Origins is the weekend of July 4th in Columbus, Ohio.
Post counts are not the number 1 consideration for who will and won't be accepted. We're looking, basically, for people who have made significant contributions to the Realms, whether through Forums or other avenues. This tournament is a reward for those people. With that in mind, it's not how many posts you make, but how many QUALITY posts you make that matters.
If you're not selected for this year's tournament, then think about what will get you invited to next year's tournament, since I'd like to make this an annual event. It's also possible that we'll run MKRealms-sponsored events at other Cons, but I am only going to run this particular format at Origins.
Anyways, although we're going to limit this to a few invitees, I'm going to declare that Fridya night is MKRealms Night at Origins. Anyone who is NOT selected to participate in the tournament should drop by to watch the events, and if we get enough people I'm happy to run some kind of informal tournament for the non-invitees. You'll still get to play some other Reamlsers, and meet and greet all the people you're heard about.
So don't be afraid to submit your application. Everyone who doesn't make it will be an alternate, and if I get enough alternates, there will be a secondary tournament.
If anyone going to origins has to drive through iowa to go there I would like to request a ride. Just immagine all that time that will fly by having someone in the car to talk about mage knight and the realms with. If I can get a ride I'll put in my resume.
Hey Harry, I was just about to contact you. It seems that anything near the con is well over $100 a night...and full. I found a few that were a little ways away, like one that was 2.8 miles away for about $45 bucks a night. W'd have to rent a car, but with the motel price difference we'd still save money over the motels near the convention center. Airfair is currently about $210 RT. I think I'm going to do it, so let me know quickly if you want in. It'll probably cost you less than $40 a day combined car/motel.
I'm relatively new to the game and the Realm itself, so I dont really have a chance to go to this, much less heard of it before the post. It sounds really cool though. Just wondering though; what if the players accepted dont have the figures on the list? I started out with dungeons so I dont have many of the older figs. Just wondering about that, thanks.

Max
I hope you can attend Gencon because I would like to at least have a shot at playing (if selected) seeing that I can only afford is gencon. I know I am probably not worthy to get in though but it is always worth a shot :) if you run it at gencon
I look forward at seeing how this turns out at Origins and I hope that you give us a nice overview of how it all goes.
I'd love to play in this event--the format looks great. I certainly don't claim to have made great contributions to the Realms, but I'll play if you'll have me. If you go with a preset figure list, will you post it in advance to people can build armies in advance and not bring all their figs? I also really like Bshugg's "#### draft" suggestion, by the way.
This format is geared towards experienced players who have most or all of the figures. That's the reason it's an invitational tournament and not an open tournament for all MKRealms players. While I'd love to say that anyone can play, this tournament is pretty restrictive. For those who can't play, I hope you'll get just as much entertainment by coming out to watch the players who do play.
Quark,
I'm doubtful for Gen Con, this year at least, but if the tournament goes over well I'm sure we can arrange for somebody to run a similar tournament at Gen Con.
JM,
I will be releasing the 150-figure list in a day or two. However, this is NOT a constructed format, so you won't have a chance to pre-build your armies. You won't know which figures will be available for each phase, so you won't be able to playtest an army and be guaranteed that all the figures in that army will be available. What you can do is playtest cominations of figures, and if those combinations appear on the final list, you'll have a good idea of what to use.
I think what I'll do is allow roughly half the figures on the list to be available for Phase 1 and half the figures to be available for Phase 2. That way if you bring a figure, you are guaranteed that it will be available for one of the 2 phases. If you bring all 20 of the KI units, for example, roughly half of them will be available for each phase. But you won't know which until 15 minutes before the tuornament, when you need to start working on your army.
Also, I will allow players to borrow figures from other players or spectators. I want to allow everyone to have as many options as possible without forcing them to drag their entire collection of figures with them. Another thing to mention is that you cannot use doubles of any figure on the list, so at most you only have to bring one of each figure.
stafford- Typhon will be in charge of MKRealms events at DragonCon. Atlanta is his hometown, Columbus happens to be mine.
Maximillion, I have purchased airfare, rented a car and only need to reserve the hotel I picked out during lunch. So I'll be happy to submit a "resume" in order to earn my invite. Since I need to start registering for events tonight, what time are you planning on running yours. Forgive me if you've already answered this, but I'm at work and it's too busy to read throught he entire thread. CIAO!
It'll be from 1-9 or from 6-12, or something like that, on Friday. If we do 1-9, there will be a break for dinner, and breaks in between rounds to rest a bit. I'd prefer to do that, so we get lots of rounds in. That way there's less ambiguity about who wins the thing, and there's less importance on winning each game.
Having been to Origins a couple of times, and having visited Columbus many more times than that, there are PLENTY of places to stay in town that won't break your wallet. There's a Microtel up on the north side of town that was dirt cheap (like $40/night) that I'll probably be staying at again this year... only drawback is that it's about a 20 minute drive downtown to the Hyatt.
I've also stayed at Cross Country Inn many times. A little bit more expensive, but there are many of them all over town.
