Thanks stjohn. Btw, just a tip/advice: it is redundant to bring two (2) Arc Lightning spells in the same spellbook. After you cast the spell, you place the card face down on top of the pile. You use a special action to browse it and then you can immediately place Arc Lightning back as your bookmarked spell.

NOTE I forgot trix's point total, I could go check it but then I'd have to refigure my points, So if its less then bleh, if its more (Which I know it isnt) take out imp. (and replace with Podo if its only 2 points difference)
My conquest army would probably include:
Vithzerai
(s) Rivvenguard archer
Jardeen
Mask of mysteries
Tempest Priest
Dragonflame
Arcane Sight
Ward of light
priestess Kess
2 spell books
fathom
Scroll of storms
....
Basically anything i can think of....
oh yeah...
there has to be at least two figs with command and
a whole lot of Solonavi Shades to copy with!!
First of all, thanks to everyone who took the time to submit their 1,200 point army. Second, the secret respectable Realmer that knew about my army 3 weeks beforehand was none other than our beloved MK rules arbitrator Sigmazero13.
Ok, time to unveil my 1,200 point Conquest army:
Deathspeaker Aeradon 213
w/ Apprentice Folio 12
- Swarm of the Darned (6)
- Centaur’s Gait (3)
Imp* 5 x 59 295
Tempest Priest* 29
w/ Mask of Mysteries 40
Lady Rowan 75
w/ Teachings of the True Way 36
- Dragonflame (12)
- Fumble (6)
- Word of Refusal (6)
Kenaz Stoneheart 99
w/ Book of Lightning 60
w/ Cloak of Shadow 8
Tempest Priest** 34
w/ Tome of Brass 33
- Dragonflame (16)
- Disbelieve (4)
- Arcane Sight (4)
River Charger*** 43
on EF Horned Stag 47
Salamander 32
w/ Cloak of Martyr 27
w/ Cloak of Shadow 8
Whelp Alchemist*** 29
Pain Wraith* 27
Shyft Summoner** 51
Total 1,198 points
I would scatter 3 hindering/concealing terrains throughout the 4x6 battlefield.
The deployment set up would be the Whelp Alchemist would stand on the left side of the table and 16 inches away from the Alchemist would be Lady Rowan. Lady Rowan would be in base contact with the Tempest Priest. And also in base contact with the Priest would be the Pain Wraith, Kenaz Stoneheart, River Charger/Horned Stag, Salamander, and a standard Tempest Priest. In between them would be the 59 Imps. Salamander w/ Cloak of Martyr would be facing Lady Rowan and Deathspeaker Aeradon. The Shyft Summoner would be on the right side of the table.
Aeardon would cast Swarm of the Darned on himself, Salamander takes damage from Cloak of Martyr. Rowan would cast Dragonflame, killing 59 Imps, Salamander takes damage from Cloak. Since Aeradon is at full health, I apply 59 damage to any of my opponent’s figures without damage reduction abilities.
According to Conquest rules: "Glyphs and Illusions which affect figures without being restricted by range instead affect only figures within 24” of the caster’s center-dot. Items which are not restricted by range instead affect only figures within 24” of the wielder’s center-dot."
Swarm of the Darned (Sotd) is an enchantment spell, therefore it is not affected by the 24-inch radius Conquest restriction.
I would distribute the 59 damage first to all my opponent’s healers and sorcerers with spellbooks or with high counterspell rolls. But I won’t finish all of them off if their dials will show Demoralized. After that, distribute the damage to any key figures. Any figure I killed, I can deal another +1 damage courtesy of SotD. At the end phase, all Demoralized warriors are eliminated, so I can deal another X amount of damage to opposing figures.
Later on, the MoM strike force would go to any concealing/hindering terrain (within 24 inches) and if there’s possible target, Kenaz would use Book of Lightning or Rowan/Priest** would cast two Dragonflames. Pain Wraith would revenant anything useful, preferably something with Sweep or Smite.
Back at camp, if there are some actions left, Aeradon and the Summoner (on its second click) summon some Imps and move them to the Whelp Alchemist (who also has moved nearer to Aeradon’s side). Alchemist shockwaves the Imps.
Scenario 1
What if there was a very high counterspeller with Deny or Word of Refusal on the opponent’s army?
That is one of the weaknesses of this army. Let’s say I was counterspelled. Thanks to Salamander’s Cloak of Martyr, Aeradon can browse on one turn and cast it again on the next turn without pushing. Since the opponent’s army is very far away, I have the luxury of trying to cast it again and again. But to be fair, Aeradon is hard to counterspell in the first place with his 12 attack value. Aeradon’s average counterspell roll would be around 18-19. If worse comes to worse (Aeradon cannot cast it), the MoM strike force would have to engage the enemy prematurely with the ultimate goal of injuring the opponent’s counterspeller.
Scenario 2
What if you succeed on your Swarm of the Darned but Rowan’s Dragonflame was counterspelled?
That is what the Whelp Alchemist is there for. The Imps would flock around the Alchemist. The Whelp shockwaves everyone for 1 damage, demoralizing the weak Imps and killing them at the end of my turn. Last time I checked, the 5-inch radius of the Alchemist can hit around 40+ normal-sized figures.
Scenario 3
What if the opponent has Disenchant?
Well, if my SotD pushed through, chances are the opposing sorcerer with Disenchant is already dead. Majority of the spellcasters don’t have any damage reduction abilities. As a precaution, Rowan has Word of Refusal, just for this kind of scenario.
Of course, this army would be royally screwed if majority of the opponent’s army had Toughness or if he won initiative and cast Mechanoid on himself. But the latter is manageable (especially if I would bring Disbelieve) but the former (majority-has-Toughness army), my MoM strike force would have to be at their A-game applying guerilla tactics of hit-and-run.
Now, let’s take a look at all submitted armies and how I think it would fare against my army.
Dangerous army if there were no spells involved. Alment Lan and Anendu are great counterspellers but the law of average is on my side. Anendu and Alment Lan’s average counterspell roll is 17-18 while Aeradon’s average counterspell roll is 18-19. Once SotD is cast, first to die (or demoralized) would be Anendu and Alment Lan, then the Blood Shaman, Masked Shaman, and Crystal Protector. MoM strike force will go nearby, Kenaz w/ BoL shoots every turn, Salamander takes damage. When opportunity arises, MoM strike force will move again and cast 2 Dragonflames to a swarm of orcs.

centaurs gait
hand of glory
archers aim
***hierramon priestessX5
**rivvenguard archerX5
**snow centaur(ram, quickness)X10
*high elf warriorX9
high elf general
Good swarm army but no consideration for whatever the enemy will bring. No counterspelling threat at all. 59 damage spread throughout (probably settle for neutering all your bounder’s Bound clicks and Centaur’s Ram clicks), MoM strike force will show up later and cast two Dragonflames.
locoghoul
Gaunt w/ Inferno and MSB
Tymara os Korgas w/ Crown of Khamsin
on Skydancer
** War Bard w/ Spirit Armor
** Zombie Baron w/ Item Folio
- Death Throes
** Solonavi Channeler w/ Codex of Light
- Hunter's Luck
- Disbelieve
- Disenchant
- Lightning Palm
*** Khamsin Surgeon on ** Desert Warbird (BPR) x2
*** Vengeful Ghost x 6
** Rivvenguard Archer x 3
** Amazon Huntress
*** Dark Crusader
** Blackwing
* Grimlin x 4
Zombie Baron’s 13 attack value would give it an average counterspelling roll of 17-18 while Aeradon has 18-19. First to die (or demoralized) will be the Baron, then the Channeller, then the healers. Eliminating the BPR riders would also cause their skittish mounts to run away. Dealing a mere 2 clicks of damage to locoghoul’s Grimlins would cost it to be demoralized.
TheReaper8

kenaz stoneheart-1043
-tome of weirding
-fumble
-disenchant
-disbelieve
Cindrata
-scythrian quarterstave
Great BPR-themed army, though it would have been more convenient on my part if you stuck to your original plan and have Kenaz wield BoL instead of a spellbook. Cannot hurt Kenaz due to his Toughness. Rowan will bookmark Word of Refusal at the beginning of the game. Will just kill Cindrata first, then neuter the eight Forgemages or damage the two Hill Giants. MoM strike force shows up (stays away a good 16 inches away from the Giants) to Dragonflame the Forgemages and possibly Kenaz too. My Kenaz w/ BoL will shoot TheReaper8’s Kenaz.
Cool dragonslayer army. Highest counterspeller is Syrthyn with a 12 attack value, giving him an average counterspell roll of 16-17. Once my SotD pushes through, Channeler, Valantis, Trix, and Tovak will be the first to die. Will not damage Srythyn because 1.) it has Invulnerability on its second click and 2.) will gain Magic Healing (I do not want him to heal Kaznak when I attack the Orc dragonslayer later). Whaever is remaining, deal damage to the rear section of the Polar Ice Dragon. MoM strike force will show up but at least 24 inches away from the Polar Ice Dragon and target Kaznak with BoL or Dragonflame. Revenant Trix later to finish off Kaznak. Revenant Kaznak later and attacks the front section of the MDF. Valantis and Tovak will enter the fray again and finish off the Polar Ice.

Nice first-time conquest army, ODJN7. Alas, once my SotD is cast, it’s game over.
Wicked evil army. Whatever I kill (which is going to be hard considering the mage spawns involved) will be brought back later to full health. Vo’kara and Malava each have 12 attack value, giving them a 16-17 average counterspell roll. The Drakona Majoris would be the frist to die, next are the no-damage reduction mage spawns. Maybe also damage Domina to the point where her Invulnerability shows up. But I’ll kill only two mage spawns and injure the rest. MoM strike force moves to a nearby hindering terrain on the first turn. Domina summons back one dead mage spawn. My turn, revenant one of my opponent’s mage spawn. Even if there are no targets for my revenanted mage spawn, at least I wasted one of his mage spawns by removing it from the game. The MoM strike force will have a hard time with lots of powerful mage spawns still hanging around. But I am confident that the MoM strike force can outrun them and eventually slay them all.
Ah finally, the mighty Vithzerai shows up. Vithzerai will have an average counterspell roll of 18-19, at par with Aeradon’s 18-19. Majority of P-I-D18’s army is composed of Toughness, so might not burn all of my Imps, probably just fry around 10, just enough to kill Trix. MoM strike force again will have to work overtime but I have full confidence in my MoM strike force and my playing skills. With 3 hindering/concealing terrains to jump around the 4x6 table, I believe I still hold a huge advantage over the competition.

Hmm, another MoM army with a wicked counterspeller (Vithz). The way I see it, if my SotD succeeds, game over for kaizer9. If it fails, it’s not game over for me. My MoM strike force is IMO superior because it can teleport at every turn (thanks to the Cloak of Martyr) and shoot BoL every turn (thanks to the Cloak again). Plus, all the key MoM strike force members have Stealth or Cloak of Shadows. But it will be a very fun and challenging game though if my SotD doesn’t succeed.
Also, I noticed that you submitted your army on January 29, 9pm. Hmmm..., I'll just give you the benefit of the doubt. :D
I made some modifications to my 1,200 army two weeks before the Jan.29 conquest tournament. I used 3 weak Solonavi Shades to copy Command and Summon. Instead of Salamander wielding the Cloak of Martyr, I used a Medicine Troll because of its conquest 360-degree front arc. I also inserted Magus Anendu w/ Deny for counterspelling purposes. I could only squeeze in 263 points of SotD fodders composing of Flea, Podo, Goblin Volunteers*, Imps*, **, Grimlins*, and (orc) Fodders*.
1st Round
My opponent had the Alment Lan with Word of Refusal. Rolled big, SotD was successfully cast. Immediately zeroed in on Valkyrie Tazia wielding Karrudan's Bow. Boom! Had plenty of damage left to spread around.
2nd Round
Went up against a pure Drac army composed of 6 Battle Mentors, Chroma, Myrmidon, Priestess, Eldrithch, and,... Vithzerai. Succeeded again on my SotD on the first try. Killed the sorcerers first, Kenaz w/ BoL took care of Vithzerai, Rowan took care of the already-damaged-from-SotD Battle Mentors with Dragonflame.
3rd Round
Elabeth the Pure was the only high counterspeller he had. SotD succeeded. First batch to die was Niasamond, 3 Rivenguard Archers, and Elabeth. MoM later took care of 2 Sky Dragon cavalry units and a beefed-up Raydan Marz. Very quick match.
Finals
Up against a pure BPR army with Crown of Khamsin, assorted BPR, and lots of Bombarders. Notwithstanding the SotD fodders, I suffered my first casualty (2 of my figures died) in the entire event due to my carelessness (shooting it out instead of my MoM strike force jumping from one terrain to another terrain). Still won the game though under an hour.
Comments:
While the rest of the other players' matches ended due to the running time (1 hour and 20 minutes) with only 4-6 figures killed, my matches ended on an average of 20 minutes and total wipeout of my opponents' armies. That's very impressive if I have to say so myself.
Now that I've debut Aeradon's Swarm Bomb at Conquest at our venue, I doubt it will be seen again at our venue (because I won't allow it). Too imbalance and powerful, sucks the fun and strategy out of the game. Yeah, you could counter it but what about the other players with less resources.
Weaknesses of SotD:
1. High Counterspeller with Deny or Word of Refusal.
2. High Counterspeller with Deny or Word of Refusal and with a friendly figure with Turajan Tome.
3. Mechanoid.
4. Damage-reduction armies.
5. Submerged armies, especially with Threadcutter.
that's a scary nice army, dragon. :)
would i have thought of a strategy like that if i had the figures and cards? i base all my armies with the stuff i have on hand so what you did would have caught me completely off guard.
it's the first time i heard of it here and i have to agree with you, it should not just be banned from cebu but the entire world should melt their aerodon figures and the swarm of the ####ed spells to never have it plague mankind again. :P
like i said earlier dragon, i just put in the things i'm familiar with and like kaizer, i just built an army with what i do have. but i checked everything you said and thought about your strategy...and i just went "whoa!"
Originally posted by THE DRAGON Rowan would cast Dragonflame, killing 59 Imps,
Actually this is not the original battle plan (I got my battle plans mixed up with the actual Conquest battle last Sunday). The original battle plan was to have all the weak Imps surround the Whelp Alchemist. I forgot exactly how many can fit in the Alchemist's 5-inch shockwave radius, but I am pretty sure it was 40+ Imps. The Alchemist shockwaves them for 1 clicks and demoralizing them in the process and eliminating them at the end phase. If for some reason, my Alchemist rolls low, the back-up plan would have Rowan casting Dragonflame.
wow thats insane lol one of the players at my venue did summthing similar instead of the whole dragon flame thing and imps he used weak gremlins and would have like 4 swarms cast and like 2 death throes or sumthing like that lol.
but, i still think i would win. no doubt you could take out a few of my mage spawn, but i would still wreak havoc among your forces. gaunt moves at a 16"clip and i would send it and others out to hunt the spell reventer and oncce he falls i would go after kenaz. the others are crippled with one blow from any of my mage spawn.
since i can bring them back they would all double time and i would push continually. it would be a fun battle. don't know if you have ever used or seen thanatos. a killing machine with sweep in conquest battles and wraith is just insane with her 4 damage all the way down the dial.
i usaully run this team with ghost army and some gremlins. i position myself around the reventers and then attack. but i became too one sided and not much fun.
still, i love your idea and would have liked to see what would have happened.
First and foremost we have to discuss is can you effectively counterspell my Swarm of the Darned. The answer is no. Domina Vo'kara and Malava each will have an average counterspell roll of 16-17 while my Aeradon has an average counterspell roll of 18-19.
Let's assume my SotD succeeds (which statistically it will), Salamander takes damage from Cloak of Martyr, my Whelp Alchemist shockwaves 54 Imps to death (5 Imps will remain). I will have 54 damage to distribute among your figures.
With four of your mage spawns dead, I would get another 4 SotD damage. Deal another 4 damage to Wraith. Add that to the 2 damage it received earlier, the Wraith takes 6 damage total.
Now let's take at the status of your remaining army:
Gatelord
Vorgoth
Tormented Soul*** x 4
Domina Vo'kara - took 6 clicks of damage.
Thanatos Reaper - took 6 clicks of damage.
Malava - took 6 clicks of damage.
Wraith - took 6 clicks of damage.
I still have 3 actions left. The 5 remaining Imps move in formation to base contact the Alchemist. My Shyft Summoner double times to push to its second click. MoM strike force jumps to the nearest hindering/concealing terrain I placed.
Your turn. Domina summons back 1 mage spawn (probably Majoris). The rest of your troops move forward. Gatelord moves 10 inches, cannot double-time. Vorgoth moves 8 inches, can't double-time. Tormented Soul moves 8 inches and CAN double-time though but won't, hehehe.
My turn. Aeradon and the Pain Wraith revenants 2 of your dead mage spawns, removing them from the game afterwards.
To highlight again the members of my MoM strike force:
Tempest Priest*
w/ Mask of Mysteries
Kenaz Stoneheart
w/ Book of Lightning
w/ Cloak of Shadow
Lady Rowan
w/ Teachings of the True Way
- Dragonflame
Tempest Priest**
w/ Tome of Brass
- Dragonflame
River Charger***
on EF Horned Stag
Salamander
w/ Cloak of Martyr
w/ Cloak of Shadow
The battlefield is 72 inches long with a minimum of 3 hindering/concealing terrain scattered throughout. While your army moves and passes, moves and passes, moves, and passes every turn, my MoM strike force can jump around the battlefield with ease and at every turn if need be (thanks to the Cloak of Martyr). Kenaz w/ BoL will likely shoot Vorgoth or Gatelord from a safe distance, with Salamander taking damage from the Cloak of Martyr also. Rowan and the Tempest Priest** will likely fry the Tormented Souls or Gatelord with either Dragonflame or a normal ranged combat attack. The River Charger will mounted charge if there's an opportunity and maybe gamble to double-time to base contact Domina to keep her from summoning. With 9 attack value, the already injured Domina is no melee threat. The Pain Wraith (as well as Aeradon) will revenant your dead mage spawns to remove them from the game. Tempest Priest* teleports to another terrain if things get dicey or will heal Salamander when there's no danger.
That's my opinion. :) But I hope I explained my case in a clear and very logical manner that the outcome I presented would be the likely one to happen. And yes, it would be a fun battle indeed. And not only your army but all the other submitted armies as well.
