Point net decking is good for winning as you gain everyones collective strength. You also gain everyones collective weaknesses. Keep firing in one direction and it won't be long before people attack from another.
Net deck if it helps you or don't it ultimately doesn't matter...
I will have fun playing regardless of the deck my opponent has. Right now with the game being well balanced there is no Yata or anything overly broken.
So in the words of Justi Uecki Tylor, " Do... Whatever you want!"
See I was working on the assumption that we would meet at the table. Therefore an UZI has a distinct advantage.
He's saying that the metagame allows for a bit of sneak attack potential. The stick wins, from behind when they are not expecting it. That's how IQ won money with Shimmer in Chicago.
Less than stellar field, maybe. Good match-ups, definitely. That is what makes this game so damn great... match-ups are key. The Uzi does lose, everytime, if it gets the wrong match-up. The stick can build that L-shaped 60 foot pole that knocks the shooter out before he sees the target.
Actually I have thought about this alot in the hours since my post and in the morning when I can read what I write a little better I will post a new thread highlighting the benefits of netdecking and the tier 1 mentality to the Vs. community, drawing inspiration from the chinese studies of Dynastic Cycles.
Stu that is exactly what I was saying, this game has very good balance, and there is more than one way to win.
Why do all girls show their tummies?
Why do guys wear football jerseys when they are not on a team?
People always want to imitate.
I buy the same shoes and play with the same tennis racket as Agassi.....but you know what, I am not ranked in the top 5.
Let the copiers copy.
I can give my son (11) the car keys but he can't drive.
I'm not affraid of anyone playing, with a copied deck or not.
I do my best and hope for good cards. It is a card game after all.

What would a stick deck be like? I guess we are talking non-netdeck. Does the Rigged Election 2nd place Indy deck qualify?
In my opinion a stick deck is a deck that honestly doesn't belong at a PCQ or higher tournament. It's a deck that if played by the best VS. player in the world(whoever that is) would be hard pressed to win a match at a PCQ or higher barring a stick VS stick matchup.
To me the RE deck was a one-shot attempt by some solid Magic players to metagame to a 5-2 record. They were hoping it would be consistent enough and yet so far off everyones radar that they could cruise to 4-3 and get 5-2 easily. Then they would draft their way into the Top 8.
Stick decks(have we coined some new VS lingo) are born when someone lets their emotions get the better of their intellect and make card choices on what's cool when it happens, yet it rarely happens. You know when you draw your whole deck with Primary Directive. Stuff like that.
I'm glad you were able to let your intellect win out at the PC. I would hope when you are truly playing casually that you slide the PD back in your sentinel builds. On the other hand, you really aren't preparing yourself for SoCal if you don't playtest at the highest level.
Of course GenCon SoCal will be affected by WOS and Superman right.
Anyways sorry for the ramble.....
Oh and I love it when those female tummies are sexy...
The topic is not about me disliking people who play net decks or those who use those same decks! I could really careless. My concern is what they are not playing with, It would be an imposible for every deck to be 100% original but so long as thats what we strive for I believe the top 8's at tournies would be a little more divirse! As the old saying goes two heads are better than one. I am not saying I think net decking is wrong just that those who do it aren't contributing to the way other decks could be getting played! To sum it all up I guess I am trying to say there might be those out there with a way to unlock the LOA's(as an example) potential but there to busy net decking!
Very good players get very excited when new cards come into an environment. They test and retest everything. There are some decks they might not think of and those get found by someone eventually.
Not every deck is good enough to win enough to win a PCQ. That's why we will continue to see a character/PT/location added for teams as the metagame gets tweaked.
The only way I would meet a guy with an uzi at a table with a stick in my hands, Would be if I were Bugs Bunny. Plug the hole and backfire! (Now there's an idea for a Vs. set Looney Toons!)
I would wait unti; my opponent got overconfident and got sloppy, Look for holes in thier plan of attack, or wait until they got so used to being unchallenged they fell asleep with it in thier hands, then they learn the finer point of the stick!
"Fools Never attack from the front!" So says Sun Tzu... No wait that was Vegeta!
The other interesting element in this subject is that without lots of people playing 'net-decks' (or at very least playing decks that are somewhat predictable in the instance of a new set), people coming to town with their sticks might find themselves stuck.
What I am trying to say is that often the sticks will create a lot of their power by having clear targets in terms of beating the established decks. Once you have a straight stickfight, suddenly it will come down to whoever has the most standard consistent deck.
Be thankful that there are enough people working on creating an established metagame that it is possible to go all anti-establishment with your sticks.
I will be writing a thread on the benefits of net decking I was going to do so today... but I came up with a better idea so it wil have to wait till tommorow... Check out rating the heroes of the realm, and pat your favorite player on the back today.
Be thankful that there are enough people working on creating an established metagame that it is possible to go all anti-establishment with your sticks.
Absolutely correct. Is it just me, or does this game give stick decks a better chance than the others?
