I actually think that GB-DS was the best choice. Putting it on any of the next gen consoles would have spelled almost certain doom. For one, the graphics would have to be boosted way beyond what it is now.
Honestly this is mostly a niche game that will appeal greatly to a small portion of the general video gaming population. Much like Shining Force was a great game, it still was never as popular as say...Ridge Racer. To further this point, ask the average video gamer how many stategy sims they can name, and then ask them how many racing or fighting games they can name. Look at the commercials on tv for video games and how many of them are actually for strategy sims? Or for that matter RPG's? Yeah, there's final fantasy...and? Even puzzle games are taking a backseat now.
The DS, and Gameboy as a whole for that matter, is where you will find the niche games. That's where the hidden jewels are goin to be found.
Finally, I'd just like to say that with the proper set-up, you can still bring your GB-DS to a local shop and have tournies, much like we did with tabletop MK.
(Looking at the adapter stuff, though, you'll still need to have your PC connected at high-speed via DSL or Broadband; the USB adapter just makes it so you don't have to have a Wireless connection or a Wireless router)
One important element that I'm not sure has been concentrated on enough here is the interface with the game. Tactical games that do not follow a standard grid format (ex. Final Fantasy Tactics has a grid, whereas Aliens vs. Predator did not) typically do not do well because of the controls being so difficult to manage without a mouse-like system. The DS has a touch screen that you could use to manipulate units, etc., which you would not get on a PS2 or X-box. The exposure to Nintendo's sudden flare of wi-fi connectedness is really outstanding also.
Imagine groups of people bringing their NDS's to the venue to play MK again.
I just hope more people have Dsīs so that over here u could bring ur DS On all the time and chat and have a game anyitme....its connectivity is awesome!!!
I kind of doubt they'd go with voice communications on this round of games. Especially given the abuse voice chat systems have been given in other online games. Do you really want to hear an 8 year old cursing and calling you gay when you're playing?

It's better than the occasional pot leaf or human genitalia drawn emblems that can be seen on Mario Kart DS sometimes. At least you can turn off the volume.
So, you can expect to only get your "Storm Golem" (or whatever it is on 2.0) after playing through the whole game and have SEVERAL units as 'hidden chars" that you have to do crazy stuff to unlock....
Not that it is bad, its just that it can get in the way of multiplayer.
yeah, but what about all of us big people that can't cough up the dough for a DS? :) I like the old method better. I could sell my uniques and pay for my case...then proxy them all if I want to (Mini cheat codes!).

1.On the bright side, they are selling the old GB players ultra cheap, at least where I have seen them.
