Not so sure. It's comparable to the European werewolf in that it afflicts a person and transforms them into some sort of beast while it possess him. The beast may possibly have some similarities or basis from wolves, so howling is possible. Just keep in mind that it's a big, shaggy, wild, vicious, devouring cannibal spirit that eats people up.
As for the Wendigo 'mech, I'd rather think of it being named after the Wendigo for its ferocity in battle, rather than for any other spiritual or mythological reason.
So, we have 2 monsters as mechs. Funky :). Well, I'll hopefully be back in England to enjoy this set when it comes out. Now, if only we can get more pics and start the sneak peeks....
Look at the legs and feet, and you'll see that that's not the case. (Unfortunately, the link to the smaller pic, that made the difference more obvious, seems to be gone now for some reason.) Anyway, the Shadow Cat is your traditional chicken-walker; the thing in the lower right appears to be a man-walker, with broader feet than the Shadow Cat.
The cockpit is similar, but as has been pointed out, so is that of the Cizin -- thus implying that this is trait of Nova Cat equipment. Hence my supposition that this is, in fact, the Wendigo. That, or the sculptor for Annihilation became obsessed with a particular cockpit style for some reason... ;)
The small pic to the bottom right is clearly a standard biped, not a chicken-walker, so it can't be the Shadow Cat.
It is most likely the Wendigo, as mentioned in the text.
Further, from what little I can actually see, it looks a lot like the Sunder Battlemech from CBT and the Virtual World centers. Large missile rack in the middle . . . low-slung cockpit . . . man-type legs . . . and big laser arms.
My bet is that Clan Nova Cat created a Clan-tech version of the Sunder for their own use. The Sunder was, after all, an early Kuritan Omnimech design. The Cats have simply re-named it "Wendigo."
@Ravenankh. Odds are those are just medium lasers, not large. A mech of that tonnage would not do well to be firing off 2 ER Large AND a PPC in a single volley. So I doubt the damage output would be anywhere near the Nova Cat. As it should be. Best guess is it'll have 2 or 3 energy damage (probably one or two target) out to 14".
I never said they were ER Large! That would be insane (not to mention the heat). I'm thinking either ER Medium or Medium Heavy lasers. Given that the Shadow Cat prime was equipped with a Gauss and 2 ER Medium lasers, I assume that the Gauss was swapped out for an ER PPC, possibly a flamer and more heatsinks and armor.
I would definately assume a damage value of no more than 3. Anything more would be too much with a pulse gear for mediums. Range would be either 14" or 16".
Secondary would either be flamers like the Nova Cat, or a close combat value. (I'd love to put agility on one of these!)
Speed should be at least an 8. 9 or 10 would be better. These things had MASC in CBT and could go 130km/h! Jump Jets are a must.
Attack should be 9 or 10, with IT or command to simulate the Active Probe.
Defense should be 19-20.
Heat dial should be typical SC/NC type... Yellow rolls late in the dial.
The more I look at it, yeah, thats probably a Wedigo in the corner... And possibly on the cover of Heretic's Faith. Maybe it'll be Cox Devalis' new mech!
Actually the 2 variants of the Nova Cat that I play with a lot in MW4:Mercs have dual ER PPCs and either dual C UAC5s or C LBX-10 ACs. I also run w/passive sensors quite often.
What in blazing hellfire is a wendigo? And when will we get a craqck at a first look
of this new Mech? Furthermore, I wish they get on with the sneeky-
peeks. 'Cause the more I hear about Annihilation, the more I want it. When will
those start up, and have they set a date and time for them?
Wendigo is an inuit legind that roughly translates into what we call the "Abominal Snowman" Basicly it is a man like creature who goes around hunting eskimo's. It became what it was because it was a starving man who was forced to resort to canabalisim.
In Mechassault 2 The Wendigo was a variant of the Nova Cat. It packed two ER PPCs and a trio of Ultra 5 Autocannons, making it a potent mix of the Primary and Charlie configuration.
I never said they were ER Large! That would be insane (not to mention the heat). I'm thinking either ER Medium or Medium Heavy lasers. Given that the Shadow Cat prime was equipped with a Gauss and 2 ER Medium lasers, I assume that the Gauss was swapped out for an ER PPC, possibly a flamer and more heatsinks and armor.
in the picture, it is a shadowcat in its stock config. 2 lasers on the right arm, and a gauss on the left. The gauss trail has rings around it, like how gauss rifles fire in computer games.
