Originally posted by jgklaw WK, one more thing, Soaring figures whose flight cup touches an elevated CT should be able to attack a figure on top of the CT. That's one more FAQ we need to see!!!
I don't think so. There is enough "errata" in the FAQ without adding more just for color purposes. It's not broken, so no need to "fix" it.
A someone who has (ab)used Rage Hammer from day 1, I would like to say.......
Thank you.
The changes to K-Bow, Maul and Hammer were sorely needed to ensure the continued competitiveness of MK. I played Hammer heavy armies in part because the fact that it slowed down Maul/BoL was a nice side effect of a relic that matched my playstyle (fast and bloody).
This is going to drastically change the way people build armies. At the last tourney I played in, out of 5 players, there were 3 Hammers (two Pikes and an Ironwolf) and 1 Maul (Caldera/Turbo-Maul build) and suicide K-Bow gets played around here with some regularity as well, so everyone is going to need to re-think army design. I for one will be glad to not feel compelled to use multiple healers as a defense against "take 2".
None of the changes surprise me at all, in all honesty. I might not have predicted some of the specifics but, it didn't really startle me to see the Hammer take a hit at the same time as the Maul, as well as the change to MB/Overwatch. I also think that the CT change is good, because now you cannot "hide" up on a Watchtower.
I think about the only thing we didn't see in this FAQ was the elimination of Deep Water as tourney legal terrain, and I was 90% sure that was going to happen, based on sigma's comments on the WK site. Oh well, looks like we'll be seeing deep water abusive combo's for awhile, but at least those can be handled by Domains....

This change isn't an FAQ issue, so you won't see it in the FAQ. It's a tournament issue, so you'd see it in an update to the tournament rules. sz13 has implied we can expect it, but since there isn't a standard time frame for tournament rules updates, it's hard to say when it'll happen (of course, it's likely they want the change before Worlds).
was deep water such a problem?? did the top 4 armies use deep water??
also DBlizzard, with all due respect, my suggestion about letting Soaring figs attack figs on top of CT was not just for "color" purposes. It's a change that makes sense...
I agree with all of these mainly storm maul and rage hammer.

Storm Maul was too strong, but I think they were a bit extreme about it. Now it's horribly overcosted.
this is coming from a player that the only reason they could have made it to 4th in nats. i don't have to use relics like sm or rage hammer to win because i am not afraid losing if i win i win if i lose i lose.
I have to say that these are really welcomed by all, and also I feel no sadness for the over-nuking of Storm Maul.
Just think of how many relics are fairly bad or way too specialized. Nobody talks about how Heartsinger was nuked because it's always been underused(if you used at all).
I like all relics being on the same level of "badness", or if you're optimistic, "goodness".
Anyway, awesome, definitely a little confidence booster for me about Wizkids. Kudos.

I think it's more a principle issue. The ability to put almost any unique in Deep Water is a time bomb waiting to happen. They can only be based by figures with Aquatic or the wave movement type.
This was never an issue before because there was a finite number of figures that could be in deep water. Also, all of the figures were, for the most part subpar. Even those that weren't, were not really suited to sitting in water and being useful.
Now, you can put all sorts of things in water. Put Deathspeaker Aederon in Deep Water with the Necromantic Bonestaff. Admittedly, it's hugely expensive. However, it's very powerful for it's point cost. There are certainly many, many other combos that could be come up with.
Still, right now the point is theoretical because the change hasn't been made yet.
hmm, Deep Water only seemed troubling at all because of Storm Maul (Relaphon in DW with SM)...unless there are lots of powerful spells that can be cast anywhere on the board in Sorcery, then Deep Water isn't a problem because you can't effectively strike from it, or if you can, it's very costly to do so...I still don't see why it needs to be eliminated, unless there are combos in Sorcery that would "break" it.
Aside from the Relaphon Storm Maul combo, which no longer works, is there any reason at all to fear deep water (in MK, hehehe)?? Stick any figure you want to hide in it, who cares? Aeradon in Deep water with Bonestaff...I'd love to fight that!!!! I can't even think of an army so bad that I could possibly lose to that with...:)
I think the only deep water combo that was truly abusive was Magus Relaphon/Storm Maul/Potion of Water Breathing. You basically had to have a figure in your army with Invulnerability and a Potion of Water Breathing if you wanted to attack and damage her. Anything that severely limits your options for competitive army building is a bad thing for this game, in my mind.
THERE IS A GOD! BE IT BUDDHA, JAWEH, OR THE ARTIST FORMERLY KNOWN AS PRINCE! These have all been the basis of armies that beat me where I more or less didn't even STAND A CHANCE IN HELL, I am grateful that the dice will get some rolling and I won't be insta-killed by a maul wielding psychopath with 14in range. SOOOO HAPPY I HAVE JUST WET MYSELF. The integrity of the game has just been saved, and BoL will make a nice return hehe, at least there are plenty of ways around THAT. Good job WK!!!
Originally posted by jgklaw PK, you read the new FAQ right, so this one combo is gone... you would agree then, no change to Deep Water...
I'd bet on it. Not because of anything as powerful as the Magus Relphon/Storm Maul/Potion of Water breathing combo though.
As someone pointed out, bring 4 pieces of Deep Water terrain. You can guarantee place two (and can probably keep them on the board with proper counter domains to Blasted Lands) in strategic locations. Now play Khan Rava with the Potion of Water Breathing. Just bound from Deep Water to Deep water terrain without fear of being based and tied up.
Sure, it's not undefeatable. However, it's very tough and probably at the level of the Karrudan's Bow in dominance of a particular game.

The top army used it. I used it in sealed when I pulled Morathai and it allowed me to go 4-0 in that part of nats. It is really useful be unable to be based by anything without aquatic or wave speed type. It certainly allowed him to win the final game easily. If I could have based his salamander, then I could have ignored it and gone after his storm maul with my cav unit. Of course, he would have fielded a different army if that were the case.
Most of us realized that changes needed to be made long before nats. I played submerged Blackguard/k-bow in constructed tournaments before ever going to nationals. I was entirely unsurprised, to see Storm Maul, submerged K-bow, and lots of rage hammer at nats. The only big surprise occurred when I heard about submerged storm maul and the MC/C terrain bounce. Those were both clever variants on the above tactics. I think Wizkids needed to see it for themselves and I'm glad they did. :)
I feel really bad if this many people have had so much trouble with Storm Maul. As Kalel said it really wasn't that hard to beat Storm Maul the way it was. I wouldn't mind the change if they would just lower the point cost a bit. I guess the main reason I am angry is that I traded for that relic right before they posted this. LOL I always have bad luck though so I guess I shoulda saw it coming.
