OMG!!!!!! Deathstroke FINALLY GOT SOME LOVE!!! w00t!! And it says he has 2 versions! SWEET! And another thing.....
I WANT THAT SUPERMAN, NOW!
I love you Alex Ross..that art is wonderful. It's a sad picture though...Superman is so old in that picture... Age finally catch the man of steel? Is...is he leaving Earth..? I don't think DC will EVER let Superman go for good...but still, the thought....makes me feel kinda...empty? God, I'm such a DC fanboy.
But really, Supes is my hero. Not just because he's cool and indestructible, and what not. Because he's so nice and willing to do all in his power to help who he can. Hell, he even abandoned the possibility of EVER leading a normal life to be Superman full-time. Sure, he was tacky. He wore his underwear wrong. His disguise was glasses and a different posture. But...he was the representation of a superhero...indestructible not just in body, but in spirit, moral, and kindness.
Sorry, fanboy moment.
I LOVE THIS SET!!! I'm going to the Pre-Release, no matter. I'm THERE!!!!!!

He's old probably because its actually Kal-L (or earth 2 Supes)
IT FRUSTRATES ME TO NO END to think the developers believe this to be a curve based game. Six drops are all awful, and most have abilities worse than four drops.
Originally posted by Wrathraven I agree it's kinda silly to give him the Deathstroke affiliation unless they're going to expand it (in this set or the next), but at least they're planning for the future.
I assume it's for consistency reasons, as the other (presumably smaller) version of Deathstroke in this set probably also has both teams.
Remember, Lil' Deathstroke + Team-up + Reign of Terra + Slade Wilson = everybody's a Villains United member on turn 7! Hooray for ridiculously circuitous combos!

Originally posted by spadeoftheace it only seems logical that crisis is gonna be the team with alexander luthor, superman 2, superboy 3, etc etc. They were/are all really important characters so they arent gonna be left out of the set, and there isn't any other team out of the ones revealed for them to be in, so it really has to be crisis.
Kal-L was a member of the JSA, and Alex and Superboy-Prime were responsible for both Checkmate and Villains United.
They're covered. ;)

Yeah, that's Kal-L alright. You can tell because of golden age inspired symbol.
1.) He effectively cannot be used in many teamup decks. All I have to do is neuter your teamup plot twist and force you to use another and suddenly he's just a weak 7.
2.) If Villains United have anything other than a different version of Mountain Stronghold for their tutor, you can't tutor for him on 7. Well, you can, but why would you bother?
3.) No plot twists per turn -> no PT-based attack pumps. Hm. Boy, I hope Villains United ALSO have location-based attack pump, or a simple Acrobatic Dodge will render his ability meaningless if I attack with him into your 7.
4.) Alternately, maybe I stack my 7 behind my 6, because Deathstroke doesn't, like, fly. You stun my 6 and there's no stunback, shucky darn.
Bottom line: he's inflexible without a ton of support. I'm not saying he's bad - if the Villains United have sufficient non-plot-twist support he's great. But if they don't? Dollar rare.

Not being splashable doesn't make a character bad. I would have been peeved if this guy didn't have loyalty.
You can tutor before 7th turn you know
He has high attack so he can naturally stun people. with an ability that KOs anyone, i'm pretty sure it's a small price to pay.
He gets a fair shot at your 6, and you are 'forced' to try to not stun him back, sounds like a good deal to me. plus with attack power like that you probably want to reinforce as well.

I could see it being Maxwell Lord if we are talking about important players, but would it be all that shocking if it was Brother Eye as the champion ? Yes, we know he/it has a location card in this set, but that doesn't stop there from being both a location and character named Mogo :p.
Frosty frog has a magnificent point, but I'm quite unsure if it'll happen. I think maxwell lord maybe the champion for the check mate soceity. As for shadow pact I've got to hand it to Dr.Fate, I would say why but spoilers are such a naughty thing. The jsa one is a toughy seeing as how there are so many members, but I would haft to say either mr.terrific or Kal-L.

1. Team-ups are getting harder and harder to shoot down these days. There are only a few Silver Age cards that don't specify non Team-Up. And it's a non-issue for mono-team decks.
2. Being as it's turn 7, you very likely could have drawn him before then. And if not, you search for him on 6. Again, a non-issue.
3. His 17 attack is enough to stun almost any 7-drop without any need of help. Not being able to use PTs in the heat of combat is the card's biggest weakness, but it's something you can potentially work around. And Acro Dodge isn't legal for Modern anyway, AND the format doesn't really use them much outside of maybe Helping Hand.
4. So you protect your 7-drop, so what? Are you going to swing back with him into Deathstroke? You're not mentioning his defensive abilities at all. IMO, he's more scary on defense than offense. You attack him, be prepared to lose your next best attacker.
While speculating, remember that the Champions are the ones with the Other-Earth/Earth's Mightiest Heroes effects ...
That means they won't necessarily all have Vengence ... but they will have an effect you can only use if you aren't using ANY plot twists that turn.
So, in general ... it has to be someone worthy of a 7-drop for said team ... and someone that would have an appropriate power.
While Alex [and to a lesser extent] Superboy are responsible for the OMACs ... they are only tangentially responsible. It mostly had to do with manipulating Brother I ... most of it was actually done by Checkmate. The team is said to be split into the OMAC related part, and the more clandestine parts.
My guess:
Max Lord ... he's the Black King ... so he can match drops with Marvel's own Black King, Sebastian Shaw. And, his ability to manipulate characters could involve a steal ... or perhaps a Prof X 7-drop [MOR] type effect that is nasty enough to warrant a no plot-twists restriction.
[Although a Checkmate affiliated Superman would be sweet ... and there's a chance we could see a Lazurus Protocol <> Omac Robot ...]
For the JSA ... they have a few big names. Superman of Earth 2 will find his way onto the team [with a dual team affiliation of Crisis or Team Superman] he COULD be the Champion for the JSA. There's quite a few 'big names' on the team ...
For the Shadowpact ... I do like the idea of Captain Marvel, since he did act as the 'Champion' for the team going toe to toe with Spectre [at least early on].
However ... Vengence should be all over the set.
Spectre NEEDS to have that keyword, obviously.
Brother I implemented "vengence protocol" after Diana killed Max ... so that could be a way to give characters the Vengence keyword. We've already heard it's going to be a theme for the Villains United.
If they make Nabu [or possibly just whatever version of Dr. Fate] they should give him the Vengence trait to show how he 'sacrificed' himself to get Spectre in trouble with the boss.
Actually ... considering how they've talked about Shadowpact ... they could be giving them Vengence keywords as well ... but unlike the Villains it might be more sacrificial [i.e. combined with Evasion ... which their already spoiled 8-drop gives them ... with invulnerability on top of that ... hmm]
