With a field as small as TCG's I think value is really in the eye of the beholder. We could all collectively decide that the test prints were crap (which I think they are) and instead of eBaying for 20$+, they'd be worthless. It's really worth what somebody's willing to pay, and that's it.
Of course - it depends on the type of collector you are. A serious card collector who values rarity will look at test cards as a prize because they're so rare. I end to ignore most misprints, but some value them exceptionally highly.
Same with autos - I love autos in general, and that is factored into whether I'm willing to trade higher for them or not. You stated that they're not your thing, so it makes perfect sense that you don't judge their value like I do. :)
I like to take a small brush (it can't be synthetic) and using nail polish remover, clean off the background art on some cards so it's only the character. It turns most cards into a Flying Kick-looking card.
Also, because I hate the current art, all of my Acrobatic Dodges are cleaned off, and I added these sweet Spider-man stickers made of super-thin cell. Like the decals on a plastic model, or a temporary tatoo. You can barely feel there's a sticker when you touch it, and you can't tell at all in sleeves. They rock.
As long as the art and most of the text is fine, the card is too. I have a TTGO that I accidentally crossed off breakthrough so in big bold I put "No Breakthrough" with a sad face on it. :(
Also have three Garth's that says "Recruit Me, Dammit", "I am better than You!" and "Ow! My Eye!"
We wrote all over every single card in Adam Prosak's Faces of Evil Deck.
I am currently involved in a trade for a signed card.
Do you think this will affect playability? Because here's the problem: It's an Enemy of my Enemy. I need it to put me one closer to the 4 I need for my deck, and I would actually plan on playing it(sleeved, of course). I am finding it very very difficult to get these, however, and would hate to have a card I couldn't play, and still have to get two more. What are the chances that a judge would rule it unplayable? I'm waiting to find out of any of the text is obscured, but if it is, could I just carry around a copy of the OCR? Would a judge allow that? Would anyone care, since it's Enemy, and everyone knows what it does? :P
To be honest, I'll probably trade anyway, just because I loved signed cards. Just curious on the rulings on such things.
