The Sneak was so much fun. We had a smaller turnout than the X-Men Sneak, but it was still about 35 people. In my last match of the day I had played Power Girl on 6, on seven I missed so i boosted Superman, effectively making Power Girl ad himself really small 7 drops, it's his init and he stuns both my guys (thanks to him actually having a 7 drop) and gets me down to 2 End. I keep Power Girl during recovery. I don't have an 8 drop so I hope for the best when I draw lo and behold another Superman, I boost again to give Power Girl 4 counters and then I pay my final resource point to give Superman reinforcement (some ongoing plot twist) and then attack for 20 or 21 with power girl into his 7 drop. GG.
It was my favorite play of the day and it was a total fluke.
This was my first VS tournament of any sort other than the Hobby League I run at my local game store.
Everyone I met down at Eudemonia in Berkeley was very friendly. All of my opponents were a blast to play. The folks from Cascade games did a top notch job running the event.
Because of this, I'm actually considering giving a PCQ a try some time down the road. Many moons ago, I played in a few Magic tournaments. I got really turned off by the people involved. They were competitive to the point of being downright rude and hostile. At that point I had more or less sworn off of competitive play. The players and judges at Infinite Crisis sneak preveiw have helped me to rethink that position.
I really enjoyed the bouncing endurance cards that Shadowpact brought to the game. I'm looking forward to having a fully fleshed out constructed Shadowpact deck when the set is released.
I got a bit freaked out when I first heard someone describe "Removed from Continuity" as I thought I heard that it removes all characters from the game that had the same Name OR Version. I figured this would be the death of my Kang deck. Fortunately, I heard wrong.
Secret Six intrigues me, since UDE basically holds your hand in telling you how to build the deck. This is necessary, however, as otherwise winning off Secret Six Victorious (splashing Dr. Light, etc) would be way too easy. But even with "printed" affilitation it still seems pretty freakin good. :p
I, like others, think the new set is going to wreck havoc on existing decks. I placed 5th in my local pcq and won the awesome mat! I love the art work. The deck boxes were awesome as well.
I built a JSA/Shadowpact deck and it worked like a charm. Key characters were the hourmen and shazam on turn 6. With regards to the Hourmen, you would think giving your opponent 3 endurance was a bad thing but not in sealed when you characters are reaching the stats of a cost higher than them. Oh yeah... yelling SHAZAM was just so damn fun. I love that card. SHAZAM!
Anyone else getting annoyed that good twists are getting more and more team stamped? I like the fact that straight attack pump twists aren't ubiquitous like say, in Marvel Knights, but it is getting harder and harder to attack up the curve. (except for Bizarro) The most annyoing thing is the lack of KO effects though. I mean what was so bad about death trap. Of the 3 KO effects I saw this weekend, two were team stamped and 1 was rare.
I realize some of the old PTs were too good at their rarity but I hate having to splash a teamup and a few characters just to get mediocre pumps.
Originally posted by SMOKINGSOCRATES Where did all of the attack pumps go? However, we got the better version of acrododge! Lose the nasty art, but watch the birdie.
Watch the Birdie is From the Shadows, not Acro Dodge. There is a Shadowpact stamped Spider-Senses and a generic, "exhaust X characters >>> target defender gets +X DEF".
Best prerelease yet! I did first day at King's and second day at Neutral. Got sixth in the latter which netted me good booty. Y'know those Vs. groupies (j/k obviously). Best part of pre-release: Playing without many mistakes and playing nice players. Worst part: It's a tie. Getting mystically binded on turn 7 so my 7 drop Black Adam was neutered and I couldn't swing for the win. Leaving my deckbox in the Hoboken train station with the EA Dr. Fate and some decent rares (Blinding Rage, Secret Six Victorious)!!!
