Two points:

(a) Saying nothing planned before MEV implies nothing EXCEPT to not expect anything before MEV. Nothing in the statement implies any announcement is coming any time soon.

(b) Doomstat, please change your avatar. That avatar is used by UDE employees, and we don't want anyone to draw any false conclusions.

This implies that there is an announcement coming after the release of Evolution does it not?

For the sake of clarity...

When I last spoke with TBS (less than a week ago) I was told that there was no planned/scheduled announcement at this time.

His earlier statement, oft quoted above, said that there would be no non-MEV announcment prior to MEV's release. That is no assurance that there would be one after.

If I tell you I'm not giving you a present before Christmas, that doesn't mean I'm giving you one at all - it just means that you shouldn't expect anything before Christmas. You shouldn't expect one after either, unless you're Spud or Pablo. I'm totally buying them Bella Sara starters.

Now, that said, if TBS is reading this, an announcement confirming the next set would make a great Christmas present to the community ;)

See I would read his quote as being more similar to "I'm not planning on giving you a present until after Christmas.

But if you have been talking to him and he says no announcement is forthcoming then my interpretation doesn't matter one iota. It does make me kind of depressed though.

I bought a half a case of Evolution but recently I've been hanging on by a thread. If I don't hear something, anything at all in the near future I dunno what I'm gonna do, VS-wise.

As nifty an individual as TBS is, his hands are tied with regard to what he can and can't say. UDE policy, higher-ups, all that sort of jazz. He has to choose his words carefully, so as not to make promises he can't deliver on.

"There will be no announcement before the release of MEV"
is a very different statement to
"There will be an announcement after the release of MEV".

Don't get me wrong, I would dearly like an announcement pertaining to the future of the game - Spud and I have bought over a case between the two of us - but as much as we'd like to read TBS's statement as implying an impending announcement, there's no guarantee there.

Actually they should have said nothing at all.

Bait and switch usually suggests a bargain (the bait) and then a forced upsell (the switch).

TBS's statement didn't do anything other than confirm that there'd be no non-MEV announcements prior to mid-late November. Anything beyond that is our own wishful thinking putting words into his mouth (... keyboard?)

I wish I were smarter so I could read the lines in between the lines like Gday - I thought the same way Canadian Bacon did.

Unless their location falls under the remit of UDE:I, in which case they're swinging in the breeze - as I am, at the moment.

Yeah guys, you should know by now, based on their shipping schedules, six months is considered timely. Check back in June.

To be fair, it is a bit early for any worthwhile announcements. They probably want to run the numbers for this set first.

However, any announcement other than "We are going to make the next set all Deadpool" shall be considered unacceptable.

Bait and switch would be announcing bigger PCs, 50ks and more tournaments all around and then cutting PCs, PCQs and never having a 50k ever. This is just well wait and see.

So the announcement has been made-

While we know this may come as a great disappointment to many of our loyal fans, the VS. System TCG has been discontinued. At this time UDE has no plans to relicense the related properties, and no intentions of releasing additional material for the game. We as a company have been as hard hit as you the consumer by recent economic down turns, and despite our personal desires and best efforts the VS. System TCG has not proven sufficiently profitable to warrant renewal of licensing agreements with the involved parties.

We hope that you can find solace in our other great lines of TCG products such as World of Warcraft and Yugio, which we will continue to support and produce.
