I've looked at this thing for hours now. One extra thing, I think, and maybe this is totally wrong, but all the Zatanna's I have and other JLA cards I've seen down at the bottom near the copy right stuff say "(So5)", but his says "(So4)". Am I wrong, does anyone else have one that says (So4)???
"There's not time to be confused." is a sentence.... Most people would say 'there's NO time to be confused,' but I don't know maybe it does factor in somehow.
Grammatically, I'm wrong.
but thematically....I'm wrong too.
(I first wrote "there isn't time", the rewrote "There's no time", but the extra T snuck back in)
Ignore the extra T.
Picture text has been edited.
And now back to our regularily scheduled puzzling.
"When is a game not a game?", to which I answered "When it's afoot" (it's a pun, look it up), to signal the begining of the game.
But now I have a new answer. "When it's a match."
Game, set, match, to be precise. Yes, the puzzle has been solved, and in fine form, by a Realms regular, !3ullseye. Either he or I will be posting a deconstruction of the puzzle soon in this (and the other threads).
So, the game is over....or is it. Stick around, true believer!
Okay, the puzzle is solved, and I know I hate to be left in the dark, so here is the official deconstruction of the Zatanna Mystery, for people like me.
Skipping looking at the card entirely, the first clues are hidden within the text. The words "Something is different" is a hint to notice all the changes made in the card to the left.
As well, the words "disarrayed" and "confused" are synonyms of rearranged and mixed up, a hint towards the end anagram. This is further reinforced by the "It's 6 now, and soon it'll be 7" line, referring to the six words inserted into the card, and that you'll need to make 7 words out of them.
I realise making an anagram out of 25 letters was a bit tough, which is why I tried to use the solution words in the text, to get your mind subconciously on the right track. In the end, I made the final sentence the actual solution to the puzzle. Once you anagrammed a word or two, you'd notice the sentence and put it all back together.
The final clue is hidden message running up the side of the text box. Taking the first letter of each line spell sout a secret message, written in the same way as Zatanna's flavour text, telling you to "Reverse it".
!3ullseye sent me three answers, one frontwards, one entirely backwards, and one with just the spoken words in reverse. If you didn''t have to say them in reverse, then your cards would have returned when you "wonder aloud, 'how will this RETURN MY CARDS TO ME?'"
So, that's how it was done. This was my first puzzle, and I did receive a lot of feedback, questions, criticisms, and, let's face it, not too serious answers. I'll address them now.
Q: Why not sell the misprinted Zatanna card? Etc, etc.
A: I got a SUPRISING amount of those as answers. Sure, you COULD sell a misprint and get a lot. Or you could try to sell a counterfeit card and get beaten up or investigated by UDE for fake cards. ;)
Q: What's with the grammatical error? "There's not time to waste", is the extra 'T' a clue of some sort?
A: When typing in Paint, I have no spel check, and I was rushing to get it onto the Realms that night, so I missed a typo. You should see how many typo's I caught though!
Q: Andy Brase is an artist, shouldn't TURNER be the only word included in the anagram?
A: While Andy Brase is an artist (my favorite to be precise, for his work on the 'Justice League of Arkham' team up card), he wasn't the actual artist of the ZAtanna card. The solution to the puzzle was to include all changes to the card. As a side note, the people that spotted the difference between the copyright logo, I thank you for being dilligent, but Migga's Card Editor won't let me touch that part of the card.
So, I'd like to thank Andy Brase, wherever he may be, for inspiring me to do this puzzle. Let's see some more art in the next sets! Don't be suprised if another one of my puzzles down the road indlues Insectoid Troopers in it!
Thanks again, and keep an eye out for the next round of my puzzles. Ciao!
Oh, I completely forgot. The Prize Package that I will be sending to !3ullseye
1) EA SNIKT!
2) 3 random Vs. booster packs, chosen form all sets ('cept DSM, it's out of stock here)
3) A blank playmat, courtesy of Alias Gaming Supplies (my playmat company). Measuring 24x12 inches, with a white polyester top, and a black rubber backing, it is ner identical to UDE prize playmats. Perfect for getting screen printed for original art, or getting a famous artist to draw a sketch onto at the next ComicCon!
4) I was going to browse his H/W list, and give him a rare/foil from it, but since !3ullseye doesn't have one, I will just be including an extra pack of cards.
Remember, for each of my puzzles, I will be giving away an identical prize pack (with different EA cards), so keep that in mind when you're trying to solve them. Greed is a great motivator!
Okay Flashback. Your answer was as actually clever and well thought out in the end. I just had a horrible feeling its was going to be something.... Price-like? Price-less?
