 Where did all this talk about Mage Knight come from? :p Actually, after comparing some of the point costs of the gears, and the dice and/or shields that they provide, I say that the game is pretty much balance. Kellan Colt's/Kyushi's Dragon Amulet for example both cost 3 pts that produces a 4-red sider while Lothan the Wise's Fireball Satchel costs 6 pts and produces two 4-sider dice. Now if the LE gears was something like a 5 pt gear that produces two 4-sider dice, then everyone would want that gear as opposed to Lothan's dirty handbag ;)
[HiJack] While we are talking about wizkids games I've been wanting to get into mechwarrior for the longest time. I like heroclix and all but the maps are to restricting and I'm not much of a comic person to be honest. When I saw thouse great big mechs come tumbling out of the booster my eyes lit up with an inner fire and my freinds had to drag me out of the gaming store as I scrambled for my credit card. I have good freinds. Still I see thouse shiney mechwarror mechs and I keep wanting to play. Or at the very least to just buy some and pet them for awhile. So is it a good game?
mechwarrior is really good, its far superior as a strategy game than MK, and it has the interesting appeal of vartiety.
Example:
In MW, I loved the tanks. SO, i decided to build an infantry company army, a mechanized infantry. So, my army consists of 20-20 infantry units, all monted in APCs, suported by thumper artillery and helicopters. not a mech to be seen,a nd it STILL wins.
BTW< If anyone wants to trade soem MW, I collect spirit cats/ROTS, and will trade well for good stuff, email [email protected]
About gear:
*I* think the BESt way will be these passcards. Have LE gear give cards, and THOSE will have special abilities and fucntions. THAT way, its jsut DIFFERENT, not better/wrose, as the passcard aspect might make the gear really expensiove.
That gives a chase element, without being broken, which is what the game needs.
i got what you mean, and yeah, it doesn't make it a better game just because it has more players. it's just sad that their breakthrough game (mage knight) isn't as top billed as before. :)
Mage Knight was a massively good game and it saddens me to see it whither and die, but it is best not to dwell on the sad. We must look to the future and the future is SR Duels.
Nah, MK won't die out, as far as I can tell, the world championship for Mage Knight is still the biggest sanctioned event for Wizkids, being at the biggest gaming event of the year. I think that fact alone is a good sign for us MK'ers.
So what I've gathered from this thread:
1. Lots of people like Heroclix, and heroclix was their gateway plastic drug of choice(leading to heavier drugs such as the plastic smack that is Mechwarrior possibly? Who knows).
2. Static range in Mage Knight is dead...wait, that's not right, forget #2.
3. Lots of people have lots of concern over the sad environment of what is today Mage Knight.
4. LE's must be cool but not overpowered(duh!:p )
5. I guess there just isn't a big Mage Knight following in Shadowrun right now, that is too bad, oh well.
Thanks for all of your responses; it's always good to beable to have your finger on the pulse of the community and know what's goin' down!
they beghan releasing countless promo figures to try and squeeze every dollor out, leading to the atrocious corpheus being created, the piece which IMHo is complete and totally unbeatable by any piece.
Also, Wk made soem stupid moves, like pulling gilgarshs and the horseman off ebay(TRY and find a horseman on ebay, you wont, WK doesnt wnat peopel making 3 grnad off their piece of plastic, so they evoked ebays "cop out policy" to get them all pulled down)
And also, Wk wotn admit that dungeons is a stupid, horrific, unstrategic game, and they keep forcing repaitns of older figures down everyones throat. i havnt seena good Mk piece since sinister, although some of the dual dracs look good, but p[aying for 2 factiosn bumps up the point cost.
Also, as for SRD beign the futur,e it isnt, its not gonna be mainstream. it will sell OK, but its shadowrun, the onyl reasoN i think it even got made was because likely toybiz, or whoever has the qaction figure rights to marvel/dc characters wouldnt let WK make the action figure game with marvel/dc, as thats where an action figure game woudl have sold a gazillion copies. Comic characters jstu dotn make interesting minis, they all look the smae, bland and uninteresting.
The future is heroclix, and will be, I dotn like it, but it has mainstream appeal.

As far as the first thing you said...most people not interested in comics obviously don't find comic characters interesting. But to say that they all look the same shows that your opinions are biased. Being in a superhero costume doesn't make you look the same as another hero...but to know that you'd actually have to take a closer look before passing judgment. I could say all the mechs look the same in Mechwarrior because they are mechs, but because I've actually had credible experience with the game, I know it's not the case.
You are right about the mainstream appeal, and I'm happy to finally see an interesting comic game. (that wasn't just interesting because of it's relation to comics) Your bias most likely stems from annoyance that your interest isn't hitting it's stride like comics currently are, which is understandable. I know it used to bug me seeing the countless Pokemon crap they had...I just couldn't comprehend why ridiculous garbage like that got so much attention, while comics didn't get the mainstream attention I deemed it deserved. With whatever your big interest is (Shadowrun or not) I can see why that something uninteresting to you, like comics, annoys you because it takes the attention you want for your interest...damn't I am a long-winded bastard! I may have to contribute to the "damn't" post now.
discussion in mkrealms in our clan blame bound as the bane in mk. it went way out of hand. plus the fact that there seems to have been a formulaic thing with winning armies. even despite the dice. but hey, i hope they carry on.
I'm really in disagreeance with you. First of all, Corpheus was/is/will never be a promo figure, Corpheus was available to all players through the heroic quests pack, not random, you knew what you were getting.
I agree there is a problem with bound, you'd have to if you played Mage Knight at all, but as I said in an earlier post there are very simple ways to take care out it. A lot of figures take the Amazon's 5 damage and just get better (a ***werebear is one of the coolest, underused pieces in all of Mage Knight). There is also TONS of Limited Invivibility out there now-a-days. Necropolis Sect seems to get the shaft more often than not, but they have awesome uniques with LI, including the Zombie Baron, who in my opinion is one of the best uniques of all time.
Mage Knight is not dead, neither is Dungeons. Your quote that Wizkids keeps cramming repaints down people's throats is so rediculous. Pyramids was another base set for Dungeons, an unneeded one, but another one none the less. Dragon's Gate is going to have all new mage spawn and heros, no repaints. Dungeons is a very fun game if you like to board game; it's not as strategic as the other games, but it sure can be a lot more fun and people can be a lot more inventive with their heroic teams than the current scene in mage Knight umlimited play.
Sorry to rant, but I get frustrated easily by people with such close minds that they don't consider the Crystal Protector a good piece(because it was released after sinister, it could not possibly be good of course!).
