alright, the thing isn't even out yet and here comes the confusing situational questions ...
1) If you miss .. it's gone? I don't know off hand the wording of rule but is "resolving the attack" the inital roll or the dealing of any damage?
.. so, if you miss it's gone?
2) Calvery unit is two figures considered one unit ..
Okay I just hit them .. Do both rider and mount lose spcl abilities?
.. if so ..
and I dismount ..
(thus eliminating the single unit targeted) do they as individual figures gain them back?

1) An attack is resolved when it is done, whether it hits or misses. So, if you miss, it's gone.
2) The Dark Rider's FAQ has removed the phrase that makes them a single unit. So, only the one you target loses the special abilities.
I'm thinking Warlord Ahzan on a Technocat with the Oracular Codex, and Tezlaraptor flying through the skies with Agony, waiting for the right moment to strike. Larger than 300 point game, of course :) This one is powerful, but it's for fun games. Lots of 300 point competitive armies don't field any single piece that is a worthy enough target for a relic that is 10% of your build total cost.
ArcaneZkl and Veloxiraptor, thanks for explaining, I was sooo confused. Actually I thought you guys may have been saying that when I was thinking about it later, but I never came back to check. And I do agree with the both of you.
Wow I never actually read it that way, but it sounds like you could. Imagine using this on a figure who is loaded with SAs...that would eliminate so many potential threats to you....
Think about a conquest match, get rid of those pesky archers with their arcing fire, make them actually get some LOS with you. Or better yet those few figures that have arcing fire and overwatch, you would nearly severly hurt the ranged potential of your opponent. Wow...so many SAs to get rid of, but only one little relic...
 Sigh, we're already going to need a FAQ entry on this to clarify it, otherwise people are going to actually do that kind of thing in a tourney. That's the problem with using text on cards...
