Personally, I've always loved Alternate Art cards.
Those too, the alternate art cards are also quite awesome, like what they did with cover fire, and Acrobatic dodge, except make them mordern legal versions, that'd be pretty cool.
Especially with World's Finest around the corner, why not do some promo versions of Bat Signal, Wayne Manor, Batmobile, etc etc, so that they are modern legal with the new set?
What if UDE had a small set of legacy cards that were ONLY given as prize support @ tournaments. Figure they could do 6 extra cards per set that are not part of the set, but would maybe follow theme of the set. Since we have 3 months between releases you could do one card that is only for top 4, and the other card as participation.
The other thing that would work out Tournament packs. 4 random Rares from the set with one being an EA.
The idea is to have something that you can only get from playing these tournaments available and have something that you are guarunteed to get for just showing up that you wouldn't otherwise be able to get and something extra for the winners. Play matts are nice and all, but how many do you actually need before you have enough. I have four now and getting another one is nice, but it doesn't get me drooling.
Thats what we need, is prize support to drool over. And consistancy between events to have the SAME prize support guarunteed (if the stores want to throw in a little something something as extra, that's fine.) But minimum level that rewards the players for coming, and the winners for winning.
EAs particularly AAs. Some of the coolest cards are AAs. These both work for me
Though I'm a huge fan of playmats, (emphasis on the playmat part) tins, and shirts over EAs.
One big gripe about T-shirts...
(/start semi-serious rant)
Hey UDE! Why is it that you give like 5 Smalls and 5 Mediums to your TOs and like 2 XXL. All my friends have like 3 of the Crisis and Heralds shirts and I have 0 because after two people get shirts I'm screwed and just give them to my buddies. Every prerelease was the same thing. Raffle starts, calls two people for Tshirts, everyone else is boned. Its not like us fat people are the minority in the nerd culture. I don't need my nerd stuff exiling me too because I'm fat.
No, I know I would get banned first. It would be a relief, to tell you the truth. And I wouldn't even pull a BackAgain and come back as CaptainIreland on a proxy!
I saw that thread, it was pretty funny.
Please do not commit libel/slander against me. This was explained and discussed with WaKo. I am not BackAgain.
Libel? Slander? For calling you a screenname that you may/may not be?
Methinks someone needs a break from their internet life for a bit....
Yes, because he accusing me of being someone banned from the site and thus breaking the rules? That's the definition, friend. As said, it was already discussed with WaKo. You and Stu were not involved, and have no place in it.
And I have been away for a while, so I'm going to hang out for a while.
Please do not try and start something again. Stick to the topic, or do not post. I will not reply to you here.
Report away, big guy! After you're done with that, look up the legal definition of Libel... I think you're going a bit overboard with your threats.
Here... I'll help you:
DEFINITION: Libel is the publication of a false statement, (and is not a privileged communication) which injures one's business or personal reputation.
A plaintiff who sues for Libel must prove all of the above and be able to demonstrate some type of resulting damage. This could include being shunned by friends and associates, inability to obtain work because potential employers believed the false accusations. Some states allow for a jury to assess damages based generally on reputational harm.
Privileged communication means statements made during judicial proceedings, legislative proceedings, and those made between spouses (in most states). You can lie all you want under these circumstances and not be able to be successfully sued for Libel.
Good luck with proving that stu caused you to be "shunned by friends and associates".
Are we talking about high level events? Because I can't see myself traveling around the country to compete for playmats and shirts. Computers and PS3s would be a little more reasonable...but nothing beats cash and being able to choose what you want to buy. Because after you already have a computer...do you really think you would go compete around the country or world for another....sure you could sell it...but then wouldnt you really prefer cash in the first place.
I would like to see Alternate Art cards also. When we lacked a steady influx of new players, I started collecting them, so the more there are the more I'll have.
I also think comics/graphic novels as prizes is just smart. Especially with the new appeal to the casual base as UDE has tried to create.
I would like to be able to get shirts from sets that I've missed. It seems they are harder to get now because there's no top level tournament (used to get them when making top cut at PCQs) and now you only randomly get them at Sneak Peek/Release Celebrations.
EAs and playmats are always nice and the Tournament Pack seems like a good idea.
while on the topic of prizes, do you think UDE would ever consider some sort of Willie Wonka's Golden Ticket (via UDE Points) to win some kind of prize (EA, redemption for artwork, etc.)? Maybe one day you'll open a pack and get an invite to the pro circuit...nah, it's just a dream, go back to bed...
My newest thoughts on this lean towards the Tournament packs, which would feature say 16 cards, 4 of each, that are EA's that only come in these packs. Each attendant of an event would recieve one of these packs. The packs would not be randomly packed. They would be numbered 1-3 or so, and would work based on the outcome of the event. For example: pack OP-3 is awarded as an attendance award to each player. OP-2 is awarded to each top 8 finisher, and OP-1 is awarded to the first place finisher.
Not to totally lock out people in smaller regions, these tournament packs would also be available online through spending your ude points to purchase them. Sure, they might require a lot of points to get them or something, but this would be a great option.
I love the idea of offering Graphic Novels as prizes, and think the next event we have out here should definitely expirament by including a recent TPB of a hot story line as an additional prize.
I love the point redemption concept, and hope that we see something like EA cards become available through it. If you spend 4800 points you could get an EA Enemy of MY Enemy or an EA Mobilize. If you spend 9600 points, you could get an EA alternate art Enemy or Mobilize or something like that.
This would translate in to nice little extras for those that purchase significant amounts of product, and not so much exclude players that don't buy lots of product. It would be similar to a box topper, since 2400 points is equal to one box of packs (Do point cards exceed 100? I've never seen one worth more than 100).
I'd also love to see movie image cards! Those would be amazing. Sure, there might be licensing issues to deal with there, but if UDE already has the license, is it that much more work to pull something like this off as an alternative to an EA and instead we get and Alternate Art?
Heck, I'd happily work in the envelope stuffing portion and over see the mailing out of prizes, and I'd work for dirt cheap, if that meant we'd get awesome new options!
