I have an old computer in storage that I'm pretty sure has a back up of the original MKRealms ... I'm going to power it up this weekend and see if I can't rebuild the units section. I'm so excited to see 'nub again! ;)
That was one of my favorite aspects of the old 'Realms. Looking forward to using it to build War Bands once again.
Over the next few months, players will be revisiting some of the most important battles in the history of the Land. These events will not alter the map - but the results may well influence the future of the Mage Knight storylines!
Background:
424 Tz: Kzar Rabahn leads the Orc Raiders against the southlands. The legendary Orc warlord pillages, burns, and poisons everything in sight for almost a year before Kossak Mageslayer, a Troll warlord sent by the Elemental League to put an end to the destruction, kills Rabahn in single combat at the gates of the Citadel of Luxor. In this historical scenario, reenact the raids by Rabahn’s horde and the initial doomed attempts of the Atlanteans to stop Rabahn’s tide of blood and death.
Objective: The Atlanteans try to defeat the Orcs, while trying to minimize their own losses.
Army Size
Three-player game. The Orc Raiders player plays a 500-point army and receives five actions per turn. Atlantean Player 1 plays a 300-point army and receives three actions per turn. Atlantean Player 2 also plays a 300-point army and receives three actions per turn. No titans, castles, or multiple-dial figures are allowed.
Time Limit: 50 minutes
Rules Set: Mage Knight: Unlimited
Preparing the Battlefield
Set up the terrain per the battlefield map. No additional terrain pieces are placed.
Special Rules
1. At the beginning of the game, the Orc Raiders player selects one of his or her warriors from the Orc Raiders faction to represent Kzar Rabahn. If the warrior is eliminated, it may not be brought back into play using Necromancy.
2. All warriors belonging to the Atlantean players are considered friendly.
3. The Orc Raiders player goes first, followed by Atlantean Player 1, then Atlantean Player 2.
Victory Conditions: Score victory points per the standard rules.
Hello everyone, I want to ask you a question about styrene cards.
I've read a comment in a youtube video that in Heroclix, they are enabled to print out and use in that form in the matches.
Is this true? Can we use printed out styrene in Mage Knight too?
For MK, I'd go with Calanth. Styrene wears out pretty fast with all the punching out and replacing anyway, and since there's no real tourney legality anymore I can't see why it would be a problem in any game you play so long as your proxy is an exact duplicate.
About HC, it's a unique thing they recently did with HoT prize support. Years ago, when James Carrot was the HC rules arbitrator, I emailed and asked him about "stand-in" pieces to hold the place on the board of a valuable U or LE in my force (I'm a toy collector first...). The answer was a simple "no proxies." It went into the FAQ, and it stayed that way even with the addition of cardboard to the game when someone else asked if it was legal to print and play Feats, BFC's, etc. No proxies, no proxies, no proxies. You must have the official, WK-made product in your hand and on the table in sanctioned events. Fine.
Come HoT, after the long hiatus, and confusion about these prize support packs and how they were distributed, no working AP system (they're calling it Organized Play at the moment, but it's a misnomer), etc. - there weren't enough prize packs to go around. So, they are allowing "print & play" for the cards in HoT events. Whether or not that is the model going forward remains to be seen, but especially with this precedent I can see them having trouble banning proxies in the future. I know I'll be wont to argue the point for proxy cardboard, at least, but I'm a bit removed from any kind of sanctioned play at this point. Locally, we've never had any qualms about printing cards for use in friendly games, and they were often overlooked at tourneys, too.
They re-inlisted the rules arb who served at the end of the old WK, so it's a question he's going to have to address before they get a new AP system running.
Well, for casual here at home, we certainly have no problem with proxied styrene.
To be frank if you don't own all the cards, it's a way of saving money too, as long as everyone agrees to allow it.
I mean, I have the obligatory real copies of inferno, etc. if I'm going to play a game against someone I don't know who also insists on everything being "legit", but I don't own every single relic/spell and I probably never will.
Considering the main part of this game are the figs and those are not really proxy-friendly, I'm not too worried.
I'm a bit more into the collection side of the game (as in my collection vs. your collection)... it adds a bit more depth to the game I feel. That's probably related to how I see the game as well: I view it more like an RPG rather than just a strategy game (I really enjoy viewing things more as stories, so I probably do this intentionally) so it's cooler to actually have to go out and somehow acquire the item you need. I would use a proxy to test an army, but there would just be something missing for me in a real game.
