Without PCQ prize money, I wouldn't have gotten into the game, and certainly would never have attended a Pro Circuit.
However, at this point they could take away PCQs entirely and I'd still play; the ones I do go to I normally judge. My play is pretty much all PC-related at this point - since 10ks aren't near me, I don't even spend time going to them.
This is hardly solace to players across the pond, but I believe that there are a bunch of European players not hurt at all by the changes, as they at this point are gravy-trained through and through. Having a domestic PC would be far more appealing to Andre Mueller, for example, than I imagine having PCQ giftcards is.
Then again, for the game to succeed, it needs to encourage play from the bottom-upwards and not have incentives be completely top-down, if that makes any sense.
"Everyone can use extra cash! The top 24 finishers will win a total of $10,000.
1st Place $2500 (Prize Card & Check) 24 packs"
That's what, 1200 pounds? and a box of cards.
If I had to pick $2500 or a flight and hotel rooms to play cross country I would take the trip. More so if it was to fly half way around the world.
And looking at the Day of the Hero..I would love that over a Hobby League. As it is, I get one EA card maybe two. As often as I have come in first, the .5 packs would be well worth the $10 a month I pay to play.
Our 1st and 2nd place prizes are strictly worse than yours, but let's assume for the sake of argument that they are the same.
3rd-24th at your tournaments will win you cash. It will win you nothing at the European fake 10Ks.
