangonel 185
Imp. Targeting (Hvy) 44
Pilot Grad - Proserpina (Hvy) 9
"Bolt" Arbalest 105
SS Hadur FSV 46
SS Saxon APC 23
SH Towed Gauss Rifle 18
SS LRM Battery 17
447 pts total.
With the IT equipped and the 16" range, "Alpha" was the star of the show. The only light Mech pilot I pulled was the SW Star Captain which I couldn't put in Bolt,
and the only light Mech equipment I pulled was Decoy, which I couldn't fit in and stay within the point limit. So Bolt was limited to taking potshots at easy targets with its 8 attack and keeping opponents' attention off of Alpha. I lost Bolt in each of my first two games, and it was a click away from being salvaged in my third. In retrospect, I ought to have considered replacing Bolt with the SS Hanse MBT I pulled and then tried to fill the last 15 points. Still, can't knock success.
The only other unique I saw pulled at our marquee was Tormark's Nyx.
I had 8 at mine last night as well. Largest group we've ever had. I pulled off a win with this build...
DF Dasher II - 134
>Tamar Graduate - 10
SC Dasher II - 144
>SC Star Captain - 14
HL Hadur - 48
SW DI Morgan Assault Tank - 79
BR Towed Gauss Rifle - 19
-448
Didn't face any artillery so my TGR was safe for the majority of the game. It's interesting how much damage something will do when you know it's going to die and play accordingly. The Hadur was a godsend for putting the Morgan in its sweet spot and pushing enemy tanks/infantry into damaging themselves and pushing 'mechs to shutdown. The Dashers were sub-par in the defense department, but I never gave the enemy the opportunity to shoot first, unless it was at the DF varient whilst occupying hindering. My last round was against someone who never played the game before. Pulled Milagro/Decoy/Proserpina and played Dust Storm every round (per sealed tournament rules). If he was more aggressive I probably would have lost. Ended up killing his second 'mech (JF Hatchetman) and spent the rest of the game running away from Milagro. Out of all 3 games, I only lost the TGR in each game.
@Trevor
Those HS/SH Ursas are pretty decent in sealed. I fielded Alpha in a sealed and decided it was a bad idea after realizing that I didn't have artillery to put her in her sweet spot.
Well this was the first Marquee that I have played in in a while and my first tourney since last fall sometime. I pulled and played with the following.
2 HL Valiants
1 HL Fenrir Battle Armor
1 HL Pathfinders
1 BR Pathfinders
1 SC Fenrir Battle Armor
1 SH MHI Hawk Moth Gunship
1 SW MHI Hawk Moth Gunship
2 Double Rate Ballistic Equipment Cards
2 Graduate Certificates
for a total of 450
The Valiants with the Armor piercing and Double Rate just absolutely rocked, one would hit its opponent then the next for a total of 8 damage in one round and with the evade they were able to keep from getting damaged pretty easily by getting the heck out of doge when they needed to. Man those double rate cards are gold man A couple of assault mechs with double rate on them dang it would be devastating. Anyways I went 3-0 with a total of 9 VC's for all three matches, one other person went 3-0 but only had a total of 8 VC's so I won Champion and took the E.O.D. Battlemaster.

The point defense is what really made the Steiner Ursa valuable in my winner's army. He used it to keep Alpha's defense at 21 throughout the game and was lucky enough not to face an opponent with artillery. I'm thinkin' Aiko in the SH Ursa could be pretty valuable... kind of a better LI Shockwave.
SW Uziel - no pilot (The only Med pilot I pulled was a *DF* one)
"Nyx" - Albion Graduate (great to have Katana Tormark's Mech....and no
Katana...thanks guys)
DF Mongoose - Albion Graduate
SS DI Multipurpose VTOL (my second )
HL Hawk Moth VTOL
I pulled such other useless things as:
SS Gun Nest (my second)
SW LRM Battery (my second)
SS Faction Pride (my second, and all of *2* SS units)
SS/BR Situational Alliance (my second, and not a single BR unit to be found)
DF Lance Corporal pilot (and not a DF Medium Mech to be found)
DF Pathfinders - and their 4" range flamers, 6" move and short dial.
Mechanical Repair Gear Card - my second, and the biggest waste of
points card-wise
Pulse /Light - my second, and too expensive to equip to a light Mech.
The only useful others I pulled were:
JF Fenrir
JF Undine
DF JI2A1
They were passed over for the lack of viable formations and the fact that I was facing constant artillery.
And I faced:
1. SS Thunderfox (with Reflective Armor) + "Nyx" (there were two pulled)
(with Evade) + DF Hadur + SS Gun Nest, DF Gun Nest, SW LRM Battery
2. "Big Bertha" and Adam Stark + JF Hadur + SS Sekhmet + DF Gun Nest +Dust Storm PC
3. Duke Aaron Sandoval in a SS Thunderfox in Hindering Terrain (24
Defense to ranged) + SS Hadur + SC Sekhmet + JF Hanse + DF Gun Nest +
SC Pathfinders + Swamp PC
....in that order. I won the first two, and loss the last. My tactic had less to do with eliminating the opposition, and more with not getting whacked. I would kill what I had to to secure VC1, sneak in some VC3, and spent the rest of the time scurring around until I shut down (which happened at least twice a game). It was a dirty win when I got one, but the best I could pull of with the dross I pulled.
I was able to parley my second place finish into aquiring "Alpha", but I still
need Anastasia Kerensky to pilot it....and no one appears willing to part with her.
