That's surprising to me. I know that I would make sure a game play error was fixed, friend or not. I'm definitely cynical, and agree that it's not likely that most would do the same, but I wouldn't hesitate.
Of course, as Erick said to me, 'I'm fortunate that my friends don't make those kinds of mistakes'...
Thanks zio - someone's got to be a scapegoat, and I'm best suited for the job;)
Erick: oh please! Everyone knows that they're all just puppets and you pull the string;)
Erick<>VS Mastermind
PC Puppeteer

Erick cannot be stunned.
All of your characters except Erick get +20 ATK / +20 DEF while Erick is non-stunned.
While Erick is in play, players from SoCal will make the Top 8.
If Rob Leander is your opponent, you must remove Erick from your deck and cry like Nancy Kerrigan.
"I ate Kergy's spleen! And you think YOU can stop me? MUAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!"
Kergy great article. i must state that i do not envy the guy who called for the judge, but i do applaud him. I do not know that i would have had the courage to do the same in his shoes. Anywho, nice writing.
lbx!
Originally posted by cdaniel The situations are not the same. While it is true we can not fix an error that was made in a completed match, that does not apply to cheating. IF the guy cheated, it doesn't matter how long after the fact it is, he can still be DQed.
Sorry to revive an old thread, and I'm not sure if this is the right place to post it - but the above paragraph, got me thinking for a bit...
When someone gets caught cheating after a completed match; yes, we will DQ him even if the round is completed. But would it be correct to say the results of the completed round are cast in stone, or can we go back and change them? Even if we could, do we / should we?
Lets just say, for example - it's round 5 out of 7 in the swiss rounds. Table x completes the game, and Player A loses. He reports to a judge that he thinks his opponent (Player B) is cheating, but he can't tell for sure; he suspects his opponents deck is marked.
When round 6 starts, the judges do a deck check on Player B's table cards.
We find a) his deck is stacked, b) his cards/sleves are marked.
He gets DQ'd in round 6. His current opponent wins by default; what happens to the match results for round 5? For that matter, what happens to the match results for rounds 1 to 4? Lets just say assuming, Player B has won all matches from 1-5 prior to match 6?
On the same vein; if during a match, a player strongly suspects his opponent is playing with a marked deck - what should he do; and what should we do, as judges, if halfway through a match, we get feedback that someone might be cheating with a marked deck in an ongoing game? (Either from a player; or from a bystander...)
In your example I would not change the results of the previous round. While he may have been cheating the entire tournament, we can not go back and change the results of prior mathces if the new round has already been paired and has started.
If we did, this would ruin the integrity of the tournament as a whole because people will have played opponants they should not have played based on the new results. It would completely throw off tiebreaks and cause gennerl problems in future pairings and final standings.
While it is nice to catch cheaters sooner rather than later, you can only enforce the penelty from that point on.
