No one got a perfect score in their predictions. 4 players did however almost got every outcome right (7 points each) and they are Norim, Sephil, Klesk, and Locoghoul.
Announcement
After careful consideration, I decided to make the side contest per tournament basis, meaning it won't be continuous from tournament to tournament, so that the late-comers can catch up.
So that means Klesk not only won the Bare Essential tournament but he also won the Side Contest. Congrats!
Norim versus Stjohn5179
Norim's army played by me
Stjohn5179's army played by Soi
I used Implant Channel first to whittle down the defenses of my opponent's tank army before engaging my enemy. Pike killed Podo. My opponent had a slight dilemma: drop Heartseeker relic and lose +2 defense or keep the relic and can't fight in close combat. Good call since I missed a few times trying to hit Rava. Near the end, Rava dropped the relic. Thing were bleak for me, I was losing. Time was called and after tabulating our points, I got more points from kill points and objective token points. Winner: Norim
Rushvin versus Dr3_oturf
Rushvin's army played by Soi
Dr3_oturf's army played by himself
Soi cast Morass but didn't do him no good as Dr3_oturf just moved his pieces individually at the safety of his camp until a "3" was rolled and ended the spell. Dr3_oturf baited one of his Blood Demons and the two Rivvenguard Archers shot the Demon dead. Dr3_oturf's other 2 Demons then double-timed to tie up the Archers while his Tazia moved in closer. Bowman Nock shot the Blood Demon for 3 damage. Tazia pushed to mounted bound/bound and killed one Archer. Many turns later, there wasn't anything Soi could effectively do as his army's range was neutralized by harassers with high defense. At one point, Tazia soared and mounted bound/bound everyone later. Tazia and Pegasus took 2 pushing damage from 2 Acid Cloud rolls but still wiped out his opponent. Winner: Dr3_oturf
Goldeneye versus Klesk
Goldeneye's army played by Dr3_oturf

It was Uncle Guns (drinking PoD) who finally managed to damage Vextha and rolled a 5 for WM damage, giving it a total of 6 damage (+1 to Crown). Pretty much downhill for Vextha after that. Winner: Klesk
Narog2 versus ODJN7
Narog2's army played by me
ODJN7's army played by Soi
BoL'd to death everyone except my opponent's Kenaz w/ Tezla's Manual. I tried to run away but with a -2 speed from Mechanoid, Kenaz caught up with everyone and slaughtered them. Time was called and the only remaining survivor on my army was the tough Dwarven Forgemage. My opponent had 2 objective tokens worth 120 points and 175 kill points, giving him a total of 295. While I had a total of 92 points. Winner: ODJN7
Sephil versus Locoghoul
Sephil's army played by me
Locoghoul's army played by Dr3_oturf
My opponent kept casting Fumble and my centaur army was easily tied up outside their front arcs. Managed to kill two Grimlins and a Pyre Spirit. Winner: Locoghoul
Phoenix 2000 versus Miss Lytes

Didn't cast Fumble at the get-go as I wanted to lure Cindrata closer. Scuffled at the middle with my army emerging victorious. Winner: Phoenix 2000
Sigmazero13 versus Fat*Ninja
Sigmazero13's army played by me
Fat*Ninja's army played by Dr3_oturf
Nothing much I could do against the Solonavi behemoth Vextha, even Black Blades wasn't that of a factor. Winner: Fat*Ninja
Steinerplex versus CirederF
Steinerplex's army played by Dr3_oturf
CirederF's army played me
I drew first blood when I opted to Overload two of his figures: the Tempest Priest* and Heiramann Priestess***. I even rolled a 6 for Overload damage. My opponent rallied back and it was a hard-fought match. My Anunub was the only one left but was eventually killed by a Rivvenguard Archer on his last 3rd click. Winner: Steinerplex

Nobody got a perfect score on the 2nd round but four people got the highest number of correct predictions (6): Phoenix 2000, Klesk, ODJN7 and CirederF. Good job.
Klesk is leading the pack with 13 points so far, followed closely by ODJN7, Norim and Locoghoul. It's still anybody's ball game. 3rd round match-ups are coming up...
Fat*Ninja versus Klesk
Fat*Ninja’s army played by Omin-osul
Klesk’s army played by me
My most eagerly anticipated match-up. I placed two huge chunks of clear terrain and it worked to my advantage as I controlled the battlefield. Vextha had no way to base contact my Uncle Guns or Hazna Bez without stepping on open space where Guns can shoot him. I intentionally placed the Amazon Scout in the middle objective token as bait, but Vextha wouldn’t bite. And so for 10 minutes, we danced back and forth, Vextha trying to move in position and my key troops moving away from his reach. Knowing he’ll lose by objective token points, my opponent decided to charge the Amazon Warrior in the middle (at one point, he contemplated capturing the Amazon to use as a temporary shield). My turn, the Amazon Scout successfully broke away and Guns bounded and needed an 8 to hit. Success! Vextha took 5 damage. Last action, my other Amazon Scout based contact Vextha. His turn, my Scout took Venom damage and Vextha drank his Potion of Vitality for 5 healing and was back in full health (grumble grumble). Vextha passed. My turn, my Scout broke away from Vextha and Guns pushed to shoot Vextha again for 5 damage. (The reason why I didn’t let Guns’ drink the PoD first before shooting on both times was because I wasn’t sure if my Scouts could break away) One of my standard Forgemages moved forward. Vextha flew back to his blocking terrain, hoping to buy some time. But the BPRs caught up with him eventually. Fat*Ninja’s points: 0 Klesk’s points: 208 kill points (kp) + 180 objective token points (otp) = 388 points Winner: Klesk
Norim versus Phoenix2000
Norim’s army played by me
Phoenix2000’s army played by Omin-osul
When the time was right, my Golem Familiar double-timed to a concealing terrain and used Implant Channel to shoot my opponent’s Tempest Priest. Next turn, pushed my Delphana Master to cast Implant Channel again to demoralize his Tempest Priest. Now that my opponent’s ability to cast Auraheal was severely hampered, I engaged the enemy. Pike took care of Geddion while my Dragon Priest challenged Rava. Things were going my way until my opponent made some extremely lucky rolls and the tide turned in his favor. Duked it out to balanced things. When time ended, my opponent’s remaining warriors were Rava and Geddion (both of them 2nd to their last click of life), Zeph Wyndfenner (3rd to the last click) and High Elven Warrior (middle click). Good thing I controlled two objective tokens because even though I was winning at the end, my opponent had higher kill points. Norim’s points: 50 kp + 120 otp = 170 points Phoenix2000’s points: 139 kp + 0 otp = 139 points Winner: Norim
Locoghoul versus ODJN7
Locoghoul’s army played by Omin-osul

Carelessness on my opponent’s part made the match a bit more competitive than it should have been. Locoghoul’s points: 168 kp + 180 otp = 348 points ODJN7’s points: 132 kp + 0 otp = 132 points Winner: Locoghoul
Goldeneye versus Dr3_oturf
Goldeneye’s army played by me
Dr3_oturf’s army played by Omin-osul
My game plan was to soar Vextha w/ Sunsword and shoot his magic healer first (Blood Cultist), then take care of Tazia. But to lessen the chances for Acid Cloud, I figured I would soar while I’m at the middle of the table. Upon reaching there, the hounds moved in formation to base contact me. Tazia moved in closer and was ready to strike. Vextha rested. Tazia mounted charged Vextha and failed. Tazia took 4 damage from Counterattack. My turn, I pushed Vextha to finish off Tazia. Everybody took 4 damage from Kbow. Vextha later on soared and shot everyone while healing himself with Life Drain. Goldeneye’s points: 268 kp + 180 otp = 448 points Dr3_oturf’s points: 0 points
Rushvin versus Sigmazero13
Rushvin’s army played by Omin-osul
Sigmazero13’s army played by me
I placed two concealing terrains. I made sure Podo’s defense was at 20 because my army had no healer, so might as well maximize the 20 defense early. The Goblin formation moved slowly but securely, only two Goblins were not under the 20 Defend protection of Podo and Yulo. My opponent’s Morass spell ended at my 3rd turn. His Archers tried in vain to shoot down my formation while they were still outside of concealing terrain but to no avail. Once inside my second concealing terrain, the formation rested. When the time was right, I double-timed a formation of 5 Goblins to base contact the archers. My opponent then cast Shield of Faith. My Dodge rolls were very favorable as my Goblins avoided being massacred. The goblins even managed to hit the archers for 2-4 damage. My opponent was very frustrated with my good Dodge rolls, imagine how he felt when Podo and Yulo finally arrived to base contact the harassing Goblins. At one point in the game, I formation broke away from the archers so that my Gishki could throw his Sunfire Javelin at the elven formation. It missed. When time was called, the Goblins killed nothing but controlled 2 objective tokens. Rushvin’s points: 41 kp + 60 otp = 101 points. Sigmazero13’s points: 0 kp + 120 otp = 120 points Winner: Sigmazero13
Narog2 versus Steinerplex
Narog2’s army played by Omin-osul
Steinerplex’s army played by me
Tried to cast Centaur’s Gait on Prince Warden but was counterspelled. I double-timed Warden and my 3 bounders to siege the BoL camp. Had some poor rolls with my attacks and my opponent had a great figure placement with his Kenaz, tough Forgemage, and War Bard w/ Auraheal. Whatever damage I inflicted on Kenaz, it would be reversed by either his Forgemage or War Bard. Narog2’s points: 256 kp + 180 otp = 436 points Steinerplex’s points: 37 kp + 0 otp = 37 points Winner: Narog2
CirederF versus Sephil
CirederF’s army played by me
Sephil’s army played by Omin-osul
My opponent blundered his first turn and clustered his double-timing centaurs together. When my golem reached there and exploded for 4 damage, it was game over. I decided to re-do the match again as it was not the proper way to handle Sephil's army. I adviced him to double-time separately and 6 inches away from each other. (Yes, in my CotR games, I oftentimes advice and give tips to my opponents because CotR is primarily a contest on who has the better army.) New game, same outcome. Anunub cast Technomantic Control on Tezlaraptor, two Golems tied up Laurell and the Centaur Champion respectively. His turn, his Centaur Shaman moved forward and his Champion pushed to kill the harassing Golem. My turn, Laurell took 5 Overload damage, Tezlaraptor bound and attempted to shoot Laurell, I missed (aaargh!) Throughout the game, I overloaded my golems when they were in critical stages. In the end, all that was left was my relatively healthy Anunub and my opponent’s Centaur Champion which was on its last click. The Champion double-timed to play grab-the-tokens-before-time-ends. Not wanting to play that game, Anunub double-timed in position to push to shoot Champion on the next turn. Anunub then shot dead the Champion. CirederF’s points: 224 kp + 180 otp = 404 points Sephil’s points: 18 kp + 0 top = 18 points Winner: CirederF
Stjohn5179 versus Miss Lytes
Stjohn5179’s army played by me
Miss Lytes’ army played by Omin-osul
My opponent’s two Blackwings tied up Khan Rava while I used my Ub-khan and Orc Warbeast to tie up his Cindrata and Throne Monk respectively. Both parties frequently used their Blood Shaman’s Hex every other turn. Secure in Podo’s protection, Rava dropped the Heartseeker relic to close combat attack the Blackwings. But needing an 8 to hit, Rava missed all his attacks throughout the game. My Ub-khan on the other hand was doing very well with his fight with Cindrata, even managing to injure her down to her last click. But alas, my Ub-khan couldn’t finish the job as a Blackwing helped Cindrata in killing him. Throne Monk received lots of damage from pushing herself and from my Warbeast’s shake-off. After killing my Warbeast, Throne Monk charged to Sweep my Blood Shaman and Podo but failed. The Blood Shaman on the other hand managed to critically hit Throne Monk for 3 damage. The Throne Monk which was on its last click ran away and before Podo or my Shaman could go after it, another Blackwing tied them up. Things looked bleak as my opponent’s Shaman healed Cindrata and Throne Monk back to health. Time was up. Stjohn5179’s points: 24 kp + 60 otp = 84 points Miss Lytes’ points: 109 kp + 120 otp = 229 points

Big congrats to Locoghoul on being the only one to get a perfect 8-0 prediction on the 3rd round match-ups!
And with his perfect 8 points, Locoghoul overtakes the dominant Klesk to lead the pack with 20 points, followed by ODJN7, Norim, and Klesk with 18 points each.
Congratulations to Klesk, Locoghoul, Norim, Phoenix2000, CirederF, Fat*Ninja, Sigmazero13, and Narog2 for making it to the Balanced Warfare quarter-finals. There you have it, the Magic 8. Among these wide variety of army types, who has what it takes it go the distance? Good luck to all. Also, kudos to Klesk, Locoghoul, and Norim for going in to the quarter-finals with a perfect 3-0 record.
Thank you very much to the other participants, though you didn’t make the cut, you're all still winners. Better luck next time. :classic:
A very good mixture of army types in the quarter finals. There's an Overload army (CirederF), a one-figure fatty beatstick army (Fat*Ninja), swarm army (Sigmazero13), BoL army (Narog2), and some swiss-knife army (the others).
Actual battle will take place next week. Place your predictions for the quarter finals. :classic:
Klesk (1) versus Narog2 (8)
Klesk’s army played by me
Narog2’s army played by Omin-osul
Omin-osul used the same deployment formation he used in the 3rd round which was to position his War Bard and tough Dwarven Forgemage in such a way that no other figures could base contact his Kenaz Stoneheart. It was a no-win situation for me: If I double-time some (or all) of my figures, they would be in really bad shape and can’t hit squat when they got to the enemy camp and if I move them normally in formation, all the key figures would get shot at. I decided the latter strategy. Kenaz with BoL shot my healer first, then finished it off later. Uncle Guns was next, then Hazna Bez. Before dying, at least Guns managed to drink the PoD and shot his Kenaz for 4 damage. But whatever damage I inflicted, his War Bard with Auraheal or tough Forgemage would reverse the damage. After Klesk’s army lost, we kept discussing possible scenarios and all of them led to the same outcome. Winner: Narog2
Phoenix 2000 (4) versus CirederF (5)
Phoenix 2000’s army played by Omin-osul
CirederF’s army played by me
My opponent cast Fumble, Anunub failed to counterspell but luckily I rolled a 6 for my Fumble check and Anunub retained his spellbook. I immediately went after my opponent’s Tempest Priest which was carrying the Fumble and Auraheal spell. I got lucky when I rolled a 5 for Overload damage. His Rava couldn’t shoot my Golem with Stealth who were hiding inside concealing terrain. Much later, I double-time my Brass Assassin to base contact his Rava. Rava dealt 3 close combat damage to the Brass Assassin. When my Assassin was near death, I blew it up for 6 Overload damage (Rava took 5). My Tezlaraptor finished off his Tempest Priest. His Zeph drank the PoD and dealt 6 damage to my Tezlaraptor. I tried to blow up Tezlaraptor but rolled a 1. Zeph pushed to finish off the Tezlaraptor. With his Rava and Zeph the only one left (both have a damage value of 2), my two remaining Golem Familiars challenged them head-on relying on their Rally to save the day. Winner: CirederF
Locoghoul (2) versus Sigmazero13 (7)
Locoghoul’s army played by me
Sigmazero13’s army played by Omin-osul
I cast Fumble every opportunity I get. When the chance arrived, my Pyre Spirit drank the PoD and smite (or is it "smote") a Goblin Raider for 4 damage and taking out Khan Podo and some Goblins in the process. Jadreen took some potshots to the Goblins. Goblins harassed Jadreen but with their low attack values, they couldn’t hit her. My Pyre Spirit died later at the hands of Gishki’s Thunderblow. Though most of the Goblins were dying, I couldn’t finish them all off given the time frame. I instinctively grabbed the objective tokens. Time was called a few seconds later and Locoghoul’s army won by objective token points and kill points. Winner: Locoghoul
Norim (3) versus Fat*Ninja (6)
Norim’s army played by Omin-osul
Fat*Ninja’s army played by me
My opponent decided not to waste the PoD immediately and opted to base Vextha with the Golem Familiars (for gang-up purposes later). Of course, not wanting to push uselessly to damage the Golem Familiar for 4 damage, Vextha passed. When his Pike finally mounted charge/charge Vextha, Pike got a +3 (from the 2 Golems and Sky Dragon) to her attack value for a total of 15. Pike hits. Vextha fails his Dodge roll, he takes 3 damage. The Sky Dragon finishes off the mc/c part and still gets a +3 to its attack value (from the 2 Golems and Pike), Vextha succeeds in dodging it, the Sky Dragon takes 1 Paragon damage. Vextha used Sweep and heals himself for 2 clicks. Pretty much downhill for my opponent from there on. Winner: Fat*Ninja

Standings
A lot of participants got a zero score in their last quarterfinals predictions. Only Sephil and Locoghoul got a high score of 2. The number one shocker was probably CirederF's win over the Fumble army of Phoenix 2000 (Anunub succeeded in his Fumble check). Also, nobody voted Fat*Ninja's "One Man Band" Vextha to win. They relied too much on Pike's high attack value, not considering that Vextha had constant clicks of Dodge, constant high defense, and lots of recuperating abilities.
Locoghoul leads the pack with 22 points, followed closely by Norim, ODJN7, and Klesk.
Next is the semi-finals. For that round, correct prediction entries will garner you 3 points. It's not over yet. :classic:
Wow, a really nice blend of countries in the semi-finals. Defending CotR champion Klesk from USA was eliminated by Brazil's Narog2, so it now falls to Fat*Ninja to represent USA.
Very extremely different army types in the semi-finals, we have the BoL engine from Narog2, Overloading golems from CirederF, swiss-knife army by Locoghoul, and a one-man beatstick by Fat*Ninja.
CirederF versus Narog2
CirederF's army played by me
Narog2's army played by Omin-osul Summary: Before the game, my opponent and I had a small argument. I adviced him to scatter Narog2's army apart at deployment while he wanted to use the same deployment clustered formation he's been using for the past two games. I won initiative. My Golem Familiars and Brass Assassin all double-time to a middle concealing terrain. His turn, Anunub takes 3 damage from BoL. My turn, I pushed to double-time one of the Golem Familiars to the enemy camp. Kenaz failed to counterspell my Overload and the golem exploded for 5 damage. All four of his troops received damage. His War Bard cast Auraheal and healed themselves for 2 clicks. Kenaz shot Anunub again for 3 damage. Dying, Anunub pushed to explode another double-timing Golem Familiar for 3 damage. It took around 25 minutes or so, but the rest of the golems finally overpowered his troops. After the game, we tried using my scattered deployment approach on Narog2's army. He was right, the scattered approach was easier to defeat because once Kenaz was hit by a big Overload damage, he couldn't shoot every turn because he had to move to be healed. Winner:CirederF
Locoghoul versus Fat*Ninja
Locoghoul's army played by Omin-osul
Fat*Ninja's army played by me Summary: Expecting my Paragon's Shield to drop, I put in two hindering terrains so that Vextha would still have a +1 defense against ranged attacks and his harassing Grimlins wouldn't be able to base contact me immediately when they enter the hindering terrain. I won initiative, I moved the maximum speed. He cast Fumble. Vextha luckily succeeded his Fumble check. I pass. I move inside the next hindering terrain, nearer to his camp. He cast Fumble again, Vextha dropped the relic. For his 3rd action, one of the Grimlin, who was waiting already inside the hindering terrain, base contact Vextha. I passed. His Pyre Spirit drank the PoD and pushed to surge Vextha. It connected. Vextha rolled a 4 for Dodge and the Pyre Spirit received 4 Counterattack damage for his troubles. Jadreen bound to precision and point blank shoot Vextha, needing an 8 to hit. Success! Vextha takes 3 damage. My turn, I finished off the Pyre Spirit, healing myself in the process. Sometime later, I managed to pick up the Paragon's Shield but dropped it again due to Fumble. Even without the Shield, Jadreen had a hard time hitting my Vextha's 20 defense (+1 Cloak of Dervish and +1 hindering terrain). After a few more minutes, I gave up on picking up the Shield and went after Jadreen herself. Jadreen managed to break away and was replaced by a Zombie Centaur. I rested. I then went on straight to the Fumbler - the Dwarven Runelord. He failed his breakaway. I pushed to damage the runt. Jadreen precision and point blank shot Vextha's rear arc and managed to hit it. Vextha drank his PoV and healed himself to his 2nd click. Many turns later, Vextha finished off everybody without the benefit of his Paragon's Shield. Winner:Fat*Ninja
