Alapai, I see where you're coming from and I applaud you for being devil's advocate.
On the other hand, I seriously doubt someone that has a copy of QuickFate built up hasn't read VSRealms.
I also doubt that they would travel that far and only bring that one deck.
I also doubt that they wouldn't have the ability to build another deck on the spot given how forward these people are being with their cards.
I also doubt that they honestly have that much of a 'spritual connection' with their Quickfate.
I also doubt that people they they will have trouble with someone playing Quicksilver in a fair capacity. Quickz - 'z' for empahsis -, Pumps, and Fate Gear though?
Nah-uh.
Unless you are planning on playing Quickfate there...?
The likelihood of a naive deckbuilder who spontaneously came up with QuickFate who also doesn't check VSRealms or the other ATL VS message board, who travels long distance to play at ATL is pretty low I reckon.
JSYK, this kills the effectiveness of decks that have been built to kill quicksilver. I know it doesn't effect your area if everyone is 'in the know,'
but if other locations follow suit, the tech-savvy of us will be smucked.
So I am not supposed to trust their website? And what if it was a familiar store that I was going to? Let's say I could go back home, where I know there will be Elite Series events. I also know when they will be thanks to websites. Should I still confirm to see if they are going to ban a single card at this store? Or what if I have been to this place before and just wanted to see when it was? Should I call every single time I go to a store just to confirm that they haven't banned anything I've been building with?
That means it's familiar to you so you know some of the people that go there or you just go there period, meaning you would know Quicksilver is banned. As far as the calling thing goes, my rule said if it's an unfamiliar store. If you've been there recently or know the people, then you're all set. Not only that but you read these forums so, there goes that.
I applaud because it seems the right thing to do in your area. I would do the same thing if I was holding one in my area. If someone has a problem with it, then they can take it up UDE. But as others have said, good luck with that.
Regardless, it is a concern if I were to be 'shafted' in such a manner though. Then again, if the people in the store are nice enough and offer alternatives, I wouldn't care. It's not like I need PC points. The cards will be online and honestly, you are playing for competition at this point. Or a playmat if you are really a sucker for those. A good player can take any deck and do well with any deck. A bad player can win with a great deck, but not understand how to win against tough match ups.
And since the VS is now local, it SHOULD be up to the locals to decide what goes on. Even during an Elite series. What UDE is going to punish that store? Please. You have a better chance at getting announcements for a PC by tomorrow.
All sarcasm aside, this is a great move. Make your locals happy, not that one lone stranger who wanders in from nowhere. At least, that is how I see it.
I'd have an issue with it if UDE had been at all interactive with the community in the past months, or had specifically said "NO we like QS as he is!", but since they've been totally absent, taking measures to ensure you guys have the best ES you can have is 100% fine with me.
well I guess I am screwed because I have a business meeting tomorrow in atl and was going to stick around for the es, but I guess I will not waste my time because I have tweeked my deck to play against quickfate and Doomed Earth builds so I guess good luck with the elite series.
Banning QS seems very reasonable, but shouldn't this have been decided at least a couple of weeks ago? If your ES is on Saturday, that's less than 48 hours notice, no?
I could see people being plenty p.o.ed if their decks were tuned to beat QS, or a field that was accomodating QS. It seems like the ban would potentially slew the metagame too drastically at the last minute.
Yes, I read these forums, but that doesn't mean every single person who plays VS does. I know people who play VS who aren't on Realms. I helped someone build a deck using something from a forum (can't remember which). He doesn't check forums. Sometimes I recommend that he go to different events to try them out. He has pretty much one good deck, isn't bad at VS (isn't great, but that is besides the point). Would he travel far? Not really. Would he have one deck that works well and be upset if he couldn't use that deck? Probably.
Coolexplosion: What is your definition of familiarity? If I go there twice, am I familiar with it? If I go there once, am I familiar with it? Let's say I go somewhere once. Should I call the next time I go? I know 3 of the people on this forum personally and know specifically who they are. I probably know more, but am not sure exactly who they are on the forum. If I go to this new shop, am I going to know someone's info? Probably not. Also, it would be easy for me to miss this when reading through the forum.
Bottom Line: I'm not going to argue my point more past this post. My point is that an individual area should not ban a card for an event that is an official UDE event that UDE doesn't specifically ban. I feel it is unfair to certain people, although maybe these people don't exist. If a single person complains about Quicksilver being banned at your event, my point is made valid. Otherwise, I guess it really doesn't matter all that much.
Pi, if you went to neutral for the last Elite series, they have moved. If you go, make sure you take their phone number and their NEW address. They are opening up Friday at their new location. I don't think any of the regulars are going to play quick-fate but that doesn't stop others from playing it. They ALL however have a lot of anti-equipment cards and it wouldn't be advised to run it.
You are ALL wrong! Playing Quicksilver takes a tremendous amount of skill! You have to be a really good player to attack, add attack pumps and attack again.
Also there is no shame in taking 15 minutes of everyones time at PC Indy deciding if reading Quicksilver is the right play! You are obviously a "Quicksilver" player because it took you 15 minutes to decide that! Thank you for prolonging everyone's already long day! (You know who you are.)
PS If you are in fact a "Quicksilver" player, this is a sarcastic post.
Oh, and "Quicksilver" players aren't that "quick."
regardless of your good intentions, if a player shows up with Quickfate and you refuse to let him play with it, your venue/judge/TO could all face serious action by UDE. If you really have the player base you speak of then you should know how to stop the deck and it shouldn't be a problem.
"Banning" your owns cards is not the right way to do things, it leads down a slippery slope. Any future cards interactions that are tough to figure out how to beat will almost instinctively be asked to be banned. That's not how to develop player base. You are a good player, sit down with those guys and explain how to tech against QS.
Whatever, what can they do? "OMG did you hear they took our Elite Series from our store?!" "Oh noes you took away our Elite Series!" ::Look at each other:: "Wanna play Magic the Gathering? Sure, #### Vs it boned us anyways."
If they do something they only screw themselves more. They need to do something about Quicksilver already. I swear it feels like all they do is have keggers and peace pipe meeting at UDE.
