This one is a keeper, boys and girls. Even limiting its effect to the attack step doesn't stop it from being one of the most powerful and disruptive plot twists in the game’s short history. As you can see, its effect could be devastating during the recruit step: “Sorry, did you want to play that Thing, Heavy Hitter? Maybe next time.”
i think he just wanted to show how strong it could be if they hadn't limited it to the attack step, just look at other thing in the article:

There is one card in particular that struck me as inordinately powerful. I had a chance to speak with Dave Humpherys this past weekend about today’s preview card, and he told me that it actually had to be reigned in because it was too powerful otherwise. Upper Deck R&D had to constrain the card’s effect so that it only affected the attack step. Take a peek at this bad boy and you will quickly see what I mean.
Originally posted by Sleuth I just reread the card and it states EACH players Attack Step! Not target players attack step. It lasts until the end of both your turns so during his attack step your team still doesn't have a team affilation.
But it says during each player's attack step that player's characters lose the affiliation. That implies that it only affects the player who has the attack step not that it affects all players during the attack step. So once the card activates it will affect both player's attack steps, but only one player has an attack step at a time. Thus the defender will always have their affiliations intact.
Actually, If you played this before a team attack fully resolved, would this void the attack and leave everyone involved exhausted?
Just making sure. I'm pretty sure it would work. This card seems more opt to wipe out your opponent's/s' offensive strategies than defensive tactics because of the obvious limiting text pointed out by nearly half the people on this board (this sentence referring the the MetaGame article).
As far as I understand it, if you were to play this card after the attackers in a team attack exhausted, it wouldn't stop the attack because once the attacker(s) exhaust, the attack cannot be stopped. The check for team affiliation happens at the time the characters exhaust. That is my understanding anyways.
Originally posted by Thing11 He also said this which doesn't make sense to me:
The card clearly states that the characters do not have a team affilition during their attack step, it mentions nothing of the recruit step. He must hav made a mistake, or I am just dense.
The quote you mention is in reference to if the card wasn't limited to the attack step. Let's not put any more mistakes on the author than he may have actually made. :) Which currently totals in one. I'm hoping that this picture is just an older version of the card, myself. But either way, it's a definite must play card.
