OrcMage, I don't think you are stupid cause you actually posted how the striker could win. But your post agreed with my orginal post cause everytime the tormentor moves close enough to base the striker w/o getting popped the striker will move back. Sooner or later someone is gonna have to take a gaint leap of faith; if it come down to my fully healthly tormentor vs a fully healthly striker I'd do the only thing that would give me a chance, I'd move into range and pray that he misses or I make dodge. Even if nether happens now I have charge 5" if I remember correctly. It would be close and come down to luck and who screwed the up the worst and yes I don't agree with you but because you posted reasons that could allow the striker to win I respect your oponion. I got upset cause of people making mistakes like striker has bound so he wins or dodge only works a quarter of the time. I just would like some intelligent disscussion rather then striker! no tormentor! etc.
i would have to go with tormenter because he can simply pass the first turn of his and wait for the striker to move within the tormenters movment range and now its screwed because even if it does get that i belive 60-70 percent chance of hitting the tormenter(ppl seem to forget about the defense) the attack would have been a push (he could flee but then you just wait and get off the movment and start over until A. he misses the breakaway or B. he pushes himself to much) but now in the case that he attacks the tormenter can still attack to an extent but its still in trouble
The Tormentor is at it's best when it is in base contact with the opposing figure which means it has to be the aggressor. It would be a long battle but in the end the Striker wins.
Fair point, must confess I would get a bit irritated if my opinion was answered with, "You're wrong", full stop.
Kind of kills conversation.
Cheers mate
Regards
Orc Mage
The Tormentor can get within b2b range at 14" while the Striker is unable to shoot it, when they are both healthy. The Tormenter can wait for the Striker to make the first move in to range, before going b2b with the Striker; causing the Striker to take a risk of pushing to attack against dodge.
Moreover, even if the attack suceeds, the Tormentor still has venom, which means the Tormentor needs an average roll of 7 to deal 5 dmg to the striker while it is pushed (4 from a suceesful hit and 1 from venom the turn after), the striker is then almost dead.
If we take the Striker to be in the bound slots. The Striker now needs a 7-8 instead of a 6 to hit the tormentor not inclusive of the dodge factor, dispite the fact that the striker can get the first hit, luck plays a major factor here. If dodge suceeds it's the abovementioned. However if dodge fails, the Tormentor has an uphill task ahead, with it's lack of range and dmg prevention slots, i.e. toughness, plus it's an action behind in attackiong the striker.
All in all, this is only a 1-1 comparision. The actual result would depend on dice rolls, support troops and the tactical positioning to win the whole game. MK is not about 1-1 biggy battles, but the whole picture.
if tormenter got the first move he could win... but its all luck with dodge, i usually roll high with one die... we need a draconum or solonavi with limited invisibility :)
why do ppl still say one word that gets really annoying when you don't say anything you ppl have to much trust in the striker just because it has range that
Don't forget the bound capability of the striker. I agree with Runabout, toughness is more reliable than dodge, and the striker os cheaper by a couple of points, meaning it would be easier to fit.
As it turns out, I went to my figs and pulled out the Tormentor and Striker and placed them on the table. Nothing happened. They seemed to be non-aggressive figures. So I threw the Tormentor at the Striker and the Striker got pissed off and rolled around for a while and fell off the table. However, the Tormentor also fell off the table and on to it's head. I conclude the battle to be a tie.
