Well first off, y'all need fix yourselves up a bit before they put you on TV. Lose some weight, shave, put on a clean shirt. Yeah, all a that. Being socially awkward is not an excuse to stop showering.
Stu, just when I thought you've already made the gayest thread ever, you totally go above and beyond the call of gay thread duty, BRAVO! YOU ARE A CHAMPION!
You know I'm the only VS player with the personality to bring a CCG mainstream, but I refuse to do it, the world need not see the things I've seen. Seriously, who wants to watch a bunch of dorks play with pieces of cardboard they protect with plastic sleeves?
Well, the only thing I could think of to get mainstream is to go the route of comptetive eating. Recently, especially here in Philly with the wing bowl, competitve eating has become mainstream. VS has some real gems of out of shape fat people that love greasy food. If they could some incorperate their uncontrollable urge to overindulge and binge eat along with playing cards...
If someone could do a hand stand on another persons shoulders while drinking a Dr. Pepper, then VS would become more popular than magic. Oh where to find Tim Batow when you need him.

No, Stu. Poker is not a sport, it is a game.

sport (spôrt) n.
1..a. Physical activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively.
...b. A particular form of this activity.
2. An activity involving physical exertion and skill that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often undertaken competitively.
Poker will never be in the Olympics because it is not a sport. It is a game that can be played professionally, and is certainly an intellectual exercise. But it still doesn't qualify as a sport, because there is no physical exertion OR physical skill involved.
That being said, I think some television airtime and a few good table-flipping episodes on prime-time would do the game some wonders in terms of visibility.
Okay. I concede. I'll start working on the Vs. System Competitive Eating Rumble-thon 24 Hour Throwdown. That should appeal to Americans everywhere. It'll be like a tri-athalon. And don't count me out. I actually won a pumpkin pie eating contest once.
Why are you guys so melodramatic, killin people and stuff....
Look, all you need to do, is get into some large scale Pro-Team/turf war in Atlanta.....Just show up in your team colors, swap your barns in for random hot chicks, and pack some heat....
Player 1: Okay, I am gonna Swing with Surfer for the Win....
Player 2: Umm, no you ain't....*click*
Player 1: On seconed thought, I think I'll scoop....
It'll be the hottest thing in the nation. Like, live action Gangsta YuGiOh, with Plot twists at every turn!

That's not entirely true. A good deal of effort is put in by professional players to control their hormonal levels and facial motions so as to minimize their tells. Not exactly body-building, I know, but at least there couldn't be any steroid debacles, right? Well... assuming Arnold's next big move after governorship of California isn't into the World Series of Poker, that is. ^_^
Ok, that is true. Being able to turn your tells off is a skill like acting. It is being able to turn off the things that a pro can cold-read. Your level of sweat, how often you blink (did you know when people lie, they blink alot more? Nixon's blink-rate when talking on TV about Watergate was sky-high. Any cold-reader could tell Nixon was lying), things like raising an eye-brow when you have a good hand, twirling your watch or tapping a finger when you have a bad hand or are bluffing, etc.
However, comparing those skills to an actual sport that involves physical exertion is like saying being able to flex your ass-muscles so that it doesn't fall asleep when you are sitting for a long time without a need for standing up and stretching is a physical skill that qualifies one for a sport. As much as some of us would love that (and be "pro-level" to boot), it just...isn't in the cards, so to speak.
I think the main argument here is not whether or not VS is a sport, it's clearly not a physical sport by the definition. But whether it's worthy of some sort of exposure on ESPN or what not for it's professional events such as the Pro Circuit.
I saw someone say that VS was "just guys sitting in a room playing cards." I agree with that, it's hard not to agree with that, but isn't Poker the exact same thing? Of course it's different cards and most definitely a hell of a lot more people playing with a higher cash reward. But it's shown on ESPN on a constant basis, as well as many other channels (Fox Sports Net, etc).
You see, using just regular logic, you should be able to say that if Poker can be shown on ESPN then VS can be shown on ESPN.
