And the larger the set, the more various the draft strategies so that maybe instead of 2 months of good draft, you could get 3 or 4. People to this day still like to draft MTU (right Ekin?).
As much as draft/sealed play drives early sales, a good constructed meta will drive secondary market sales which should help pick up the slump. As for product running out in 3 months, I think UDE would be able to create a 2nd printing if this occurs with MVU so that there is enough product to meet demand (but hopefully not oversaturate).
If sales are high enough for MVU, the possibility of mid-release ECs, Starters or Giants rises. It would be nice to see some Starter-type stuff for all the comic movies coming out and the cost for doing that sort of product is much lower than full blown booster treatment.
Boo to 6 months without a new set. The gap between Team-Up and Worlds Finest pretty much had me ready to quit if not for a friend dragging me back practically kicking and screaming.
Anticipating new cards and drafting are pretty much what I enjoy most in VS. MVL as a set with 110 rares, has been driving me nuts. I refuse to build decks until I have playsets of the cards I need for them. 110 rares has made singles costs exorbant and drafting to get the rares you want impossible. (We do pick'em draft) If the set gets even bigger its going to make buying boxes even more dumb as well. Unless you are in a large playgroup that all want to play different decks and trade very friendly, you are never going to be able to build decks without paying the overcosted singles prices.
This is a very greed intensive move by UDE plus its also a stopgap. They needed an excuse to slowly cut down production. So even when they clearly had a Civil War set planned, while even talking about the teams, they make up some gimmick which everyone knows will end up with Civil War selected just because it has the best team selection.
One large set means it becomes incredibly hard to get all the cards which means it should hold out longer on shelves, however if you like getting your upteenth playset of a certain common while you only have 1 of a particular rare after opening 3 boxes. Then sure keep buying more packs.
If they end up damaging draft and limited play with this move as well. This will guarantee that I quit just because thats the entire reason I play. I was even very happy with the OP announcement.
Okay, so how about instead of a set where you have double the amount of rares as uncommons, you just have a set that's double the size...as opposed to the 273 card sets we have, we get 330 or 440 card sets...wouldn't that fix the draft problem right there?

This could be true, but I think this would inevitably lead to drafts where there's not much support for any particular draft strategy, in which case you're left with a random pile of jank. This isn't necessarily a terrible thing; those of us at Game Empire have great memories of the Spider-Mobile, after all ;) But I think generally speaking, random piles of jank lead to poor drafts.

Well, it depends on how the people at UDE design the set. I'm not saying a "mega-set" will be poor for draft. Honestly, I'm not smart enough or knowledgeable enough in game design to support such a declaration. I am, however, worried, because MVL is not a good limited set, and Vs has a reputation for being a wonderful game for draft. Our local hobby store drafts twice a month (every other week), and we may be going back to DWF draft because so many people are not happy with MVL draft.
One thing that hasn't been mentioned, or at least I didn't see it discussed, is the idea that the super size will come from the addition of a new rarity. It has been done many times, by many games, including UDE's other properties.
Would the addition of ultra-rares do much to alleviate the issues that so many are discussing? I am not a big drafter, so I ask what problems would this cause?
