I don't get why so many Vs fans are so closed minded. Indy VS would rock. TMNT. Hellboy. Spawn. Those would be great VS cards. I thought this was a COMIC BOOK game. Last time I checked there are superheroes around in comics that aren't Marvel and DC. If they did a Dark Horse set I wouldn't mind seeing Buffy in there, as she sort of fits the comic book mold. Hellboy for sure would rule in VS, and anyone who says otherwise is insane.
Before anyone after this responds, let me state something. All of you who want something else, and all of you who want VS to stay the same, listen.
VS could encompass many things. The word there is could. I am not going to use the words should, cannot or will. All I will use is can. Now, there are also many things that could hapen. The sun could go supernova as you are reading this, thus sending all of this arguement down the drain as no more sets will comeout when everyone is dead. George Lucas could buy Marvel comics and have a movie with Luke Skywalker, Wolverine and the end of the Sith mixed with some Dark Phoenix saga. Howver, none of these things should happen. VS could have a Buffy set and a Hellboy set and an Archie set and a Star Wars set and a/an(INSERT ANYTHING THAT HAS BEEN A COMIC BOOK HERE) set. Indy comics could be integrated into VS and Spawn and TMNT could possibly team up against Bolivar Trask and his army of Hellboys. Now any of you out there who are reading this and think that VS should have things other than DC and are going to quote me and say something stupid about how I am saying this, remember these words of advice.
Just because something could happen, doesn't mean it should.
All that said and done, I would be surprised if there isn't a set or two that would encompass some other non-Marvel/DC sets. I personally do not want to see VS become a game that can serve anything and everything in its sets. However, I understand that other people would want a set for their favorite comics. I personally don't like DC and probably would be okay if there had only been a Marvel TCG without DC. UDE still went on ahead though and made a DC origins set. Now, I am okay with the new JLA set and was even fine by the Green Lantern Corps set. Why am I saying this? Because I understand that some people might not want something new into a game that has finally made Marvel and DC comics into a good TCG. Comic book fans have been waiting for a long time for a game that allowed for everything that a Marvel or DC fan could want. In VS, lots of people are finally happy and content. They might not want to see change in a game that they have grown to like almost as much as their comic book collection.
Anyway, to summarize for all of those who do not want to read my whole post, VS could become more than Marvel and DC, shouldn't(IMO), but if it does, than deal with it.
Good grief, how many times are we gonna go through this topic? Vs. System should be kept to "comics only" plain and simple. Anyone who disagrees should be shot at.
I think the reason why alot of people love to play Vs. System is because it stays true to the comics especially the card effects. I just don't see why UDE would intentially break that essence of the game like that.
Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, X-Men, Justice League, we all grew up with these guys because we've seen them in animated series on tv, movies, and such including comics.
I just recently got a new player into Vs. System because he heard the game was based on comics and he loves Batman the most so I made him a deck based around Batman.
Plus you got to take this into consideration. When it comes to games like these it's all about license ownership and whoever can nab the rights to it first. Some stuff like Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, TMNT, Star Wars, and LOTR already have their own TCG's!
Companies like Wizards of the Coast, the ones that created Magic: The Gathering aren't gonna let a company like UDE take the Star Wars license from them for their own TCG. It just doesn't work that way.

Cant we just say, keep it to super heros and villans in comics, not comics in general. It would be silly to have homer simpson attacking. Anyone can say, well this is a comic and that is a comic, but are there super hero's involved. (not the thundercats, or power rangers or anything like that, but supe heros.) I would however like to see Captain Nemo and his crew show up, but I dont see that happening. (league of extrodinary gentlemen)
I am a comic book fan (Have nearly 3000). I enjoy comic books very much and love that the game is based on them (for now).
However, if UDE brought more properties into the system, it would have the ability to expand the game greatly. As it is, most people don't buy whole boxes of older sets. Instead they buy the single cards that are needed in a deck they have.
What is to stop you from doing this if they came out with an Indy set for example? You don't like a team... Don't play it. Plain and simple. If you do however like a few select cards from the set, buy them and shut up.
There are some thing I would dislike to see as a VS card. If the game stays good, do I care? No. I play the game to have fun. If bashing Batman's head in with Duke's fist (G.I. Joe) is fun, I'm all for it.
No one is going to force you to buy cards you don't want. If you want to limit your card pool to prove a point, be my guest. It just means that anyone who is smart enough is going to utilize everything they can (AND WIN).
Another thing to remember is that many peolple who play VS don't have any interest in comics whatsoever. Many Magic players have gotten into VS because it is a solid game system. Some of them may never have even read a comic.
If giving up a a part of the VS system to get other players invlved works, I'm all for it. More players means a better experience for everyone. Yes comic books are great, but what is even better is writing your own comics and watching it unfold before your eyes.
Everyone is saying that they don't want to see their favorite comic book character get whompped on by some TV hack. But lets reverse that. Even you skeptics must admit that watching Wolverine tear Darth Vader a new one would be about as awesome as it gets.
I myself am a comic fan too. yet I don't want to see Indy comics set with the current VS game OR see any of the TMNT, GI Joe, etc be brought into the game. TMNT, GI Joe etc were cool for their time, yeah it would be ncie to see the TMNT beat down the X-Men but then I sit and think to myself can these properties keep putting out sets just as much as Marvel and DC properties can?
DC and Marvel are very succeful for 2 reasons:
1) A strong comic base - Tons and tons of history to pull from. DC and Marvel are long standing comic franchises. They can constantly pull from the history and bring out teams and characters that comic fans love.
2) A Loyal fanbase. VS system brought in many people because they were namely comic fans. This game allows you to pit classic battles like Dr. Doom vs The Fantastic 4 or even do battles that people want to see like Avengers vs the JLA etc.
A reasons why I personally don't want Indy characters in the VS system. I am unfamiliar with most of the characters. I grew up on Spider-Man, Batman, Superman, The X-men etc. I familiarize with tehm so I am bias.
Now here is some things to look at. UDE likes properties that make them Money as do every company that does. Marvel and DC have a rich comic character base and history to where they can constantly pull out sets. Each comic history has a unvierse it is set to so everything is cohesive - It really flows together. Everyone has a place. While Indy comics some characters are above and beyond god like powers and some are underwhemling weak on the scale. VS system does have solutions to this but also Indy comics usually don't have 1 solid universe. They all exsist within their title. Another reason to look at is can Indy comics constantly put out sets? Marvel and DC can do it because of their history and character base. VS system works in teams but how many indy characters are team based? Only a few.
What I am looking at is one big thing: If UDE decides to bring in other properties into the VS mix I hope this game doesn't suffer from the Pokemon/Yu Gi Oh syndrome where it gets huge and just crashes. It may be a bit elitist to keep VS system Marvel and DC only but if it keeps the game alive then be it.
People DO realize that there is more to this than UDE just up and deciding to do this.
The fact that they are able to get Marvel AND DC to agree to do this is enough already.
Do you think DC or Marvel would ALLOW UDE, even IF they made a deal with other companies, to get 'equal billing'.
Do you think that Marvel or DC would let UDE bascially USE the popularity of the 'big two' to ADVERTISE for their lesser competitors [by essentially 'forcing' the consumers of Vs. to at least 'look at' an Indy set which will feature a ton of Indy characters]
If UDE is forced to decide between DC (or Marvel) and ANY other liscence ... guess which one is more vital? A GIANT bird in hand is worth more than even ten in the bush in this case.
Not to mention, they'll have to do a LOT of negotiations to get certain properties. Especially 'cross platform' groups, that have appeared as toys, in TVs, in movies, in comics, etc ... because likely the comics are already liscenced from someone else ... so going to Dark Horse wouldn't necessarily give them access to all the comic properties that Dark Horse makes [unless Dark Horse is able to sign away the rights that it is only paying for, and doesn't actually own ... which is probably unlikely]
There's an economic feasibility issue here ... they have to make it 'worth their while' to do Indy sets.
What is to stop you from doing this if they came out with an Indy set for example? You don't like a team... Don't play it. Plain and simple. If you do however like a few select cards from the set, buy them and shut up.
Good point. I don't want to have to play my Squadron Supreme deck against a Spawn deck or whatever deck that would come out, though. Even if I didn't want to buy the cards, someone would use them and I would be forced to play them. I really don't want to have to refuse to play someone based off of the type of deck that they run. You might tell me right now that I need to get over it, but there are people (read the forum for some of them) who don't actually want to have to play against people running an Indy deck.

That would be awesome, but also would be something that would mean the game has gotten out of hand. I love Star Wars. I don't want to see Star Wars in VS. If UDE somehow was able to get the rights to Star Wars, then I wouldn't want VS to include Star Wars characters. I probably would buy them if they were in a different game that UDE would put out. If that other game was VS with a different name, then I would like even that. If it had the same name as VS and the same back of the card as VS, I would not enjoy that.

Bartman attacking would be awesome and you know it.
There are superheroes besides Marvel and DC. VS is a superhero game, and it should encompass more than just Marvel and DC. Heroclix did an Indy set, I don't see why VS shouldn't. Indy didn't do as well, but they are thinking of new ways to introduce Indy clix, like special sets.
Bartman? If VS. gets Bartman as a character, I will leave VS and burn all of my cards because that would mean that VS has gone so low that they ave to use Simpsons characters. While there are superheroes outside of Marvel and DC, lots of people, not all, want VS to only encompass Marvel and DC. They had Indy Heroclix. That part sucked so badly. That was an attempt to have Indys in a game with marvel and DC. It failed. If they do have Indy sets, I'll be unhappy because I really don't want to have a set with all of those Indy characters. I understand that some people want their favorite comic book heroes introduced into VS. If UDE wanted to encompass the Indy comics in a set, they could create an Indy set. I don't really want them to, but if they do, then that is that. However, what if the Indy comics had their own game? The rules could be the same, the cards could be the same, only the backs of the cards wouldn't have the VS logo on the back. Would that be a bad thing? If somebody didn't even care, they could put them in sleeves and nobody could tell, only that they wouldn't technically be part of the same game.
hulkmania85: Is my idea a good one? Do you think that if UDE would do this, you could stop complaining? This actually goes out to all people that want VS to include Indy comics. Do any of you think that my idea, of a game that functioned exactly the same as VS with a different name and logo, would work? Also to all of those that think that VS should stay with Marvel and DC, do you think that this idea would work?

Personally I think that idea won't fly for fans of Indy comics. They want to play their characters in the VS system. The only problems I see with bringing an Indy franchise into VS system is to be able to have constant content to draw from. UDE will need to be able to put out sets for Indy comcis every 3 months. I'm not sure if they will be able to do that. Plus they will need to get liscencing for the Indy comics. Big run ins UDE will have if they are trying to get Indy comics in VS.

Indy Heroclix was a letdown because they didn't have enough big names to sell the set. Biggest one was probably Hellboy, and his movie hadn't come out yet. Maybe an Indy VS set would have better luck if they could get some bigger names.
I'm not complaining about Indy characters not being in the game. If anything I'm just dissapointed that so many VS fans are closed minded about the idea. I can't be the only one who wants to see Hellboy vs. Wolverine or Spawn v. Spider-Man.
